This study was conducted to investigate the effect of forest road on the suspended sediment yield into a stream in the small forest watershed. The samples of suspended sediment yield were collected at surveying points A and B in mountains watersheds unaffected by forest road, and at surveying point C affected by forest road. When hourly change of suspended sediment concentration was investigated, it showed the highest increase along the forest road, and the peak of suspended sediment concentration due to the watershed characteristics of each surveying point occurred before or at the same time with, the peak of discharge. This may be due to the time lag in which stagnated unstable suspended sediment moved strongly upon rainfall. Although suspended sediment load varied depending upon rainfall factors and surveying period, suspended sediment load per unit watershed flowed out 4.1 times more at the point C than at the point A and B. The suspended sediment load on 18~19 September, 1998, strongly affected by rainfall factors, was 4.179g/sec/㏊ at the point C, and 0.343g/sec/㏊ and 0.147g/sec/㏊ at the point A and B, respectively. This load was 12 times higher at the point C than at the point A and 28 times higher than at the point B.
The SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) should be calibrated and validated with observed data to secure accuracy of model prediction. Recently, the SWAT-CUP (Calibration and Uncertainty Program for SWAT) software, which can calibrate SWAT using various algorithms, were developed to help SWAT users calibrate model efficiently. In this study, three algorithms (GLUE: Generalized Likelihood Uncertainty Estimation, PARASOL: Parameter solution, SUFI-2: Sequential Uncertainty Fitting ver. 2) in the SWAT-CUP were applied for the Soyang-gang dam watershed to evaluate these algorithms. Simulated total streamflow and 0~75% percentile streamflow were compared with observed data, respectively. The NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency) and $R^2$ (Coefficient of Determination) values were the same from three algorithms but the P-factor for confidence of calibration ranged from 0.27 to 0.81 . the PARASOL shows the lowest p-factor (0.27), SUFI-2 gives the greatest P-factor (0.81) among these three algorithms. Based on calibration results, the SUFI-2 was found to be suitable for calibration in Soyang-gang dam watershed. Although the NSE and $R^2$ values were satisfactory for total streamflow estimation, the SWAT simulated values for low flow regime were not satisfactory (negative NSE values) in this study. This is because of limitations in semi-distributed SWAT modeling structure, which cannot simulated effects of spatial locations of HRUs (Hydrologic Response Unit) within subwatersheds in SWAT. To solve this problem, a module capable of simulating groundwater/baseflow should be developed and added to the SWAT system. With this enhancement in SWAT/SWAT-CUP, the SWAT estimated streamflow values could be used in determining standard flow rate in TMDLs (Total Maximum Daily Load) application at a watershed.
The hydrologic models, capable of simulating groundwater recharge for long-term period and effects on it of crops management in the agricultural areas, have been used to compute groundwater recharge in the agricultural fields. Among these models, the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) has been widely used because it could interpret hydrologic conditions for the long time considering effects of weather condition, land uses, and soil. However the SWAT model couldn't represent the spatial information of Hydrologic Response Unit (HRU), the SWAT HRU mapping module was developed in 2010. With this capability, it is possible to assume and analyze spatio-temporal groundwater recharge. In this study, groundwater recharge of rate for various crops in the Mandae stream watershed was estimated using SWAT HRU Mapping module, which can simulate spato-temporal recharge rate. As a result of this study, Coefficient of determination ($R^2$) and Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency (NSE) for flow calibration were 0.80 and 0.72, respectively, and monthly groundwater recharge of Mandae watershed in Haean-myeon was 381.24 mm/year. It was 28% of total precipitation in 2009. Groundwater recharge rate was 73.54 mm/month and 73.58 mm/month for July and August 2009, which is approximately 18 times of groundwater recharge rate for December 2009. The groundwater recharges for each month through the year were varying. The groundwater recharge was smaller in the spring and winter seasons, relatively. So, it is necessary to enforce proper management of groundwater recharge during droughty season. Also, the SWAT HRU Mapping module could show the result of groundwater recharge as a GIS map and analyze spatio-temporal groundwater recharge. So, this method, proposed in this study, would be quite useful to make groundwater management plans at agriculture-dominant watershed.

Since the first installation of irrigation Systems in Korea , a large number of small and medium sized reservoirs have been constructed as the main water sources Some 412, 000 ha are at present irrigated from these sources of supply. Many of the reservoirs were designed in accordance with old low standards and have in addition suffered a loss in capacity through sedimentation. At the same time, water demand has increased with the in troduction of high yielding varieties of rice. The combination has resulted in severe water deficits. To study the problem, 16 sample reservoirs have been surveyed and analysed. The results of the study are summarized be low: 1. Average decrease in reservoir capacity from the installation to present-8% 2. Average soil erosion loss (m$^3$/km$^2$/year) is 536 m$^3$/km$^2$/year and average erosion depth of soil is 0. 5mm per year. 3. No relationship, between reservoir capacity per unit of watershed (m$^3$/km$^2$) and soil erosion loss was found. 4. Increases are required in reservoir capacity: 15.8% due to the introduction of HYV's; 16.6% due to the change of system losses from 10%to 25% The conclusion to be drawn from the above results is that existing reservoir capacity should be increased by an average of 32%. The unit storage capacity to be adopted should be 661 mm
Reliable long-term flows by SWAT-K model were applied to the relationship between stream flow and pollutant load derived from 8-day measured data of Ministry of Environment (MOE) in order to obtain continuous loadograph and evaluate accuracy in water quality modeling for the Chungju dam watershed. The measured flow were compared with flow duration curve from the model, and it showed that measured values corresponded to the almost full range of stream flow conditions except at Odae A. And there was significant relationship ($R^2=0.60{\sim}0.97$) between measured flow and water quality load at all unit-watersheds. Applying this relationship to simulated flows, continuous loadograph was obtained and compared with modeled pollutant loads. Although there were some differences during some dry and flood seasons, those were not significant and overall trend showed a good agreement. From the results, we would be able to derive a continuous loadograph based on measured data at total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) unit-watersheds on a national scale, in which stream flow and water quality have been measured at 8-day intervals since 2004, and this could be helpful to utilize distributed water quality models with difficulty in calibrating and validating parameters from lack of measured data at present.
The objective okgf this study is understanding and evaluation of temporal and spatial variation of pollutant loads by input sources for water quality management in Kamak Bay. Flow rate of rivers and ditches ranges from about $2,592-63,072m^3/d$ in October to $864-55,296m^3/d$ in January. In particular, the R2 predominated flow rate among input sources. Total COD, BOD, DIN and DIP loadings in January were about 896kg/d, 718kg/d, 2,152kg/d, and 154kg/d, respectively, which exceeded those of October. Lower POC/TOC levels are estimated in R2, and also in October. Temporal variation of pollutant loads were closely related to the human activity. Total discharging loadings of BOD, TN and TP by unit loading estimation were 4,993.0kg/d, 2,558.7kg/d, and 289.2kg/d, respectively, and were mainly affected by the population. Runoff ratio of BOD was about 0.14 in January Mean $NH_4^+_-N$ and $PO_4\;^{3-}-P$ loadings from sediment were 16.23mg/$m^2$/d and 7.26mg/$m^2$/d, respectively. For the improvement of water quality in this area, not only pollutant loads of rivers and ditches but also benthic flux from sediment should be reduced within the limits of the environmental capacity.
In this study a sediment yield is compared by IUSG, IUSG with Kalman filter, tank model and tank model with Kalman filter separately. The IUSG is the distribution of sediment from an instantaneous burst of rainfall producing one unit of runoff. The IUSG, defined as a product of the sediment concentration distribution (SCD) and the instantaneous unit hydrograph (IUH), is known to depend on the characteristics of the effective rainfall. In the IUSG with Kalman filter, the state vector of the watershed sediment yield system is constituted by the IUSG. The initial values of the state vector are assumed as the average of the IUSG values and the initial sediment yield estimated from the average IUSG. A tank model consisting of three tanks was developed for prediction of sediment yield. The sediment yield of each tank was computed by multiplying the total sediment yield by the sediment yield coefficients; the yield was obtained by the product of the runoff of each tank and the sediment concentration in the tank. A tank model with Kalman filter is developed for prediction of sediment yield. The state vector of the system model represents the parameters of the tank model. The initial values of the state vector were estimated by trial and error.
The stream morphologic characteristics of Wonju stream with small watershed are developed with a regular correlation referred to the Horton-Strahler's lows of stream order. Using Manning's formula and the discharges simulated by NWS-PC rainfallrunoff model that has been applied to the adjacent basin for model calibration and verification, the hydraulic characteristics at Wonju bridge are investigated. The peak discharge and the time to peak of unit hydrograph are analyzed by the calculated geomorphologic parameters. Rather primitive as this study is, these results are provided to be used for geomorphologic instantaneous unit hydropraph of ungaged basins including this study area. Through the reestablishment of rating curve and hydrograph with continuous field observations, the hydrologic and hydraulic characteristics of Wonju stream must be presented.
The characteristics of pollutant loads from the various sources and seawater quality in Kwangyang Bay were evaluated. Total flow rate was estimated to be $10,868,066.8 m^3/day$ with a flow rate of R2l (the Seomjin River) as the highest one. Total COD, TN and TP loads of the input rivers and the ditches were about 27,591.8, 25,029.6 and 586.4 kg/day, respectively. Wastewater discharging loads was the greatest contributors to pollutant loads in the inner part of Kwangyang Bay. COD values in the inner part of the bay was over 3.0 mg/L, which exceeded the seawater quality criteria III of Korea. The average values of DIN and DIP were 8.62 ${\mu}gN/L\;and\;1.26\;{\mu}gP/L$, respectively. The limiting factor for algal growth was DIN. In he total discharging loads of the watershed from unit loading estimations, BOD, TN and TP were 9,132.3, 2,727.2 and 304.2 kg/day, respectively. In addition, municipal sewage by the population as pollution sources and the city of Kwangyang as administrative district had the highest loads. For a appropriate water quality recovery of Kwangyang Bay, it is suggested that it is essential to estimate reduction rate of total pollutant loads by water quality modeling.

To drive efficiently total water pollution load management, needs to calculate the exact load emissions, pollution load allocation and implementation evaluation in each unit area of watershed and accurate and regular flow of data. For these reasons, the Nakdong River TMDL Research Center has produced directly or indirectly in the average interval of eight days (30 times or more / year) 41 points for unit area of the total water pollution load management and 8-point of municipal requirement for a total of 49 branches as a flow data in 2004 from August. This acquired the survey flow is evidence of trends and changes each point in the Nakdong River based on time, such as 10 years based on average design flow available to the foundation of the summit as the major water policy is to be utilized. This study was performed on actual discharge measuring data and introduced performance results each drainage basin of Nakdong River from 2004 to 2008 over the total of past five years.
