  • As the demands of X-Y linear motors increase, it becomes very important to measure flatness errors and to compensate them. In this study, in order to investigate flatness errors, a laser interferometer is used for measurement. To improve the measurement efficiency, a Union Jack method is adopted instead of a square method. The square method is frequently used because of its accuracy, but it requires many measurement points. In this study, the Union Jack method with Grey Theory is used. By using the Grey Theory, unmeasured data are predicted, and these are compared with results of the square method. The results show that the Union Jack method with Grey Theory is accurate enough to replace the square method.

  • In this Paper, we consider multiple input multiple output Feher-patented quadrature phase shift keying (MIMO-FQPSK) system supporting high spectral efficiency and throughput. Based on the fact that the complex baseband signal sampled at every bit duration has only eight phase values and its signal can be considered as 8-phase-shift keying signal, FQPSK demodulation with maximum likelihood sequence estimation(MLSE) is considered and it is extended to MIMO system. The performance of MIMO-FQPSK receiver is analyzed by computer simulation and by considering the union upper bounds for zrero forcing detection and minimum mean square error detection.

  • The aim of this study was to detail characteristics of mammary Paget's disease (PD) representing the whole population in China. A total of 4211 female breast cancer inpatients at seven tertiary hospitals from seven representative geographical regions of China were collected randomly during 1999 to 2008. Data for demography, risk factors, diagnostic imaging test, physical examination and pathologic characters were surveyed and biomarker status was tested by immunohistochemistry. The differences of demography and risk factors between PD with breast cancer and other lesions were compared using Chi-square test or t-test, with attention to physical examination and pathological characters. The percentage of PD was 1.6% (68/4211) in all breast cancers. The mean age at diagnosis was 48.1, and 63.2% (43/68) patients were premenopausal. There is no difference in demography and risk factors between PD with breast cancer and other breast cancer (P > 0.05). The main pattern of PD in physical exam and pathologic pattern were patients presenting with a palpable mass in breast (65/68, 95.6%) and PD with underlying invasive cancer (82.4%, 56/68) respectively. The rate of multifocal disease was 7.4% (5/68). PD with invasive breast cancer showed larger tumor size, more multifocal disease, lower ER and PR expression and higher HER2 overexpression than those in other invasive breast cancer (P < 0.05). These results suggested that PD in China is a concomitant disease of breast cancer, and that PD with underlying invasive cancer has more multiple foci and more aggressive behavior compared with other breast invasive cancer. We address the urgent needs for establishing diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines for mammary PD in China.

  • This study explores the issue of campus expansion of an urban university using an in-depth case study of New York University in New York City, USA. It investigates the physical pattern and development mechanism of the campus expansion process on a city grid structure. The three elements that characterize NYU's recent campus expansion, are (1) the university's commitment to building a student community around a public open space on a subway network, (2) four types of property acquisition and building development practiced by the university with private developers for space leasing, building renovation and development under changing local development circumstances, and (3) the city's initiative for attracting the private sector whose development activities influence the university's development dynamics. These findings suggest that the expansion planning of an urban university, due to its location in a city, should be placed on a local planning agenda, which can positively contribute to public goals through the collaborative engagement of the private and public sectors.

  • This study does try to proceed on the assumption that complex buildings can vitalize urban life of contemporary society from contemporary complexity and cases of past failure. The scope of investigation on complex buildings in Sangju built in 1990s' and 2000s' on this thesis is that site size is 400 square meter, total area 1500 square meter, and the number of stories on the ground below 5 floor. Method of investigation on twenty one buildings which have been built on new C.B.D. between the Namwon avenue and the Joongang 1th street in Sangju is through field investigation, field photographs, recordings and drawings on these buildings. Investigative contents have been divided and analysized into physical and functional elements in urban and architectural dimension. On the basis of these results, the future planning approach of complex buildings in medium and small cities has been considered into planning principles of convenience of building use and efficiency of site size, physical plans reflected on the traffic and pedestrian movings and the face of buildings, pedestrian resting space-creation like plazas and central gardens, regional character reflected with urban context, and separation and union of approached movings interrelated among the components.

  • The largest array SKA (Square Kilometre Array) project was proposed by astronomers from 10 countries, and first coordinated by the LTWG (Large Telescope Working Group) formed at the General Assembly of URSI (International Union of Radio Science) in 1993. It enters the pre-construction phase (2012-2015), towards the 10% SKA construction (2016-2019) called SKA1 and the rest of SKA (2019-2023) called SKA 2, under the leadership of the SKA Organisation (SKAO) established on November 23, 2011. I will review the Chinese participation in the SKA project at national, regional and global levels in the past two decades. During such a Long March to the SKA, a number of national Megascience projects have taken root and have been (are being) successfully constructed, with costs at the 100 M US dollar level, including the largest dish FAST (Five-hundred meter Aperture Spherical Telescope), which can be seen as a forerunner of the KARST (Kilometre Area Radio Synthesis Telescope) project, being as one of the two LDSN (Large Diameter Small Number) concepts for realizing the SKA. A close look at the FAST project gives an impressive snapshot of the construction phase in China.

  • Traffic matrix-based anomaly detection and DDoS attacks detection in networks are research focus in the network security and traffic measurement community. In this paper, firstly, a new type of unidirectional flow called IF flow is proposed. Merits and features of IF flows are analyzed in detail and then two efficient methods are introduced in our DDoS attacks detection and evaluation scheme. The first method uses residual variance ratio to detect DDoS attacks after Recursive Least Square (RLS) filter is applied to predict IF flows. The second method uses generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) statistical test to detect DDoS attacks after a Kalman filter is applied to estimate IF flows. Based on the two complementary methods, an evaluation formula is proposed to assess the seriousness of current DDoS attacks on router ports. Furthermore, the sensitivity of three types of traffic (IF flow, input link and output link) to DDoS attacks is analyzed and compared. Experiments show that IF flow has more power to expose anomaly than the other two types of traffic. Finally, two proposed methods are compared in terms of detection rate, processing speed, etc., and also compared in detail with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) methods. The results demonstrate that adaptive filter methods have higher detection rate, lower false alarm rate and smaller detection lag time.

  • Let G be a finite group and X be a union of conjugacy classes of G. Define C(G,X) to be the graph with vertex set X and $x,y{\in}X$ ($x{\neq}y$) joined by an edge whenever they commute. In the case that X = G, this graph is named commuting graph of G, denoted by ${\Delta}(G)$. The aim of this paper is to study the automorphism group of the commuting graph. It is proved that Aut(${\Delta}(G)$) is abelian if and only if ${\mid}G{\mid}{\leq}2$; ${\mid}Aut({\Delta}(G)){\mid}$ is of prime power if and only if ${\mid}G{\mid}{\leq}2$, and ${\mid}Aut({\Delta}(G)){\mid}$ is square-free if and only if ${\mid}G{\mid}{\leq}3$. Some new graphs that are useful in studying the automorphism group of ${\Delta}(G)$ are presented and their main properties are investigated.

  • Shortest path calculations for a large-scale network have to be performed using a decomposition techniqre, since the calculations require large memory size which increases by the square of the number of vertices in the network. Also, the calculation time increases by the cube of the number of vertices in the network. In the decomposition technique, the network is broken into a number of smaller size subnetworks for each of which shortest paths are computed. A union of the solutions provides the solution of the original network. In all of the decomposition algirithms developed up to now, boundary vertices which divide all the subnetworks have to be included in computing shortest paths for each subnetwork. In this paper, an improved algorithm is developed to reduce the number of boundary vertices to be engaged. In the algorithm, only those boundary vertices that are directly connected to the subnetwork are engaged. The algorithm is suitable for an application to real time computation using a parallel processor system which consists of a number of micro-computers or prcessors. The algorithm has been applied to a 39- vertex network and a 232-vertex network. The results show that it is efficient and has better performance than any other algorithms. A parallel processor system has been built employing an MZ-80 micro-computer and two Z-80 microprocessor kits. The former is used as a master processor and the latter as slave processors. The algorithm is embedded into the system and proven effective for real-time shortest path computations.
