Performance analysis of a call control scheme with buffering and dynamic bandwidth assignment for non-uniform traffic distribution (부하가 일정하지 않은 환경에서 버퍼 사용에 따른 시스템 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, we analyze the call control scheme that is using buffer at new call and handoff call for non-uniform traffic load distribution, the multiple cell environments and the multiple types of services such as voice and data service. Considering the facts, the call admission control method using the effective bandwidth concept is employed in this paper, The bandwidth for a new call and a handoff call is allocated by the number of mobile station and dynamically assigned by taking account of the blocking rate of new calls and the dropping rate of handoff calls. The call control procedure is experimented through a simulation study by dynamically the bandwidth to new and handoff calls based on the blocking rate and the dropping rate. The results show our call control scheme can get a good quality of service for mobile users.

  • To fully utilize the capabilities of a SONET/ADM network, traffic grooming is needed to multiplex a number of lower-rate traffic streams into a higher-rate stream, and vice versa. Although the capacity of a SONET ring network can be upgraded by operating it over multiple wavelengths, the corresponding network design may be costly if it employs a large number of ADMs. A cost-effective design attempts to minimize the total number of ADMs used in the network while carrying the offered traffic. We introduce and evaluate the performance characteristics of a new traffic-grooming approach for WDM ring networks, called multihop. The multihop implementation places an ADM at each node based on the requested traffic in the traffic-demand matrix then, it tries to groom the wavelengths which can be groomed. We select one of the nodes to be the "hub" node which has an ADM for each wavelength. The hub node, therefore, can "bridge" traffic between all of the wavelengths. The algorithm is specified and illustrated by a simple example. Our results demonstrate that it is beneficial to use a single-hop approach, but for a large grooming ratio and node number, we advocate the use of the multihop approach.e multihop approach.

  • Recognizing license plate from its traffic camera captured images is one of the most important aspects in many traffic management systems. Despite many sophisticated license plate recognition related algorithms available online, license plate recognition is still a hot research issue because license plates in each country all round the world lack of uniform format and their camera captured images are often affected by multiple adverse factors, such as low resolution, poor illumination effects, installation problem etc. A novel method is proposed in this paper to solve the inclination problem of license plates in their camera captured images through four parts: Firstly, special edge pixels of license plate are chosen to represent main information of license plates. Secondly, least square methods are used to compute the inclined angle of license plates. Then, coordinate rotation methods are used to rotate the license plate. At last, bilinear interpolation methods are used to improve the performance of license plate rotation. Several experimental results demonstrated that our proposed method can solve the inclination problem about license plate in visual aspect and can improve the recognition rate when used as the image preprocessing method.

An Analysis of the Demands for the Improvement of Versatile Safety Vests for Traffic Police Officers (교통경찰용 다기능안전조끼의 개선을 위한 실태조사)

  • Traffic police officers are faced with many dangerous accidents due to outside duties on roads. Yet, researches on traffic officers' uniforms have mainly been focused on design aspects rather than functional aspects. This study therefore aims to figure out traffic officers' perceived needs for their uniforms and to offer some basic guidelines in manufacturing versatile safety vests for wearers. The study used a documentary survey replied by 236 traffic officers. The results of the study are as follows: 1. There are 10 different types of vests currently used by traffic officers. Vests are employed for purposes such as carrying police equipments, enabling officers to be noticeable in dark, protecting the body, etc. 2. Officers wear these vests which were officially designated by law. Among them, fluorescence versatile safety vests were most frequently worn by officers. 3. Officers who wore ready-made vests of which size was already determined, tended to perceive that the vests were relatively larger than their own size. 4. In terms of the functions of the vests, officers expressed needs for the improvement of the LED and retro-reflection tape along with the addition of thermal function to existing vests. The improvement of the form and functions of versatile safety vests which reflect needs of the users will boost the dignity and the sense of duty of the traffic police officers.

Study on the transient flow induced by the windbreak transition regions in a railway subject to crosswinds

  • Due to the complex terrain around high-speed railways, the windbreaks were established along different landforms, resulting in irregular windbreak transition regions between different subgrade infrastructures (flat ground, cutting, embankment, etc). In this paper, the effect of a windbreak transition on the wind flow around railways subjected to crosswinds was studied. Wind tunnel testing was conducted to study the wind speed change around a windbreak transition on flat ground with a uniform wind speed inflow, and the collected data were used to validate a numerical simulation based on a detached eddy simulation method. The validated numerical method was then used to investigate the effect of the windbreak transition from the flat ground to cutting (the "cutting" is a railway subgrade type formed by digging down from the original ground) for three different wind incidence angles of 90°, 75°, and 105°. The deterioration mechanism of the flow fields and the reasons behind the occurrence of the peak wind velocities were explained in detail. The results showed that for the windbreak transition on flat ground, the impact was small. For the transition from the flat ground to the cutting, the influence was relatively large. The significant increase in the wind speeds was due to the right-angle structure of the windbreak transition, which resulted in sudden changes of the wind velocity as well as the direction. In addition, the height mismatch in the transition region worsened the protective effect of a typical windbreak.

Realistic Determination of Design Loads and Design Criteria for Bridge Structures (교량구조물의 합리적인 설계하중 결정 및 설계기준)

  • Presented is a study on the realistic determination of design loads and design criteria for bridge structures. The current bridge design code does not consider realistically the uncertainties inherent in loads and resistances and thus the level of safety varies greatly among the bridge spans. The resonable bridge design loads and design criteria which exhibit uniform reliability among various bridge spans are therefore derived in the present paper. The proposed design loads are determined from the analysis of numerous data obtained from actual traffic survey and the design criteria are based on the advanced concept of load and resistance factor format. The live load factors take into account resonably the effects of traffic volume increase. The proposed design loads and design criteria show uniform safety level for various bridge spans and reasonably consider the effects of traffic volume increase. The present study provides useful and valuable data for new version of our bridge design code.

  • In this thesis, we analyze the Broadcast and Select Network(BSN) architecture coming up to the issues among those in the single-hip WDM networks and the degradation of performance in consequence of the traffic imbalance which well be able to be produced in these network. We propose WDM networks architecture which can support concurrency services by using Array Wavelength Tunable Filter(AWTF) with the parrallel hardware structure as a solution. For the sake of multichannel communications, we make use of the Single Control channel, Multiple Data channel(SCMD) scheme that is one of the channel architecture. Also, we compare and analize the throughput of Uniform & Nonuniform traffic conditions, and obtain the optimized number of AWTF being able to guarantee the Quality of Service(QoS) required by the enlargement of WDM netowrks and traffic imbalance. Therefore, we can make it possible that the design of the WDM networks with BSN architecture ensures the optimized performance.

  • This paper compares some architectures to achieve the optimized WDM architecture for all optical transport network, the comparison is presented in terms of the number of required wavelength and LT. These architecture types are PPWDM, SHWDM, DHWDM and fully optical WDM. Topology is a static ring network where the routing pattern is fixed and traffic pattern has uniform demand. This paper also proposes an algorithm for the wavelength assignment for a folly optical WDM ring network which has full mesh traffic pattern. The algorithm is based on heuristic algorithm which assigns traffic connections according to their respective shortest path. Traffic described here that is to be passed through can be routed directly within the optical layer instead of having the higher layer to handle it.

On-line Fussy Performance Management of Profibus Networks

  • Most networks for automation are tuned to an expected traffic condition ar their design stage. During their actual operations, however, the networks experience considerable changes in traffic from time to time. These traffic changes caused by common events like machine failure and production schedule change may adversely affect th network performance and, in turn , the performance of the connected devices. This paper presents experimental results for performance management of a Profibus-FMS network. The performance management aims to maintain a uniform level of network performance at all stations under changing network traffic. The performance management algorithm monitors the performance of individual network stations and commands the stations to change their timer values in order to have comparable performance at all stations. In order to determine the amount of timer change, the algorithm employs a set of fuzzy rules. The algorithm has been evaluated on a Profibus network.

  • Recently, 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has developed sidehaul system to cope with the explosively increasing mobile data traffic. The sidehaul system is based on single carrier-frequency division multiple access (SC-FMDA) due to its low peak to average power ratio (PAPR). Also, antenna array is designed to support multiple input multiple output (MIMO) in a restricted space. In this paper, we design the antenna array about uniform linear array (ULA), uniform circular array (UCA) and uniform planar array (UPA), and analysis the performance in sidehaul system. In addition, we propose the novel hybrid receiver full suppression cancellation (FSC) to reduce the interference from neighbor cell in sidehaul system. The proposed receiver can suppress and cancel the interference by combining interference rejection combining (IRC) with successive interference cancellation (SIC).
