The residual stresses in injection-molded plastic parts can be divided into two, i.e., the flow-induced residual stress produced in flowing stage and the thermally-induced residual stress produced in cooling stage. Especially, the main source for the defect in the final parts, such as warpage, is known to be the thermally-induced stresses. For the freely quenched samples the structures of residual stresses and bire-fringence have been investigated by many researchers extensively. However, the boundary condition for free quenching was found to be improper to study actual injection molding process. In the present study a datailed structure of the residual stresses and birefringence produced under constrained quenching has been investigated experimentally. In constrained quenched samples a similar pattern but much less stress values than that for the freely quenched samples has been found in the case of the thickness of 1.0 mm. Howvere, in the case of the thickness of 4.0mm, totally different stress profile has been found experimentally. Suprisingly uniform birefringence throughout whole thickness has been found for all the cases of constrained quenching. Finally, to explain the mechanism to produce the final residual stresses and bire-fringence some preliminary numerical results including free volume theory have been introduced briefly.

Herein, we report meaningful and selective review of the progress made on 'Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV)' and 'Vortex Induced Motion (VIM)' of 'Structures of Specific Shapes (SoSS)' subjected to steady uniform flow and of relevance to/in marine structures. Important and critical elements of the numerical methods, experimental methods, and physical ideas are listed and analysed critically and the limitations of the current state of art of VIV/VIM are discussed in-detail. Our focus and aim are to analyse the existing researches with respect to the application in analyses, design and production of marine structures and the reported reviews centre on these only. We identify the critical and important issues that exist in the current literature and utilise these issues to highlight the challenges that need to be tackled to design and develop new age marine structures that can exist and operate safely in the areas of dominance by the VIV/VIM. Finally, we also identify some areas for future scope of research on VIV/VIM.

Proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) has received extensive attention as it is the most common hydrogen energy utilization device. This research not only investigated the effect of obstacle number and shape on PEMFC performance, but also studied the effect of the blockage degree in the channel of PEMFC on its performance. It was found that compared with traditional scheme, longitudinally distributed obstacles scheme can significantly promote reactants transfer to catalyst layer, and the blockage degree in the channel effect PEMFC performance most. The scheme with 10 rectangular obstacles in single channel and 60% channel blockage had the best output performance and the most uniform distribution of reactants and products. Obstacle height distribution can significantly affect PEMFC performance, the blockage degree in the whole basin was large, particularly as the channel was blocked to higher degree in region 2 and region 3, higher net power density and better mass transfer effect can be obtained. Among them, the fuel cell with the blockage degree of 40%, 60% and 60% in region 1, region 2 and region 3 have the best PEMFC output performance and mass transfer, the net power density was 29.8% higher than that of traditional scheme.
The High Temperature Test Unit (HTTU) was an experimental set-up to conduct separate and integral effects tests of the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) core. The annular core consisted of a randomly packed bed of uniform spheres. Natural convection tests using both nitrogen and helium, and forced convection tests using nitrogen, were conducted. The maximum material temperature achieved during forced convection testing was 1200 ℃. This paper presents the numerical analysis of the flow and temperature distribution for a forced convection test using 3D CFD as well as a 1D systems-CFD computer code. Several modelling approaches are possible, ranging from a fully explicit to a semi-implicit method that relies on correlations of their associated phenomena. For the comparison between codes, the analysis was performed using a porous media approach, where the conduction and radiative heat transfer were lumped together as an effective thermal conductivity and the convective heat transfer was correlated between the solid and gas phases. The results from both codes were validated against the experimental measurements. Favourable results were obtained, in particular by the systems-CFD code with minimal computational and time requirements.

Nano-oxide dispersion-strengthened (ODS) superalloys have attracted attention because of their outstanding mechanical reinforcement mechanism. Dispersed oxides increase the material's strength by preventing grain growth and recrystallization, as well as increasing creep resistance. In this research, atomic layer deposition (ALD) was applied to synthesize an ODS alloy. It is useful to coat conformal thin films even on complex matrix shapes, such as nanorods or powders. We coated an Nb-Si-based superalloy with TiO2 thin film by using rotary-reactor type thermal ALD. TiO2 was grown by controlling the deposition recipe, reactor temperature, N2 flow rate, and rotor speed. We could confirm the formation of uniform TiO2 film on the surface of the superalloy. This process was successfully applied to the synthesis of an ODS alloy, which could be a new field of ALD applications.
This study aimed to recognize characteristics of groundwater flow in fractured bedrocks based on zonal pump-ing tests, slug tests, water quality logs and borehole TV camera logs conducted on two boreholes (NJ-11 and SJ-8) in the city of Naju. Especially, the zonal pumping tests using sin91e Packer were executed to reveal groundwater flow characteristics in the fractured bedrocks with depth. On borehole NJ-11, the zonal pumping tests resulted in a flow dimension of 1.6 with a packer depth of 56.9 meters. It also resulted in lower flow dimensions as moving to shallower packer depths, reaching a flow dimension of 1 at a 24 meter packer depth. This fact indicates that uniform permissive fractures take place in deeper zones at the borehole. On borehole SJ-8, a flow dimension of 1.7 was determined at the deepest packer level (50 m). Next, a dimension of 1.8 was obtained at 32 meters of packer depth, and lastly a dimension of 1.4 at 19 meters of packer depth. The variation of flow dimension with different packer depths is interpreted by the variability of permissive fractures with depth. Zonal pumping tests led to the utilization of the Moench (1984) dual-porosity model because hydraulic characteristics in the test holes were most suitable to the fractured bedrocks. Water quality logs displayed a tendency to increase geothermal temperature, to increase pH and to decrease dissolved oxygen. In addition, there was an increasing tendency towards electrical conductance and a decreasing tendency towards dissolved oxygen at most fracture zones.
In this study, a two-dimensional numerical model (Nays2DH) was applied to analyze the process of morphological changes in the river channel bed depending on the changes in the amount of flooding after fully opening the Sejong weir, which was constructed upstream of the Geum River. For this, numerical simulations were performed by assuming the flow conditions, such as a non-uniform flow (NF), unsteady flows (single flood event, SF), and a continuous flood event (CF). Here, in the cases of the SF and CF, the normalized hydrograph was calculated from real flood events, and then the hydrograph was reconfigured by the peak flow discharge according to the scenario, and then it was employed as the flow discharge at the upstream boundary condition. In this study, to quantitatively evaluate the morphological changes, we analyzed the time changes in the bed deformation the bed relief index (BRI), and we compared the aerial photographs of the study area and the numerical simulation results. As simulation results of the NF, when the steady flow discharge increases, the ratio of lower width to depth decreases and the speed of bar migration increases. The BRI initially increases, but the amount of change decreased with time. In addition, when the steady flow discharge increases, the BRI increased. In the case of SF, the speed of bar migration decreased with the change of the flow discharge. In terms of the morphological response to the peak flood discharge, the time lag also indicated. In other words, in the SF, the change of channel bed indicates a phase lag with respect to the hydraulic condition. In the result of numerical simulation of CF, the speed of bar migration depending on the peak flood discharges decreased exponentially despite the repeated flood occurrences. In addition, as in the result of SF, the phase lag indicated, and the speed of bar migration decreased exponentially. The BRI increased with time changes, but the rate of increase in the BRI was modest despite the continuous peak flooding. Through this study, the morphological changes based on the hydrological characteristics of the river were analyzed numerically, and the methodology suggested that a quantitative prediction for the river bed change according to the flow characteristic can be applied to the field.

In this study, air sampling locations in the stack of the Advanced Fuel Science Building (AFSB) at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) were assessed according to the ANSI/HPS N13.1-1999 specification. The velocity profile, flow angle and $10{\mu}m$ aerosol particle profile at the cross-section as functions of stack height L and stack diameter D (L/D) were assessed according to the sampling location criteria using COMSOL. The criteria for the velocity profile were found to be met at 5 L/D or more for the height, and the criteria for the average flow angle were met at all locations through this assessment. The criteria for the particle profile were met at 5 L/D and 9 L/D. However, the particle profile at the cross-section of each sampling location was found to be non-uniform. In order to establish uniformity of the particle profile, a static mixer and a perimeter ring were modeled, after which the degrees of effectiveness of these components were compared. Modeling using the static mixer indicated that the sampling locations that met the criteria for the particle profile were 5-10 L/D. When modeling using the perimeter ring, the sampling locations that met the criteria for particle profile were 5 L/D and 7-10 L/D. The criteria for the velocity profile and the average flow angle were also met at the sampling locations that met the criteria for the particle profile. The methodologies used in this study can also be applied during assessments of air sampling locations when monitoring stacks at new nuclear facilities as well as existing nuclear facilities.
The experiment was conducted to evaluate a ventilation system, which was devised to encourage farmers to use the enclosed poultry housing system. The study was observed in the National Livestock Research Institute from May 9 to May 30 in 2002. The main results of the experiment are as follows: 1. Although the outside temperature of the enclosed poultry house was 9.6 ${\sim}$ 21.2$^{\circ}C$ with 11.6$^{\circ}C$ variation, the house with an excellent heat insulation was maintained at 32${\sim}$33$^{\circ}C$ in a variation of 2$^{\circ}C$ which is within the range of the optimal temperature for broiler, being aided with two small electric heaters. 2. The average of air flow rates of the upper, middle and low parts of the room in the broiler house were detected at 0.57, 0.22 and 0.04 m/sec, respectively. The air flow in the whole room was distibuted uniformly by a perforated duct. In conclusion, heat and humidity could be controlled without any problem in this enclosed housing system. Especially, air flow in all parts of the room was detected in uniform rates, resulting in the better ventilation performance with air inhalation through the duct and air exhaust through the side walls of the house.

Recently, the ministry of environment banned the use of the existing airless method using the spray in painting industrial facilities. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a pressure-roller attached to existing airless painting systems. The hole design of the SUS piping and drum-bases of pressure-rollers currently developed and sold have not been studied in detail, so their efficiency is questionable. In particular, if sufficient paint is not supplied to both ends of the roller, it is necessary to rework with a brush after painting. Therefore, the holes of the drum base need to be distributed so that the paint can flow to both ends of the roller. In this study, numerical analysis was performed to determine the effects of the hole design in the SUS piping and drum-base on the flow patterns of the paint and to suggest more efficient design measures. The analysis results showed that the uniform placement of the holes in the SUS piping is good for the balanced inflow of the paint. For the drum-base, the paint can flow better into both ends of the roller when the holes are concentrated and machined on both ends of the drum-base.
