Geomechanical analysis of elastic parameters of the solid core of the Earth

  • It follows from the basic principles of mechanics of deformable solids relating to the strength, stability and propagation of elastic waves that the Earth's inner core cannot exist in the form of a spherical structure in the assumed thermobaric conditions and calculation values of physico-mechanical parameters. Pressure level reaches a value that is significantly greater than the theoretical limit of medium strength in the model approximations at the surface of the sphere of the inner core. On the other hand, equilibrium state of the sphere is unstable on the geometric forming at much lower loads under the influence of the "dead" surface loads. In case of the action of "follower" loads, the assumed pressure value on the surface of the sphere is comparable with the value of the critical load of "internal" instability. In these cases, due to the instability of the equilibrium state, propagation of homogeneous deformations becomes uneven in the sphere. Moreover, the elastic waves with actual velocity cannot propagate in such conditions in solid medium. Violation of these fundamental conditions of mechanics required in determining the physical and mechanical properties of the medium should be taken into account in the integrated interpretations of seismic and laboratory (experimental) data. In this case, application of the linear theory of elasticity and elastic waves does not ensure the reliability of results on the structure and composition of the Earth's core despite compliance with the required integral conditions on the mass, moment of inertia and natural oscillations of the Earth.

  • 본 연구에서는 유한요소법과 실험적인 방법으로 이동하중용 받는 불규칙한 노면을 갖는 연속교의 동적거동을 연구하였다. 차량하중은 차축의 스프링효과를 포함하였으며 이로 인해 교량과 차량의 운동방정식은 결합된 미분방정식으로 표현되었고 이를 반복시산법으로 해결하였다. 실험적인 방법에서는 상사율을 고려하여 원형과 모형에서 동일한 동적거동이 나타나도록 모델을 제작하였고 이러한 교량 불규칙조도면, 진입부 단차면, 연속 단차면을 주어 실험하였다. 속도의 분포와 조도면의 양상 및 차량의 진동에 따른 교량의 동적거동을 이론 및 실험적인 방법으로 비교, 분석하였다.

Roughness and micro pit defects on surface of SUS 430 stainless steel strip in cold rolling process

  • Experiment on roughness and micro pit defects of SUS 430 ferrite stainless steel was investigated in laboratory. The relation between roughness and glossiness with reduction in height, roll surface roughness, emulsion parameters was analyzed. The surface morphology of micro pit defects was observed by SEM, and the effects of micro pit defects on rolling reduction, roll surface roughness, emulsion parameters, lubrication oil in deformation zone and work roll diameter were discussed. With the increasing of reduction ratio strip surface roughness Ra(s), Rp(s) and Rv(s) were decreasing along rolling and width direction, the drop value in rolling direction was faster than that in width direction. The roughness and glossiness were obtained under emulsion concentration 3% and 6%, temperature $55^{\circ}C$ and $63^{\circ}C$, roll surface roughness $Ra(r)=0.5{\mu}m$, $Ra(r)=0.7{\mu}m$ and $Ra(r)=1.0{\mu}m$. The glossiness was declined rapidly when the micro defects ratio was above 23%. With the pass number increasing, the micro pit defects were reduced, uneven peak was decreased and gently along rolling direction. The micro pit defects were increased with the roll surface roughness increase. The defects ratio was declined with larger gradient at pass number 1 to 3, but gentle slope at pass number 4 to 5. When work roll diameter was small, bite angle was increasing, lubrication oil in micro pit of deformation zone was decreased, micro defects were decreased, and glossiness value on the surface of strip was increased.

GC250D의 가스분위기 제어질화 공정에서 화합물층의 형성에 따른 표면조도의 변화 (Surface Roughness and Formation of Compound Layer in the Controlled Gaseous Nitriding Process on Cast Iron GC250D)

  • We investigated the changes in microstructure and surface roughness of the compound layer of GC250D gray cast iron, commonly used in brake discs, during gas nitriding. The gas atmosphere of the nitriding process was controlled with a hydrogen partial pressure of 49.5%, and the process was conducted at a nitriding temperature of 520℃ with various process times. As the nitriding process time of the GC250D material increased, both the depth of hardening and the thickness of the compound layer increased, with a maximum surface hardness of approximately 1265 HV0.1 was measured. Additionally, the surface roughness increased with the process time. Phase analysis of the compound layer revealed an increase in the proportion of the γ' phase as the nitriding process time increased. Changes in the formation of the compound layer were observed depending on the orientation of graphite within the material, leading to the formation of wedges. Therefore, the increase in surface roughness appears to be attributed to the uneven compounds, the expansion of the compound layer and wedges formed on the surface during the nitriding process.

하우스증 예방을 위한 비닐하우스내 작업환경 개선에 관한 연구 (Study on Improvement of Working Environment in Plastic House to Prevent Plastic House Syndrome)

  • This study was conducted to provide a counterplan for preventing so celled “plastic house syndrome” revealed among farmers spending much time in the plastic houses. For this, working environment inside a plastic house was observed. Then, experiments were carried out mostly in a climatic chamber with three kinds of working posture on uneven($D_1-F_1$) or even($D_2-F_2$) ground surface. Tested work loads with three kinds of working posture were : moving in a sitting posture with attaching breast to legs and waving arms ($A_1$), moving in a bending posture with waving arms ($B_1$), and moving a 6kg weighting luggage in a standing posture ($C_1$) Physiological responses in the workers to three different work loads were observed in a climatic chamber, with or without using some instruments, to evaluate work efficiencies. The results obtained are summerized as follows. 1. $C_1$ was the hardest work and $B_1$ was harder than $A_1$ on the even ground. 2. Worker's physiological fatigue and physical loads remarkably decreased when using the instruments such as a chair and a cart with some rollers on the even ground. 3. Working with pushing a cart($F_1$) was the hardest work, and standing($D_1$) was harder than walking($E_1$) on the uneven ground. 4. Worker's physiological fatigues and physical loads remarkably decreased on the even ground. 5. Similar results were obtained when the same experiment was carried out in a plastic house.

결합 가능한 복합 바퀴-다리 이동형 로봇에 관한 연구 (A Study on Hybrid Wheeled and Legged Mobile Robot with Docking Mechanism)

  • 로봇의 이동성 향상을 위해 다양한 환경에 적응할 수 있는 로봇의 연구 개발이 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 휠(wheel)과 다리(Leg)기반 변형이 가능하고, 로봇간 상호 결합이 가능한 복합 이동형 로봇을 제안하였다. 복합 이동형 로봇은 로봇간 결합을 위해 페그 모듈과 컵 모듈을 로봇의 전면과 후면에 각각 장착하고, 주행과 보행이 가능하도록 구현하였다. 다양한 지형에서 이동성을 향상을 위해 임베디드 영상기반 결합 및 분리 알고리즘을 제안하였으며, 로봇간 결합을 통해 끊어진 도로와 비평탄 지형에서의 결합 이동 방법을 제안하였다. 제안한 방법은 로봇의 전면과 밑면에 장착된 PSD 센서를 이용하여 지형을 인식하고, 지형에 맞은 극복 알고리즘을 통해 로봇간 협력을 통해 이동성을 향상시킨다. 제안한 방법들은 임베디드시스템 기반의 복합 주행 이동형 로봇을 실제 제작하여 실험 통해 성능을 검증하였다.

달 표면온도 예측을 위한 집중계 해석방법과 하부 열유속 모델의 적용 (Lumped System Analysis on the Lunar Surface Temperature Using the Bottom Conductive Heat Flux Model)

  • 달 표면 전체에 걸쳐 열물성치를 확보하는 대신 단위 면적당 열질량을 이용하여 달 표면온도를 정확히 예측할 수 있는 개선된 집중계(Lumped System Model, LSM) 해석방법을 제시하였다. 최근에 발표된 연구에 기초하여 표토층 최상단의 단위 면적당 열 질량이 균일하다고 가정하고, 하부면 전도열유속 방정식을 이론적인 근거 하에 도입함으로써 DLRE 측정온도와 상당한 정도 잘 일치하는 달 표면의 온도지도를 구하였다. LSM 온도예측은 태양복사가 약한 황혼, 새벽 및 고위도 지역을 제외하면 DLRE 측정과 잘 일치하며, 이러한 지역에서의 온도 불일치는 하부 전도열유속 모델의 한계에 기인한다. 표면 지형과 열물성치가 매우 불균일한 지역에서 나타나는 비정상온도 영역을 제외하고 LSM 분석으로 생성된 달 표면 온도지도는 DLRE 측정 결과와 유사하다.

  • A coupled thermal-mechanical analysis has been presented for the thermal distortions of the ventilated disk brakes during IS braking operations. The FEM results show that the bendings and distortions of the disk toward the left side are decreased, but the sinusoidal distortion of the disk rubbing surface along the arc length of the vent hole is highly increased by increasing the convective air cooling effects, which is heavily related to the squeal, wear and micro-thermal crackings at the rubbing surfaces due to uneven dissipation rates of friction heatings.

Unified Strategy for Quadruped Walking Robot in Unstructured Environment

  • An unstructured environment requires a robot to possess outstanding mobility and advanced control algorithms since there exist complicated configurations such as obstacle, uneven surface, etc. Especially, when a quadruped robot walks in these environments, obstacles in the walking route will obstruct the walking or may give rise to a serious trouble. In this paper, we introduce a strategy for the stable walking in unstructured environment. The proposed strategy consists of two control algorithms. One is a collision{free algorithm to avoid obstacles and the other is an algorithm to overcome any obstacle. These are based on the obstacle detection method and a shape reconstruction algorithm, Which algorithms are described in detail. In addition, the validity of these algorithms have been demonstrated through experiments using a quadruped walking robot called "MRWALLSPECT III(Multifunctional Robot for Wall inSPECTion version 3 )".

  • n general, the function of intake structure, whether it be a open channel, a fully wetted tunnel, a sump or a tank, is to supply an evenly distributed flow to a pump station. An even distribution of flow, characterized by strong local flow, can result in formation of surface or submerged vortices, and with certain low values of submergence, may introduce air into pump, causing a reduction of capacity and efficiency, an increase in vibration and additional noise. Uneven flow distribution can also increase or decrease the power consumption with a change in total developed head. To avoid these sump problems pump station designers are considered intake structure dimensions, such as approaching upstream, baffle size, sump width, width of pump cell and so on. From this background, flow characteristics of intake within sump are investigated numerically to obtain the optimal sump design data. The sump model is designed in accordance with HI code.
