Purpose : This study attempted to relate the incidence of fractures at the mandibular angle with the presence and state of eruption of lower third molars, and to find out the real risk factors for angle fractures in the states of lower third molars. Materials and Methods : Medical records and radiographs of 395 patients with mandibular fractures were retrospectively reviewed. The presence and states of third molars were assessed for each patients and related to the occurrence of angle and other mandibular fractures. Results : Of 395 patients with mandibular fractures, 142 had angle fractures. The incidence of angle fractures was found to be significantly greater when partial erupted lower third molars were present and it had a definite role for risk factors for angle fractures. But there were no clear relationship between the incidence of angle fracrtures and states of without, fully erupted lower third molars. Furthermore, the states of patial and unerupted lower third molar had an effect on bony segment displacement. Conclusions : This study provides clinical evidence to suggest that patial erupted third molar teeth weaken the mandibular angle both quantitatively and qualitatively.
Multiple jaw cysts are one of the most constant features of the basal cell nevus syndrome. Basal cell nevus syndrome is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait with variable expressiveness. This syndrome comprises a number of abnormalities such as multiple nevoid basal cell carcinomas of the skin, skeletal abnormalities as bifid rib and fusion of vertebrae, central nervous system abnormalities as mental retardation, eye abnormalities with multiple jaw cysts. The odontogenic keratocysts in patients with this syndrome are often associated with the crowns of unerupted teeth and huge size; on radiographs they may mimic dentigerous cysts. The most important feature of the cyst is its extraordinary recurrence rate. Since recurrence may be long delayed in this lesion, follow-up of any case of odontogenic keratocyst with roentgenograms and clinical examination of basal cell carcinoma are essential for at least five years after surgery. We report the result of 7-year follow up after cyst enucleation associated with basal cell nevus syndrome with the literature of review.
An odontoma is a slow growing and nonaggressive odontogenic tumor composed of enamel, dentin, cementum, and pulp tissue. The etiology of odontomas is unknown, although local trauma, infection, and genetic factors have been suggested. Odontomas are classified as compound odontoma or complex. A 20-year retrospective study was performed on 36 odontomas from the files of the Department of Oral Pathology at Chosun University School of Dentistry. Fifty-six percent of the patients were compound odontoma and 44% were complex odontoma. 56 percent of the patients were female and 44% were male. The odontoma is most often diagnosed in the second decade of life, during routine radiographic examination. The usual presenting symptoms are an impacted or and unerupted tooth, a retained primary tooth. Other less frequent signs and symptoms are pain, swelling, suppuration, foul odor, tooth mobility. In our patients were treated by enucleation of the tumor, and related teeth were treated by surgical extraction or orthodontically assisted eruption.

Dentigerous cysts are the most common type of developmental odontogenic cysts. They form as a result of a separation of the follicle from around the crown of an unerupted tooth. Usually this lesion can be asymptomatic. Such cysts are often discovered accidently on inspection of x-rays. In other advanced cases, cortical bone expansion, displacement of teeth, secondary infection can be observed. The treatment of dentigerous cyst is enucleation. And according to size, location of lesion and environmental structure marsupialization can be considered. However, Marsupialization takes long treatment time and, cystic tissues are remained so secondary surgery may be needed for total removal., Risks of oroantral fistula, damage on maxillary sinus wall and infraorbital nerve can be considered as complications of conventional surgical treatment of cysts located in maxillary sinus. We treated third molar origin dentogerous cyst located in maxillary sinus removing endoscopically both the tooth and an associated dentigerous cyst. We report our clinical experience with literature review.

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) is a rare, benign odontogenic tumor that predominantly appears in the second decade of life in female patients. Most AOTs occur in the anterior part of the maxilla and are usually associated with impacted anterior teeth. There are three types of AOT, follicular, extrafollicular, and peripheral, which are classified based on the location of the lesion and its association with the impacted tooth. We report a rare case of AOT associated with an impacted right mandibular lateral incisor in an 11-year-old female patient.

Regional odontodysplasia is a relatively rare condition in which both enamel and dentin are hypoplastic and hypocalcified. The result is localized arrest in tooth development. The etiology of regional odontodysplasia is uncertain, but, disturbance in vascular supply, somatic mutation, latent virus infection, trauma, hyperpyrexia, irradiation, nutrition, metabolic disorders and hereditary transmission are supported to be etiologic factors. Females are more often affected than males. (1.4 : 1). The maxillary arch is more often affected than the mandibular arch with the maxillary left quadrant being the most commonly involved. Affected teeth are hypoplastic, typically discolored yellow or yellowish brown, smaller in size and display a variety of surface marking including pitting and grooving. Radiographically, the teeth affected have been described to have a "ghost like" appearance or "fuzzy" appearance. Pulp calcification and denticles may be present within the pulp chambers of the affected teeth. In it's case, a 2 years old male visited for a treatment of uneruption of lower right teeth. Partial eruption of lower right deciduous central incisor and unerupted deciduous lateral incisor, deciduous canine and deciduous first molar showed severly delayed eruption state. On radiographic appearance, "Ghost like appearance", shortened root and opened apexes on lower right region were observed. It was suspected regional odontodysplasia with clinical and radiographic condition.
The primary objective of this study was to make the prediction percentile tabulation of the sum of mesiodistal widths of the unerupted permanent canines and premolars derived from the sum of mesiodistal widths of the erupted permanent incisors in normal and crowding groups. Crowding group consisted of 85 pairs of dental casts (42 males and 43 females) with more than 4mm of crowding in anteriors. Normal group consisted of 109 pairs of dental casts (65 males and 44 females) with less than 1mm of spacing or crowding in anteriors. The mesiodistal crown diameters of permanent teeth were measured from the dental casts using the sliding calipers (Mitutoyo Co., Japan). From the study, the obtained results were as follows: There were not significant differences between male and female in both groups on the basis of the ratios between the sum of mesiodistal widths of incisors and the sum of mesiodistal widths of canines and premolars. There was not significant difference between two groups on the basis of the ratio between the sum of mesiodistal widths of mandibular incisors and the sum of mesiodistal widths of mandibular canines and premolars and was significant differences between two groups on the basis of the ratio between the sum of mesiodistal widths of mandibular incisors and the sum of mesiodistal widths of maxillary canines and premolars. There was significant difference between two groups on the basis of the ratio between the sum of mesiodistal widths of maxillary incisors and the sum of mesiodistal widths of mandibular canines and premolars. There was significant difference between two groups on the basis of the ratio between the sum of mesiodistal widths of maxillary incisors and the sum of mesiodistal widths of maxillary canines and premolars. The percentile prediction tabulations were made in an attempt to predict the sum of mesiodistal widths of the unerupted permanent canines and premolars derived from the sum of mesiodistal widths of the erupted permanent mandibular incisors in each group. Maxillary canine impaction is a frequently encountered clinical problem, and it may cause the resorption of adjacent tooth or cystic change. Treatment plan for maxillary canine impaction should be decided among extraction, orthodontic traction and autotransplantation according to several factors such as direction and position of unerupted tooth, degree of developing root apex, eruption space, exsitance of supernumerary tooth, odontoma, or cyst. Autotransplantation is a valuable alternative to extraction of impacted teeth, where surgical exposure and subsequent orthodontic realignment are difficult or impossible due to unfavorable impaction position. And its prognosis is dependent on a number of factors such as preservation of periodontal ligament, degree of root development, surgical technique, patient's age, endodontic treatment, time and type of splinting and storage medium, etc. The patients in these cases visited our dental clinic in the late permanent dentition with the chief complaint of unerupted maxillary canines. And it was thought that the spontaneous eruption guidance or orthodontic traction and alignment were difficult because of its unfavorable impacted position. Therefore, autotransplantaion and endodontic treatment were done and have been checked periodically until now.

Tooth impaction is a frequently observed eruption anomaly in pediatric dental practice. Young patients with impacted or unerupted teeth have more prediction for dentigerous cyst formation. Dentigerous cyst presents radiographic features, unilocular or multilocular radioluscency. Cysts occur most frequently in the premolar region except third molar. Dentigerous cysts can grow to a considerable size, and large cysts may be associated with a painless expansion of the bone in the involved area. Extensive lesions may result in facial asymmetry, osseous destruction, root resorption of proximal teeth and displacement of associated tooth. The nature of the causative tooth influences the type of surgical treatment required for the dentigerous cyst. If the cyst is associated with a supernumerary or wisdom tooth, complete enucleation of the cyst along with extraction of tooth may be the first treatment choice. Otherwise, preservation of the associated teeth should be considered to prevent a young patient from psychological and mental trauma because of the loss of tooth. We should consider the degree of tooth displacement, osseous destruction and growth pattern of oromaxillofacial area when planning treatment. Thus a proper and logical treatment planning can help a proper growth and development of oromaxillofacial area and can save the patient from a psychological and mental trauma. This report describes 4 cases of the management of impacted premolars and molars associated with dentigerous cysts in children.
Statement of problems: The concept of CR has also changed continuously.?In order to find out the factors that affect the centric slide, studies were carried out to compare the forms of wisdom teeth eruption, lateral movement, premature contact in CR, and anterior movement. Research and statistical methods were based on the report by the 1980 Korean dental association. Material and method: In our study, 403 dentists in their twenties and dentistry students who could understand CR and CO (and who did not receive occlusal, orthodontic treatment, without extreme caries and large prosthodontic care) were compared with the 25 year old results. A segment of line parallel to the upper incisor was marked on the lower incisor. When seen laterally, a line perpendicular to the occlusal plane was drawn on the foremost area of the upper incisor. This line was extended to the lower incisor and the two points (points at the lower and upper incisors) were used as reference points for the CO. After guiding the occlusion to the CR, two lines were marked by using the same method that was used for the CO. The point in which these lines meet became the reference point of CR occlusion Results and conclusions: Results of the experiment completed in 1980 show that all 307 research members had anterior-posterior and upper-lower displacement. Displacement measurements were $0.7{\pm}0.4mm$ for the anterior-posterior displacement, $0.99{\pm}0.50mm$ for the upper-lower displacement,0.18{\pm}0.31 mm for the lateral displacement, and $1.32{\pm}0.67mm$ for the total displacement. Results of the 2006 experiment show that all 409 research members had anterior-posterior and upper-lower displacement. The anterior-posterior displacement was $1.12{\pm}0.86mm$, the upper-lower displacement was $1.02{\pm}0.71mm$, the lateral displacement was $0.61{\pm}0.56mm$, and the total displacement was $1.80{\pm}0.99mm$. No specific differences were found between each group when comparing displacement according to the forms of wisdom teeth eruption. Since 1980, the percentage of unerupted teeth has increased from 35.16% (111/307 people) to 57.5% (236/409 people). Westernization of the Korean cranial form and intraoral structure has brought about these results. In our experiment, 26.7% (109/409 people) of the subjects were cuspid guided, while 7.3% (30/409 people) were mutually guided. No specific differences were found in the amount of displacement between the two groups. Only the subjects with anteriors coming in contact made up the largest percentage group (42.3%, 173/409 people) in our study. No specific differences were found between each group.
