  • In this paper, the designed fish robot is researched and developed for aquarium underwater robot. This paper is a study on how the outside technology merely to find the location of fish robots without specific sensor or internal devices for these fish robot. The model of the fish is designed to detect the position of the optical flow of the Robotic Fish in the Simulink through Matlab. This paper intends to recognize the shape of the tank via a video device such as a camera or camcorder using an image processing technique to identify the location of the robotic fish. Here, we are applied to the image comparing algorithm by using the average color weight algorithm method. In this, position coordinate system is used to find the position coordinates of the fish to identify the position of the Robotic fish. It was verified by the performance test of design robot.

  • Accurate measurement of seafloor topography plays a crucial role in developing marine industries such as maritime safety, resource exploration, environmental protection, and coastal management. The seafloor topography is constructed using side scan sonar (SSS) and single beam echosounder (SBES) or multibeam echosounder (MBES), which transmit and receive ultrasound waves through a device attached to a marine survey vessel. However, the use of a sonar system is affected by noise pollution areas, and the single beam has a limited scope of application. At the same time, the multibeam is mainly applicable for depth observation. For these reasons, it is difficult to determine the boundaries and areas of seafloor topography. Therefore, this study proposes a method to improve the backscatter data of multibeam echosounder, which has a relationship with the seafloor quality, by using digital image processing to classify the shape of the underwater surface.

An analysis of anchor stones on the west and south coasts (서·남해안 출수 닻돌 분석)

  • In this paper classifies the types of 228 anchor stones discharged from the west and south coasts, assumes a combined method by type, routes through discharge locations, and It attempted to estimate the burial site. To this end, routes estimated based on the testimony of local residents and modern ship workers were analyzed as to whether ships traveled there in the past and whether they could actually sail. Next, the location of each seedling was estimated by ship size according to the weight of the anchor stone. In the case of the Taean Mado Sea and Jindo Byeokpajin Sea, both small and large anchor stones were discharged from the coastline and were far away.

Evaluation of Robustness of Deep Learning-Based Object Detection Models for Invertebrate Grazers Detection and Monitoring (조식동물 탐지 및 모니터링을 위한 딥러닝 기반 객체 탐지 모델의 강인성 평가)

  • The degradation of coastal ecosystems and fishery environments is accelerating due to the recent phenomenon of invertebrate grazers. To effectively monitor and implement preventive measures for this phenomenon, the adoption of remote sensing-based monitoring technology for extensive maritime areas is imperative. In this study, we compared and analyzed the robustness of deep learning-based object detection modelsfor detecting and monitoring invertebrate grazersfrom underwater videos. We constructed an image dataset targeting seven representative species of invertebrate grazers in the coastal waters of South Korea and trained deep learning-based object detection models, You Only Look Once (YOLO)v7 and YOLOv8, using this dataset. We evaluated the detection performance and speed of a total of six YOLO models (YOLOv7, YOLOv7x, YOLOv8s, YOLOv8m, YOLOv8l, YOLOv8x) and conducted robustness evaluations considering various image distortions that may occur during underwater filming. The evaluation results showed that the YOLOv8 models demonstrated higher detection speed (approximately 71 to 141 FPS [frame per second]) compared to the number of parameters. In terms of detection performance, the YOLOv8 models (mean average precision [mAP] 0.848 to 0.882) exhibited better performance than the YOLOv7 models (mAP 0.847 to 0.850). Regarding model robustness, it was observed that the YOLOv7 models were more robust to shape distortions, while the YOLOv8 models were relatively more robust to color distortions. Therefore, considering that shape distortions occur less frequently in underwater video recordings while color distortions are more frequent in coastal areas, it can be concluded that utilizing YOLOv8 models is a valid choice for invertebrate grazer detection and monitoring in coastal waters.

  • Increasing the detection probability of underwater targets necessitates securing the towing stability of the active towed SONAR. In this paper, to confirm the effects of tail wing fin on towing attitude and towing stability, two scale model experiments and one sea trials were conducted and the results were analyzed. The scale model tests measured the towing behavior of each of the tail fin shapes according to towing speed in a towing tank. The shape of the tail fin used in the scale model test was tested with an I-type tail fine and four Y-type tail fins, totaling five tail fins of the two kinds. The first scale model test confirmed that the Y-type tail fin was superior to the I-type tail fin in towing attitude and towing stability. The second scale model test confirmed the characteristics of the vertical tail fin height increase and the lower horizontal tail fin inclination angle application shape based on the Y-type tail fin. The shape of the application of the lower horizontal tail fin inclination angle showed the best performance. In order to verify the results of the scale model test, a full size model was constructed, sea trials were performed, and the towing attitude was measured. The results were similar to those of the scale model test.

  • Although blast furnace slag has been widely used in concrete as a cementitious admixture or aggregate for many years, the slowly cooled steel slag is not used in concrete but mainly in road. Its use in concrete operates problem such as the lack of volume stability due to high free CaO content, which can be potentially hazardous in concrete. However, the rapidly cooled steel slag by atomization has a low free CaO content, a high density, and a spherical shape, so it is expected to use in concrete so much. This paper is to understand the probability that the rapid cooled steel slag can replace the silica sand used as aggregate in the epoxy mortar. We did the experimental study on the properties of the epoxy mortar having various replacement proportion of rapidly cooled steel slag. This study shown that increasing content of the rapidly cooled steel slag in epoxy mortar lead to increase largely the passing time of nozzle by O-lot, compressive strength and flexural strength. However except the flow is almost same level. So we understand that the rapidly cooled steel slag has positive effect on increasing of properties in epoxy mortar.

  • The underwater acoustic lens system is one of the systems getting high-resolution images on the seafloor by the beam forming method using acoustic lens. The beam forming using acoustic lenses reduces complexity and driving power. When receiving an incoming beam with the acoustic lens array, beam pattern analysis and arrangement problem of the array sensor must be addressed. Introducing SIR (Signal to Interference Ratio), the relationship among sensor interval, beam pattern and image quality would be analyzed. Generally if the sensor interval getting wider, the less effect of the side lobes makes SIR high. If the amplitude of a side lobe is high, SIR is generally getting low. The type of the apodization function changes the width, shape and amplitude of both main lobe and side lobes. Thus an appropriate apodization function can improve SIR. In this paper, SIR is stable at the sensor interval of 13mm with 0-10dB, which is not high relatively. By applying the Chebyshev function, the SIR becomes 80dB over the sensor interval of 37 mm or higher. The Hann and triangular functions demonstrate better SIR when the sensor interval becomes narrower.

Improving of the Fishing Gear and Development of the Automatic Operation System in the Anchovy Boat Seine-I -Underwater Geometry of the Model Net- (기선권현망어업의 어구 개량과 자동화 조업시스템 개발-I -시험어구의 수중형상-)

  • A model experiment on the anchovy boat seine was carried out in the southern sea of korea to analyze the vertical opening and the underwater geometry. The model net A was made of half size in the length and width of the prototype net. The model net B was attached floats and chain to the model net-A. The vertical opening and the underwater geometry of the model net were determined by distance of Minilog position with the combinations of the distance between paired boats and the towing speed. The results obtained can be summarized as follows; 1. Vertical opening of the model net was gradually lowered according to the increase of the distance between paired beats and the towing speed. 2. Vertical opening of Wing net, In side wing net, Square, Fore bag net, Flapper and After bag net of the model net A according to the distance between paired boats were varied in the range of 10.8~9.0, 12.0~8.3, 12.6~9.0, 10.4~6.6, 4.6~5.2, 8.8~7.7m respectively, varied in the range of 36~30, 21~15, 31~22, 80~51, 80~96, 59~51% of the normal opening respectively 3. Vertical opening of Wing net, In side wing net, Square, Fore bag net, Flapper and After bag net of the model net B according to the distance between paired boats were varied in the range of 9.1~8.5, 9.8~6.5, 11.2~8.0, 11.0~8.1, 4.7~5.0, 7.0~7.5m respectively, varied in the range of 30~28, 18~12, 27~20, 85~62, 87~93, 47~50% of the normal opening respectively 4. Vertical opening of each a part of the model net according to the towing speed was as same as the former. 5. Model net was appeared apparent the pocket shape, because Wing net and Inside wing net was opened 30% of the normal opening. 6. The bosom and the bag net of the model net A were risen up to the upper lazer, this phenomenon was more apparent as the distance between paired boats and the towing speed increase, but the model net B was almost constant. 7. Development of near field Acoustic Target Strength equations for polygonal plates and applications to underwater vehicles (근접장에서 다각 평판에 대한 표적강도 이론식 개발 및 수중함의 근거리 표적강도 해석)

  • Acoustic Target Strength (TS) is a major parameter of the active sonar equation, which indicates the ratio of the radiated intensity from the source to the re-radiated intensity by a target. In developing a TS equation, it is assumed that the radiated pressure is known and the re-radiated intensity is unknown. This research provides a TS equation for polygonal plates, which is applicable to near field acoustics. In this research, Helmholtz-Kirchhoff formula is used as the primary equation for solving the re-radiated pressure field; the primary equation contains a surface (double) integral representation. The double integral representation can be reduced to a closed form, which involves only a line (single) integral representation of the boundary of the surface area by applying Stoke's theorem. Use of such line integral representations can reduce the cost of numerical calculation. Also Kirchhoff approximation is used to solve the surface values such as pressure and particle velocity. Finally, a generalized definition of Sonar Cross Section (SCS) that is applicable to near field is suggested. The TS equation for polygonal plates in near field is developed using the three prescribed statements; the redection to line integral representation, Kirchhoff approximation and a generalized definition of SCS. The equation developed in this research is applicable to near field, and therefore, no approximations are allowed except the Kirchhoff approximation. However, examinations with various types of models for reliability show that the equation has good performance in its applications. To analyze a general shape of model, a submarine type model was selected and successfully analyzed.

Stream Eco-corridor Restoration by Out-aged Small Dam Removal - Focused on Gokreung River Gokreung 2 Small Dam Removal - (기능을 상실한 보 철거를 통한 하천생태통로 복원 - 곡릉천 곡릉2보 철거를 대상으로 -)

  • Small and large dams are installed in the course of a stream for maintaining the water level of the stream or obtaining agricultural water. Currently about 18,000 of them are installed in Korea to supply water. However, the environmental problems of small dams are well known : the interruption of stream eco-corridors, deterioration of water quality in the upper reaches of the small dam, changes in the habitats of riparian organisms, damages to the stream scenery. In a very few of these small dams artificial eco-corridors like fishways are installed, but the number is very minimal.Accordingly, to efficiently restore stream eco-corridors by removing these small dams, it will be necessary to closely examine physical impacts, such as changes in the riverbed and changes in the shape of the stream caused by the removal, chemical impacts, such as changes in water quality, and transport and accumulation of contaminated sediments and biological impacts, such as changes in the habitats of organisms, and develop related technologies in advance, and have these technologies verified through demonstration application in the sites. In this study, we analyzed the physical, chemical and ecological impacts of the removal of the above-mentioned small dams, and conducted a research on the demonstration small dam removal project for a spot investigation. As a result, the small dam removal will restore the eco-corridor, there by improving the habitat of fishes and crustaceans. The number of major underwater organisms inhabiting the Gokreungcheon, such as Korean spotted sleepers, Chinese minnows, Microphysogobio yaluensis, Abbottina rivularis, stone morokos, striped shinners, long-nosed barbels, and Chinese mitten crabs, is expected to increase, and the food chain in the ecosystem will improve so that species diversity will improve as well.
