The purpose of this paper is to design a DVL-RPM based VKF (Velocity Kalman Filter) design for a performance improvement underwater integrated navigation system. The proposed approach relies on a VKF, augmented by a altitude from Echo-sounder based switching architecture to yield robust performance, even when DVL (Doppler Velocity Log) exceeds the measurement range and the measured value is unable to be valid. The proposed approach relies on two parts: 1) Indirect feedback navigation Kalman filter design, 2) VKF design. To evaluate proposed method, we compare the results of the VKF aided navigation system with simulation result from a PINS (Pure Inertial Navigation System) and conventional INS-DVL method. Simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the underwater navigation system assisted by the additional DVL-RPM based VKF in underwater environment.

This paper addresses a feedback linearization control problem for the nonlinear dynamics of an underwater glider system. We consider the buoyancy and moment as control inputs, which come from the mass variation and elevator control, respectively. Moment-to-force coupling increases the nonlinearities, which make the controller design difficult. By using a feedback linearization technique, we convert the nonlinear underwater glider to an equivalent linear model and design a linear controller. The controller for the equivalent converted linear system is designed using sufficient conditions in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Then, the control input of the nonlinear model of an underwater glider is formulated from the linear control input. An experimental examination is implemented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

As underwater robotic vehicles (URVs) become attractive for more sophisticated underwater tasks, the demand of high performance in terms of accuracy and dexterity has been increased. An autonomous underwater robotic vehicle, ODIN (Omni-Directional Intelligent Navigator) was designed and built at the Autonomous Systems Laboratory of the University of Hawaii in 1991. Since 1991, various studies were conducted on ODIN and have contributed to the advancement in underwater robotics. Its refurbished model ODIN II was based on VxWorks in VMEbus. Recently, ODIN was born again as a PC based system, ODIN III with unique features such as new vehicle system software architecture with an objective-oriented concept, a graphical user interface, and an independent and modular structure using a Dynamic Linking Library (DLL) based on the Windows operating system. ODIN III software architecture offers an ideal environment where various studies for advanced URV technology can be conducted. This paper describes software architecture of ODIN III and presents initial experimental results of fine motion control on ODIN III.

The Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO), the ocean engineering branch of KORDI, has designed and manufactured a model of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) to test underwater docking. This paper introduces the AUV model, ASUM, equipped with a visual servo control system to dock into an underwater station with a camera and motion sensors. To make a visual servoing AUV, this paper implemented the visual servo control system designed with an augmented state equation, which was composed of the optical flow model of a camera and the equation of the AUV's motion. The system design and the hardware configuration of ASUM are presented in this paper. A small long baseline acoustic positioning system was developed to monitor and record the AUV's position for the experiment in the Ocean Engineering Basin of KRISO, KORDI. ASUM recognizes the target position by processing the captured image for the lights, which are installed around the end of the cone-type entrance of the duct. Unfortunately, experiments are not yet conducted when we write this article. The authors will present the results for the docking test of the AUV in near future.

This paper presents a state feedback based backstepping control algorithm to address the trajectory tracking problem of an underactuated Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) in the horizontal plane. A nonlinear three Degree of Freedom (DOF) underactuated dynamic model for USV is considered, and trajectory tracking controller that can track both curve trajectory and straight line trajectory with high accuracy is designed as the well known Persistent Exciting (PE) conditions of yaw velocity is completely relaxed in our study. The proposed controller has further been enriched by incorporating an integral action additionally for enhancing the steady state performance and control precision of the USV trajectory tracking control system. Global stability of the overall system is proved by Lyapunov theory and Barbalat's Lemma, and then simulation experiments are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the controller designed.
In this paper, Various network adaptive MAC scheduling technique is proposed to effectively overcome limits of narrow bandwidth and low transmission speed in underwater. UPFC(Underwater Packet Flow Control) is a technique to reduce both the number of transmission and transmission time using three types (Normal, Blocked, Parallel) of data transmission. In this technique, the load information, in which a transmission node have, is transmitted to destination node using marginal bit in reserved header. Then the transmitted information is referred to determine weighting factor. According to the weighting factor, scheduling is dynamically changed adaptively. The performance of UPFC is analyzed and flow control technique which can be applied to Cluster Based Network and Ad Hoc network as well.

The actuator's response delay, disturbance and measurement noise can often cause a significant error in the target tracking of an underwater vehicle. The first purpose of this paper is error analysis about motion of an underwater vehicle when the closed loop system has actuator and disturbance and noise. The underwater vehicle is simulated for cases of various disturbances. The second purpose is robust controller design for the underwater vehicle with parameter uncertainty. So, two robust control methods are applied for the underwater vehicle. One is standard $H_{\infty}$ control, and the other is time-varying sliding mode control with modified saturation function. Suboptimal design parameters for $H_{\infty}$ control, and design parameters for time-varying switching surfaces are provided Simulations for the two controllers are carried out and their performances are analyzed.lyzed.

In Underwater Flight Vehicle depth control system, the followings must be required. First, It needs a robust performance which can get over the nonlinear characteristics due to hull shape. Second, It needs an accurate performance which has the small overshoot phenomenon and steady state error to avoid colliding with ground surface and obstacles. Third, It needs a continuous control input to reduce the acoustic noise. Finally, It needs an effective interpolation method which can reduce the dependency of control parameters on speed. To solve these problems, we propose a Intelligence depth control method using Fuzzy Sliding Mode Controller and Neural Network Interpolator. Simulation results show the proposed control scheme has robust and accurate performance by continuous control input and has no speed dependency problem.

This paper is mainly concerned with the development of the semi-autonomous underwater vehicle (SAUV). Underwater vehicles are affected by external disturbances due to the sea conditions such as currents and waves when it is performing various missions In this paper we present a design scheme of the SAUV system with mathematical models. Also. we present a control system including motion control of motors and main controller and a communication based on CAN method for interrelated control between the controllers and actuators.
