  • A trial excavation of underwater cultural properties at Dongsam site in Busan has been conducted. The site is located in the vicinity of Dongsam shell mound. The trial excavation consists of the shore investigation and the underwater investigation. For the shore investigation four trenches were digged. For the underwater investigation twenty boreholes were cored, and sediments at four predetermined sites were removed by air lifting technique. From the trial excavation a stump of a tree with many pieces of wood, and a few fragments of earthenwares were found. A comprehensive study of the trail excavation might furnish data for studying ancient coastal environment.

  • Autonomous Underwater Vehicles plays specific role in underwater investigation. Generally, this kind of vehicles will move along a planned path for sea bottom or underwater installations inspections, search for mineral deposits along shelves, seeking lost items including bottom mines or for hydrographic measurements. A crucial barrier for it remains the possibility of precise determination of their underwater position. Commonly used radionavigation systems do not work in such circumstances or do not guarantee the required accuracies. In the paper some new solution is proposed on the assumption that it is possible to increase the precision by certain processing of a combination of measurements conducted by means of different techniques. Objective of the paper is the idea of navigation of AUV which consists of two phases: firstly a trip of AUV along pre-planned route and after that postprocessed transformation of collected data in post-processing mode. During the processing of collected data the modern adjustment methods have been applied, mainly estimation by means of least squares and M-estimation. Application of these methods should be associated with the measuring and geometric conditions of navigational tasks and thus suited for specific scientific and technical problems of underwater navigation. The first results of computer aided investigation will be presented and the basic scope of these application and possible development directions will be indicated also. The paper is prepared as an partial results of the works carried out within a framework of the research Project: 'Improvement of the Precise Underwater Vehicle Navigation Methods' financed by the Polish Ministry of Education and Science (No 0 T00A 012 25).

  • This paper deals with the underwater image transmission system which includes in AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) Project(that is VORAM(Vehicle for Ocean Research And Monitoring)), developed by KIMM for survey and investigation of a sea-bed through transmitting the underwater image to the mother ship. The system presented in this paper consists of a transducer which has a 136KHz center frequency and it's 10KHz bandwidth, pre-amplifier, $\pi$/4 QPSK(Quadreature Phase Shift Keying) modulation/demodulation method, image compressing method using JPEG technique and modified Stop & protocol. The experimental results of the system is verified to a high performance with 9600 bps for transmitting the underwater image through the basin test. The results of test are also verified which allows to desirable transmission performance compared with the existing developed system and the possibility to put the practical use of survey and investigation. And, the viterbi coding and adaptive equalizer for cancelling the multipath effect are developing for more effective image transmission system. Also, these technique will very effectively adapt to realtime image transmission system.

  • The multi-beam side scan sonar system uses the towfish installed sonars, it is an equipment that search images of the bottom surface of the sea in real time. It is a typical equipment that is related to a sea investigation such as a geological survey, seabed communication cable and power line cable placing repair investigation, fish breeding ground investigation, sea purification, relic and mineral investigation, and mine and submarine search. Recently, it is used to sea purification and geological survey that require information of the correct surface of the seabed. Therefore, this research develops multi-beam sensors for a side scan sonar that supply various information with the fast scan speed and correct high resolution that is not a simple underwater investigation equipment.

  • In the inspection of the reactor pressure vessel using an underwater mobile robot, we developed a new bi-directional guidance control scheme between an underwater mobile robot and a laser pointer. We imposed fanning to the inclinometer embedded in the mobile robot to improve its transient response, and used heuristic control scheme to reduce accidents when the laser pointer losts the mobile robot. We implemented these algorithms to our reactor vessel inspect ion system and performed a series of experiments.

  • The objective of this experimental investigation was to examine the fundamental properties of antiwashout underwater concrete. Expriments were conducted on the antiwashout property in underwater, the compressive strength in the air and in underwater, setting time, slump flow loss. As a result, a dosage of 2.0-2.5kg/$\textrm{m}^3$ antiwashout admixture was found to be appropriate not to cause water pollution and to provide a reliably good compressive strength in underwater concrete. Also, the experimental results showed that the amount of less than 50mg/$\ell$ suspended solid was required to obtain the underwater to air compressive strength ratio of more than 80%

  • Underwater acoustics, which is the domain that addresses phenomena related to the generation, propagation, and reception of sound waves in water, has been applied mainly in the research on the use of sound navigation and ranging (SONAR) systems for underwater communication, target detection, investigation of marine resources and environment mapping, and measurement and analysis of sound sources in water. The main objective of remote sensing based on underwater acoustics is to indirectly acquire information on underwater targets of interest using acoustic data. Meanwhile, highly advanced data-driven machine-learning techniques are being used in various ways in the processes of acquiring information from acoustic data. The related theoretical background is introduced in the first part of this paper (Yang et al., 2020). This paper reviews machine-learning applications in passive SONAR signal-processing tasks including target detection/identification and localization.

  • In the earth more than half of the space filled with water. In that water most of the part is in the form of oceans. The ocean atmosphere determines climate on the land. Combining the Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network (UWASN) system with Internet Of Things (IoT) is called Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT). Using IoUT we can find the changes in the ocean environment. Underwater sensor nodes are used in UWASN. Underwater sensor nodes are constructive in offshore investigation, disaster anticipation, data gathering, assisted navigation, pollution checking and strategic inspection. By using IoT components such as Database, Server and Internet, ocean data can be broadcasted. This paper introduces IoUT architecture and and explains fish forming application scenario with this IoUT architecture.
