  • pressure buried pipes in domestic industrial estate have many long-term use pipes, Toxic, flammable, Inflammable, etc. as well as a variety of toxic chemicals are embedded in a complex be buried, A high level of safety management is required as it can damage other pipes installed nearby in the event of accidents such as various external interference. Therefore, in this study, the safety management practices of high-pressure gas distribution and urban gas distribution are utilized to derive efficient safety management methods for high-pressure gas installation piping through in-depth comparative analysis.

  • The effectiveness of UAM is generally accepted, but there has not been much rigorous study on UAM and its mechanical support mechanism is yet to be established. Also, most of UAM installations depend on empirical judgement rather than on engineering knowledge. In this study, an attempt to confirm the support effects and to understand the support mechanism of UAM has been made by analyzing the mechanical behavior of umbrella pipes installed in various ground conditions. The effects of overburden thickness, pipe size, overlap length and the placement of steel arch are studied using a three-dimensional finite element method. From the numerical parametric study, the support mechanism of UAM has been confirmed by analyzing the structural forces in the umbrella pipes due to the excavation.

  • To assess land subsidence estimation and preparedness in the Geum River basin, this study applied GIS techniques and identified six key areas. The Geum River basin has experienced an increase in heavy rainfall since late 2010, and four study areas have shown an increase in groundwater levels. Land subsidence primarily occurred from June to September, with higher rainfall years in 2020 and 2023. Approximately 83.6% of land subsidence in Chungcheongbuk-do province occurred in Cheongju-si, mainly attributed to aging sewage pipes. The regions experiencing population growth have likely led to the construction of underground infrastructures and sewer pipes. Thus, it is considered that various factors, including sewage pipe leaks, precipitation, slope gradient, low drainage density, and groundwater level fluctuations, have contributed to land subsidence. Improving land subsidence estimation involves incorporating additional natural factors and human activities.

  • A high temperature resistant coating has been developed, which is mainly for heavy oil production pipes deserved the serious corrosion. The coating has excellent physical and mechanical performance and corrosion resistance at room and high temperature. In order to simulate the underground working condition of heavy oil pipes, the heat resistance of the high temperature resistant coating has been studied. The development and a study on the heat resistance of the DHT high temperature resistance coating have been introduced in this paper.

  • Soil and rock improvement and reinforcement techniques are applied to achieve safe tunnel excavation in difficult geological conditions. The Umbrella Arch Method(UAM), one of the auxiliary techniques, is used to reduce ground permeability and improve stabtility of the tunnel by inserting a series of steel pipes into ground around the crown inclined to the longitudinal axis of the tunnel. Additionally, multi-step grouting is added through the steel pipes. UAM combines the advantages of a modern forepoling system with the grouting injection method. This technique has been applied in subway, road and utility tunneling sites for the last few years in Korea. This paper presents the results of analysis of the case studies on ground movements associated with UAM used in the Seoul Subway line 5 constructon site. Improvement of tunnel stability and decrease of ground settlement expected with pipe insertion are also discussed. Finally, the method to minimize ground settlements caused by NATM tunnelling are suggested.

  • An analytical study is conducted using the Galerkin technique to determine the behaviour of thin fibre-reinforced composite pipes under soil pressure. Geometric nonlinearity and material linearity are assumed. It is assumed that the vertical and lateral soil pressures are proportional to the depth and the lateral displacement of the pipe respectively. It is also assumed that the radial shear stress is negligible because the ratio of the thickness to the radius of the pipe is very small. The calculation results are compared with the finite element analysis result.

  • Geophysical investigations, as a non-invasive method, were conducted at the former gas station site contaminated with fuel hydrocarbons. GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) survey was performed to locate buried objects such as USTs (Underground Storage Tanks) and fuel pipes which might serve as a origin of the site contamination. Additional GPR investigation and a resistivity survey were conducted to map water table and to characterize shallow geologic structures of the site. The results of the study have shown that seven USTs including one unknown UST and buried fuel pipes are present, and that the groundwater elevation varies with topography from approximately 1.5 to 3m below the surface and the water table is located in the residual soils above the bedrock in the site. The results also show that the geophysical methods can be a very useful tool for the characterization of the contaminated site.

  • Established in the 1960s, high pressure underground pipelines in Ulsan and Yeosu industrial estate are underground as toxic gas as well as combustible gas that is heavier than city gas and low combustion range. Especially, industrial pipelines occupy more than 20 years old pipes. In this way, the industrial estate pipeline was installed before the introduction of the supervision of construction, However, unlike the city gas pipeline, the pipeline is managed without any legal obligation. In this study, the safety management status of high pressure underground pipelines and urban gas underground pipelines in the industrial estate is analyzed and comparison of laws, extent of damage impact, using the pipe inspection model for pipe inspection of high pressure piping system with the existing piping system. it is intended to cuntribute to improving the safety of industrial estate are underground pipeline.

  • Leaks in underground pipelines can cause social, environmental and economical problems. One of relevant countermeasures against leaks is to find and repair of leak points of the pipes. Leak noise is a good source to identify the location of leak points of the pipelines. Although there have been several methods to detect the leak location with leak noise, such as listening rods, hydrophones or ground microphones, they have not been so efficient tools. In this paper, acoustic emission (AE) sensors and accelermeters are used to detect leak locations which could provide all easier and move efficient method. Filtering, signal processing and algorithm of raw input data from sensors for the detection of leak location are described. A 120m-long pipeline system for experiment is installed and the results with the system show that the algorithm with the AE sensors and accelerometers offers accurate pinpointing of leaks. Theoretical analysis of sound wave propagation speed of water in underground pipes, which is critically important in leak locating, is also described.
