Though the static pile load tests gives the mosts accurate estimation on the load carrying capacity of tested pile, it appears time-consuming and not economical. Many test methods using equipments, such as Pile Driving Analyzer(PDA), STATNAMIC, and Osterberg cell, have been introduced in Korea, and pile best using PDA has been gaining popularity because of iris fast and simple operation. Static and dynamic tests results on the piles installed in the granular coils were analyzed to investigate the effect of geometrical damping on the estimated load carrying capacity. It was found that the CAPWAP analysis without considering geometrical damping effect underestimates the pile capacity by 30~60% under certain conditions. It was observed that the underestimation of pile capacity by CAPWAP occurs on the piles installed in the water-borne granular boils by SIP methods. When Smith skin damping value(SSkn) greater than 1.0 sec/m is obtained in CAPWAP analysis, it may reflect the large possibility of underestimation of pile capacity. The introduction of the geometircal damping option in CAPWAP analysis gives reasonable pile capacity, compared with the static pile load test results, and reduces the SSb value under 0.7 sec/m.

Background: The purpose of study was to evaluate radiologic or clinical features of breast cancer undergoing ultrasound (US)-guided 14G core needle biopsy (CNB) and analyze the differences between underestimated and accurately diagnosed groups. Materials and Methods: Of 1,898 cases of US-guided 14G CNB in our institute, 233 cases were proven to be cancer by surgical pathology. The pathologic results from CNB were invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) (n=157), ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) (n=40), high-risk lesions in 22 cases, and benign in 14 cases. Among high-risk lesions, 7 cases of atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) were reported as cancer and 11 cases of DCIS were proven IDC in surgical pathology. Some 29 DCIS cases and 157 cases of IDC were correctly diagnosed with CNB. The clinical and imaging features between underestimated and accurately diagnosed breast cancers were compared. Results: Of 233 cancer cases, underestimation occurred in 18 lesions (7.7%). Among underestimated cancers, CNB proven ADH (n=2) and DCIS (n=11) were diagnosed as IDC and CNB proven ADH (n=5) were diagnosed at DCIS finally. Among the 186 accurately diagnosed group, the CNB results were IDC (n=157) and DCIS (n=29). Comparison of underestimated and accurately diagnosed groups for BI-RADS category, margin of mass on mammography and US and orientation of lesion on US revealed statistically significant differences. Conclusions: Underestimation of US-guided 14G CNB occurred in 7.7% of breast cancers. Between underestimated and correctly diagnosed groups, BI-RADS category, margin of the mass on mammography and margin and orientation of the lesions on US were different.
This study assesses the performance of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model in reproducing regional climate over CORDEX-East Asia Phase 2 domain with different cumulus parameterization schemes [Kain-Fritch (KF), Betts-Miller-Janjic (BM), and Grell-Devenyi-Ensemble (GD)]. The model is integrated for 27 months from January 1979 to March 1981 and the initial and boundary conditions are derived from European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast Interim Reanalysis (ERA-Interim). The WRF model reasonably reproduces the temperature and precipitation characteristics over East Asia, but the regional scale responses are very sensitive to cumulus parameterization schemes. In terms of mean bias, WRF model with BM scheme shows the best performance in terms of summer/winter mean precipitation as well as summer mean temperature throughout the North East Asia. In contrast, the seasonal mean precipitation is generally overestimated (underestimated) by KF (GD) scheme. In addition, the seasonal variation of the temperature and precipitation is well simulated by WRF model, but with an overestimation in summer precipitation derived from KF experiment and with an underestimation in wet season precipitation from BM and GD schemes. Also, the frequency distribution of daily precipitation derived from KF and BM experiments (GD experiment) is well reproduced, except for the overestimation (underestimation) in the intensity range above (less) then $2.5mm\;d^{-1}$. In the case of the amount of daily precipitation, all experiments tend to underestimate (overestimate) the amount of daily precipitation in the low-intensity range < $4mm\;d^{-1}$ (high-intensity range > $12mm\;d^{-1}$). This type of error is largest in the KF experiment.

This study evaluated the applicability of the Modified Bartlett-Lewis Rectangular Pulse (MBLRP) rainfall generation model for modeling extreme rainfalls and floods in Korean Peninsula. Firstly, using the ISPSO (Isolated Species Particle Swarm Optimization) method, the parameters of the MBLRP model were estimated at the 61 ASOS (Automatic Surface Observation System) rain gauges located across Korean Peninsula. Then, the synthetic rainfall time series with the length of 100 years were generated using the MBLRP model for each of the rain gauges. Finally, design rainfalls and design floods with various recurrence intervals were estimated based on the generated synthetic rainfall time series, which were compared to the values based on the observed rainfall time series. The results of the comparison indicate that the design rainfalls based on the synthetic rainfall time series were smaller than the ones based on the observation by 20% to 42%. The amount of underestimation increased with the increase of return period. In case of the design floods, the degree of underestimation was 31% to 50%, which increases along with the return period of flood and the curve number of basin.
The accuracy of the 30% and SRSS rules, commonly used to estimate the combined response of structures, and some related issues, are studied. For complex systems and earthquake loading, the principal components give the maximum seismic response. Both rules underestimate the axial load by about 10% and the COV of the underestimation is about 20%. Both rules overestimate the base shear by about 10%. The uncertainty in the estimation is much larger for axial load than for base shear, and, for axial load, it is much larger for inelastic than for elastic behavior. The effect of individual components may be highly correlated, not only for normal components, but also for totally uncorrelated components. The rules are not always inaccurate for large values of correlation coefficients of the individual effects, and small values of such coefficients are not always related to an accurate estimation of the response. Only for perfectly uncorrelated harmonic excitations and elastic analysis of SDOF systems, the individual effects of the components are uncorrelated and the rules accurately estimate the combined response. In the general case, the level of underestimation or overestimation depends on the degree of correlation of the components, the type of structural system, the response parameter, the location of the structural member and the level of structural deformation. The codes should be more specific regarding the application of these rules. If the percentage rule is used for MDOF systems and earthquake loading, at least a value of 45% should be used for the combination factor.
Traditionally fatty acid composition used to be analysed by a GC and the sample preparation process includes lipid extraction from sample and subsequent methyl esters preparation, which are time-consuming and cumbersome. As an alternative, simultaneous extraction/methylation methods are being developed for rapid and simplified sample preparation. To optimize one-step extraction/methylation method for analysis of fatty acid composition in brown rice, various reaction factors such as sample to reaction solution ratio, reaction time and temperature, shaking intensity were changed and resultant fatty acid composition data were evaluated in comparison with previous reports. The ratio of sample weight to reaction solution volume was the most critical factor in that higher sample to reaction solution ratio caused overestimation of palmitic acid and linoleic acid composition, resulting in underestimation of oleic acid. Lower reaction temperature also induced overestimation of linoleic acid and underestimation of oleic acid. Reaction duration and the intensity of shaking prior to and during the reaction, however, caused no significant changes in analysis results. In conclusion, the optimum condition was mixing 5 grains (about 0.2 g) of brown rice with $680{\mu}L$ of extraction/methylation mixture and $400{\mu}L$ of heptane, followed by reaction at $80^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours.

In this study the results of Chungju reservoir inflow forecasting using 3 layered neural network model were analyzed in order to investigate the characteristics of neural network model for reservoir inflow forecasting. The proper neuron numbers of input and hidden layer were proposed after examining the variations of forecasted values according to neuron number and training epoch changes, and the probability of underestimation was judged by deliberating the variation characteristics of forecasting according to the differences between training and forecasting peak inflow magnitudes. In addition, necessary minimum training data size for precise forecasting was proposed. As a result, We confirmed the probability that excessive neuron number and training epoch cause over-fitting and judged that applying $8{\sim}10$ neurons, $1500{\sim}3000$ training epochs might be suitable in the case of Chungju reservoir inflow forecasting. When the peak inflow of training data set was larger than the forecasted one, it was confirmed that the forecasted values could be underestimated. And when the comparative short period training data was applied to neural networks, relatively inaccurate forecasting outputs were resulted and applying more than 600 training data was recommended for more precise forecasting in Chungju reservoir.

The applicability of the parameter map of the Modified Bartlett-Lewis Rectangular Pulse (MBLRP) model for the Korean Peninsula was assessed from the perspective of flood prediction. The design rainfalls estimated from the MBLRP model were smaller than those from observed values by 5% to 40%, and the degree of underestimation of design rainfall increases with the increase of the recurrence interval of the design rainfall. The design floods at a virtual watershed estimated using the simulated rainfall time series based on MBLRP model were also smaller than those derived from the observed rainfall time series by 20% to 45%. The degree of underestimation of design flood increases with the increase of the recurrence interval of the design flood.

We attempted to determine how adolescents' general characteristics, appearance stress, and anxiety affect adolescents' body image distortion using data from the 16th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey. We confirmed Body image distortion in 38.2% of the subjects, and the results of underestimated body image in 19.9% and overestimation in 18.3%. Appearance stress and anxiety were found to have an effect in both underestimate and overestimate groups. We confirmed that demographic characteristics such as gender, economic level, and academic level influence different aspects in the underestimation and overestimation groups. Therefore, we suggested that comprehensive evaluation by subdividing the subjective perception of adolescents' weight into cases of overestimation and underestimation will be an important factor in determining mental health and weight control behavior in the future.
For estimation of regional myocardial blood flow with O-15 water PET, a few modifications considering partial volume effect based on single compartment model have been proposed. In this study, we attempted to quantify the degree of heterogeneity and to show the effect of tissue flow heterogeneity on partition coefficient(${\lambda}$) and to find the relation between perfusable tissue index(PTI) and ${\lambda}$ by computer simulation using two modified models. We simulated tissue curves for the regions with homogeneous and heterogeneous blood flow over a various flow range(0.2-4.0ml/g/min). Simulated heterogeneous tissue composed of 4 subregions of the same or different size of block which have different homogeneous flow and different degree of slope of distribution of blood flow. We measured the index representing heterogeneity of distribution of blood flow for each heterogeneous tissue by the constitution heterogeneity(CH). For model I, we assumed that tissue recovery coefficient ($F_{MME}$) was the product of partial volume effect($F_{MMF}$) and PTI. Using model I, PTI, flow, and $F_{MM}$ were estimated. For model II, we assumed that partition coefficient was another variable which could represent tissue characteristics of heterogeneity of flow distribution. Using model II, PTI, flow and ${\lambda}$ were estimated. For the simulated tissue with homogeneous flow, both models gave exactly the same estimates, of three parameters. For the simulated tissue with heterogeneous flow distribution, in model I, flow and $F_{MM}$ were correctly estimated as CH was increased moderately. In model II, flow and ${\lambda}$ were decreased curvi-linearly as CH was increased. The degree of underestimation of ${\lambda}$ obtained using model II, was correlated with CH. The degree of underestimation of flow was dependent on the degree of underestimation of ${\lambda}$. PTI was somewhat overestimated and did not change according to CH. We conclude that estimated ${\lambda}$ reflect the degree of tissue heterogeneity of flow distribution. We could use the degree of underestimation of ${\lambda}$ to find the characteristic heterogeneity of tissue flow and use ${\lambda}$ to recover the underestimated flow.
