Under frame side sill of rolling stock structure is designed for preventing corrosion in order to meet mechanical requirements. However during long operation time more than 20 years, there are corrosion in the under frame side sill caused by environmental effect, vibration and etc. So, detection and evaluation of the corrosion ill the under frame nondestructive is one of important issues to extend their life time. Most of nondestructive methods are not easy to apply for detecting corrosion in the under frame side sill, since the under frame side sill consist of there layered with different material (stainless steel - stainless steel - mild steel) and each layer is connected by spot weld and plug weld. Fortunately, pulsed eddy current method claimed that it can be measured not only thickness change but also corrosion under their insulation layers. So, in this study, we have investigated performance of pulsed eddy current testing method by measuring thickness variation of fabricate of mock-up specimens. The investigation results obtained from mock-up specimens and the corrosion evaluation results of the aged rolling stocks will be presented.
As the pipe houses were constructed by imitation and routine without a structural design by now, they were often destructed by a strong wind or a heavy snowfall. The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for the safety structural design of the pipe houses in Kyungpook region to prevent meteorological disaster. It was shown that the change of frame interval according to the safety factor under the wind load was similar that under the snow load. But the safety frame interval under the snow load was approximately 0.5-0.6m greater than that under the wind load for equal safety factor. Therefore, it seemed that the maximum safety frame interval was to be decided by the snow load. The frame of the pipe houses in Seungju region was structurally stable under the design snow load in recurrence intervals of 8-15years, but was unstable in Kolyong region.
This study introduces the testing results of the carbody. The load test was performed to evaluate the structural characteristic and stability of the stainless carbody. The carbody is made of stainless steel. The body structure consisted of side frame, under frame, roof frame, and end frame. Of these components, the side frame and under frame were the most important components considering the vehicle and passenger loads. Loading test were performed under the condition based on "Performance Test Standard for Electrical Multiple Unit". The test results showed that the body structure is safe and stable under the condition of designed load.
With a long sensing period, the inter-frame spectrum sensing in IEEE 802.22 standard is vulnerable to the effect of the traffic of the primary user (PU). In this article, we address the two degrading factors that affect the inter-frame sensing performance with respect to the random arrival/leaving of the PU traffic. They are the noise-only samples under the random arrival traffic, and the PU-signal-contained samples under the random leaving traffic. We propose the model in which the intra-frame sensing cooperates with the inter-frame one, and the inter-frame sensing uses the time-of-arrival (ToA), and time-of-leave (ToL) detectors to reduce the two degrading factors in the inter-frame sensing time. These ToA and ToL detectors are used to search for the sample which contains either the ToA or ToL of the PU traffic, respectively, which allows the partial cancelation of the unnecessary samples. At the final stage, the remaining samples are input into a primary user detector, which is based on the energy detection scheme, to determine the status of PU traffic in the inter-frame sensing time. The analysis and the simulation results show that the proposed scheme enhances the spectrum-sensing performance compared to the conventional counter-part.

The nonlinear behaviors of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) frame structure are investigated by numerical simulation method with 3-D finite fiber elements. The dynamic characteristics and the seismic performance of the RAC frame structure are analyzed and validated with the shaking table test results. Specifically, the natural frequency and the typical responses (e.g., storey deformation, capacity curve, etc.) from Model 1 (exclusion of strain rate effect) and Model 2 (inclusion of strain rate effect) are analyzed and compared. It is revealed that Model 2 is more likely to provide a better match between the numerical simulation and the shaking table test as key attributes of seismic behaviors of the frame structure are captured by this model. For the purpose to examine how seismic behaviors of the RAC frame structure vary under different strain rates in a real seismic situation, a numerical simulation is performed by varying the strain rate. The storey displacement response and the base shear for the RAC frame structure under different strain rates are investigated and analyzed. It is implied that the structural behavior of the RAC frame structure is significantly influenced by the strain rate effect. On one hand, the storey displacements vary slightly in the trend of decreasing with the increasing strain rate. On the other hand, the base shear of the RAC frame structure under dynamic loading conditions increases with gradually increasing amplitude of the strain rate.
This study proposed an improvement in synchronously rotating reference frame-based voltage sag detection under distorted grid voltages. In the past, the conventional synchronously rotating reference frame (CSRRF)-based voltage sag detection was generally used in the voltage sag compensation applications. Its disadvantage is a long delay of detection time. The modified synchronously rotating reference frame (MSRRF)-based voltage sag detection is able to detect the voltage sag with only a short delay in detection time. However, its operation under distorted grid voltage conditions is unavailable. This paper proposed the improvement of modified synchronously rotating reference frame (IMSRRF)-based voltage sag detection for use in distorted grid voltages with very fast operation of voltage sag detection. The operation of the proposed voltage sag detections is investigated via simulations and experimentations to verify the performance of the IMSRRF-based voltage sag detection.
This study investigates the durability of a two-passenger bicycle frame under non-uniform fatigue load. The bicycle frame of Model 1 installed with reinforcement support has a 20% lower maximum equivalent stress than the existing Model 2. Model 1 has a maximum total deformation that is less than half that of Model 2. Model 1 has a higher maximum fatigue life than Model 2. In addition, Model 1 has lower fatigue damage than Model 2. Thus, the bicycle frame of Model 1 installed with reinforcement support can be described as safer, as it offers more strength than Model 2. Applying this result to the design of a real two-passenger bicycle frame under non-uniform fatigue load can effectively prevent fatigue damage and improve durability.
Flat plate slab systems have been commonly used as a gravity force resisting systems, which should be constructed with lateral force resisting systems such as shear walls and moment resisting frame. ACI 318(2005) allows the Direct design method, the equivalent frame method (ACI-EFM) under gravity loads and the finite-element models, effective beam width models and equivalent frame models under lateral loads. ACI-EFM can be used for gravity loads as well as lateral loads analysis. But the method may not predict the behavior of flat plate slabs under lateral loads. Thus Previous study developed a Modified equivalent frame method(Modified-EFM) which could give more precise answer for flat plate slab under lateral loads. This study is to verified the accuracy of a Modified-EFM under combined lateral and gravity loads. The accuracy of this model is verified by comparing the results using the Modified-EFM with the results of finite element analysis. For this purpose, 7 story building is considered. The analysis results of other existing models are included. The analysis results show that Modified-EFM produces comparable drift and slab internal moments with those obtained from finite element analysis.
This paper discusses the elastic stability of unbraced frames under non-proportional loading based on the concept of storey-based buckling. Unlike the case of proportional loading, in which the load pattern is predefined, load patterns for non-proportional loading are unknown, and there may be various load patterns that will correspond to different critical buckling loads of the frame. The problem of determining elastic critical loads of unbraced frames under non-proportional loading is expressed as the minimization and maximization problem with subject to stability constraints and is solved by a linear programming method. The minimum and maximum loads represent the lower and upper bounds of critical loads for unbraced frames and provide realistic estimation of stability capacities of the frame under extreme load cases. The proposed approach of evaluating the stability of unbraced frames under non-proportional loading has taken into account the variability of magnitudes and patterns of loads, therefore, it is recommended for the design practice.
Recently, the design process for a railway bogie frame in Europe has been carried out according to the norm EN 13749. The activities in the norm EN shall demonstrate that the design of the bogie frame fulfills the acceptances of 4 steps of the program such as structural calculation, static tests, fatigue test and on-tracks tests. At the end of the acceptance program, the on-tracks tests have the aim to measure the real stress history generated in operation and to verify that they are reasonably next to those calculated and measured on the test rig. Therefore, in order to assure the safety of the railway vehicle, it is important to examined the durability of that under load histories measured from on-tracks tests. In this study, under variable amplitude loading based on the actual acceleration history, fatigue analysis of the welding bogie frame is investigated by using durability software. Moreover, the fatigue life of the frame under the loading in the norm EN fatigue test condition is evaluated and compared with the life under variable amplitude loading.
