It is very important to maintain the balanced output voltage waveforms under the unbalanced DC-link voltages in the four-switch three-phase inverter(FSTPI). In this paper, the improvement of output voltage waveforms is proposed with the aid of DC-link voltage ripple estimation. The proposed method can be implemented without the additional voltage sensor. The proposed method applied to the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is simulated and experimented in order to verify its feasibility.
This study proposes a new modulation strategy to deal with unbalanced output voltage that is based on three-level neutral-point-clamped cascaded rectifiers. The fundament idea is to reallocate the value of the voltage levels generated by each of the modules on the basis of space vector pulse width modulation. This proposed modulation strategy can reduce the switching frequency while maintaining the mutual-module voltage balance. First, an analysis of unbalanced output voltage is reflected. Then a new modulation strategy is introduced in detail. Internal module capacitor voltages are balanced by the selection of redundant vectors. Moreover, the voltage balance ability is calculated. Finally, the feasibility of this modulation strategy is verified through experimental results.
This paper proposes a compensation method to improve the distorted space vectors when a 3-level Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) inverter has an unbalanced neutral point voltage. Since both the neutral point voltage of the DC link and the space vector of a 3-level NPC inverter are closely related depending on the output load connecting state, a distorted space vector can occur when the neutral point voltage of a 3-level NPC inverter is unbalanced. The proposed method can improve the distorted space vectors by adjusting the injection time of the small and medium vectors and by modulating the amplitude of the carrier waveforms. In this paper, the proposed method is verified by both simulation and experimental results based on a 3-level NPC inverter.

A cascaded H-bridge multi-level STATCOM(STATic synchronous COMpensator), which is composed of many cell inverters with independent dc-sources, generates inevitably dc-side voltage unbalance among phases when it compensates unbalanced load. It comes from the difference of flowing active power in each phase when this compensator makes negative-sequence current to eliminate the unbalance of source-side current. However, this unbalance can be controlled by injecting zero-sequence current which is decoupled with grid currents, so the compensator can work well during this balancing process. Both a feedback control algorithm, which produces zero-sequence current proportional to dc-side voltage unbalance within each phase, and a feedforward control algorithm, which makes zero-sequence current directly from the compensator's negative-sequence current, were proposed. The dc-side voltage of each phase can be controlled stably by these proposed algorithms in both steady-state and transient, so the compensator can have fast response to satisfy control performance under rapid changing load. These balancing controllers were implemented and verified via simulation and experiment.
This paper presents a simplified modulation strategy for the three-leg VSI fed two-winding induction motor. The strategy provides independent unbalanced voltage control for the main and auxiliary windings. This make the motor can be reversed rotation through the range of motor speed operation without limitation of voltage boost of the auxiliary winding. To study the advantages of the proposed drive, the experimental results such as voltage stresses, hysteresis band of the currents in locus, and also acoustic noise levels of the three-leg VSI are compared with those of the conventional two-leg topology. The results obviously show that the proposed technique achieves superior performance compared with the traditional scheme in case of dramatic increase of DC bus utilization, effective reduction of harmonic voltages content, and also significant enhancement of motor efficiency.

Three-phase four-wire distribution systems are used for both three-phase three-wire loads and single-phase two-wire consumer appliances in South Korea, Myanmar and other countries. Unbalanced load conditions frequently occur in these distribution systems. These unbalanced load conditions cause unbalanced voltages for three-phase and single-phase loads, and increase the loss in the distribution transformer. In this paper, we propose constant DC capacitor voltage control based strategy for the active load balancer (ALB) in the three-phase four-wire distribution systems. Constant DC capacitor voltage control is always used in active power line conditioners. The proposed control strategy does not require any computation blocks of the active and reactive currents on the distribution systems. Balanced source-side currents with a unity power factor are obtained without any calculation block of the unbalanced active and reactive components on the load side. The basic principle of the constant DC capacitor voltage control based strategy for the ALB is discussed in detail and then confirmed by both digital computer simulations using PSIM software and prototype experimental model. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed control strategy for the ALB can balance the source currents with a unity power factor in the three-phase four-wire distribution systems.

This paper presents a rectifier with comparator using unbalanced body biasing in $0.11{\mu}m$ RF CMOS process. It is composed of MOSFETs and two comparators. The comparator is used to reduce reverse leakage current which occurs when the load voltage is higher than input voltage. For the comparator, unbalanced body biasing is devised. By using unbalanced body biasing, reference voltage for comparator changing from high state to low state is increased, and it reduces time interval for leakage current to flow. 13.56 MHz 2 Vpp signal is used for input and $1k{\Omega}$ resistor and 1 nF capacitor are used for output load for simulation and experimental environment. In simulation environment, voltage conversion efficiency(VCE) is 87.5 % and Power conversion efficiency(PCE) is 50 %. When the rectifier is measured, VCE shows 90.203 % and PCE shows 45 %.

In order to increase the capacity of the superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL), the current and voltage grades of the SFCL must be increased. As a method for the increase of the current and voltage grades of the SFCL, we compared the various characteristics between the flux-lock type SFCL "With three superconducting units connected in series and the transformer type SFCL using the transformer with three secondary circuits. One of three superconducting units had not quenched in the flux-lock type SFCL. Therefore, the unbalanced power burden happened because of the voltage difference generated by unbalanced quenching between the superconducting units. In the meantime, the three superconducting units were all quenched in the transformer type SFCL using the transformer, and the voltage difference generated between the superconducting units was decreased. Therefore, the difference of critical characteristics was complemented by distribution of fault current in accordance with the turn's ratio between primary and secondary windings. The unbalanced power burden of the superconducting units was reduced due to flux-share between the superconducting units in the transformer. In conclusion, the capacity increment of the SFCL using a transformer was easier due to equal distribution of voltages generated by simultaneous quench of the superconducting units. We think that the characteristics is improved more because of the decrease of saturation in the iron core if the secondary winding is increased in the SFCL using the transformer.
This paper proposes a virtual flux (VF) and positive-sequence power based control strategy to improve the performance of grid-interfaced three-phase voltage source converters against unbalanced and distorted grid conditions. By using a second-order generalized integrator (SOGI) based VF observer, the proposed strategy achieves an AC voltage sensorless and grid frequency adaptive control. Aiming to realize a balanced sinusoidal line current operation, the fundamental positive-sequence component based instantaneous power is utilized as the control variable. Moreover, the fundamental negative-sequence VF feedforward and the harmonic attenuation ability of a sequence component generator are employed to further enhance the unbalance regulation ability and the harmonic tolerance of line currents, respectively. Finally, the proposed scheme is completed by combining the foregoing two elements with a predictive direct power control (PDPC). In order to verify the feasibility and validity of the proposed SOGI-VFPDPC, the scenarios of unbalanced voltage dip, higher harmonic distortion and grid frequency deviation are investigated in simulation and experimental studies. The corresponding results demonstrate that the proposed strategy ensures a balanced sinusoidal line current operation with excellent steady-state and transient behaviors under general grid conditions.
The paper is described the analysis of spacing flux distribution, EMF and torque pulsation in unbalanced voltage squirrell-cage induction motor using finite element method.
