기계식 타이머 밸런스 휠의 진동 주파수 측정 및 조정 장비의 개발 (Development of a oscillating frequency measurement and adjustment system of a balance wheel of Mechanical Timer)

  • A system for measuring and adjusting the oscillating frequency of a balance wheel whick determins the accuracy of mechanical timers. The balance wheel oscillates rotatively suspended by a hair spring which is welded at the other end to the pivot tube. The natural oscillatory frequency of the balance wheel is determined by the length of hairspring from the balance wheel to the point if other parameters the length in the torsional oscillation model are not changed, so the frequency of the balance wheel can be adjusted to meet a requirement by the adjustment of the hairspring length using ultrasonic welding. And the movement of wheel teeth is measured in realtime by a high speed photo fiber sensor and Auto Correlation is used to find a more accurate oscillation period from the measured signal with some variations.

  • The reactor pressure vessel head of PWR has penetrations for control rod drive mechanism and instrumentation systems. The Primary coolant water and operating temperature can cause the stress-corrosion cracking of these nickel-based alloy penetrations. It is difficult to detect and size flaws such as SCC in the reactor head penetrations using conventional W methods because of complex geometry, Therefore, the utilities are using the TOFD technique for the detection and sizing of the flaw. This study shows the correlation between the ultrasonic wave direction and the orientation of the flaw and the range of flaw depth which can be detected by the TOFD techniques.

  • Copper wire bonding is an alternative interconnection technology that serves as a viable and cost saving alternative to gold wire bonding. In this paper, ultrasonic wedge bonding with $25{\mu}m$ copper wire on Au/Ni/Cu metallization of a PCB substrate was performed at ambient temperature. The central composite design of experiment (DOE) approach was applied to optimize the copper wire wedge bonding process parameters. After that, pull test of the wedge bond was performed to study the bond strength and to find the optimum bonding parameters. SEM was used to observe the cross section of the wedge bond. The pull test results show good performance of the wedge bond. Additionally, DOE results gave the optimized parameter for both the first bond and the second bond. Cross section analysis shows a continuous interconnection between the copper wire and Au/Ni/Cu metallization. The diffusion of Cu into the Au layer was also observed.

  • 최근 자동차 제조업과 조선산업 등에서는 용접구조물의 정밀 용접분야에 레이저-아크 하이브리드(Laser-Arc Hybrid) 용접기술 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이는 고속용접, 고밀도, 저열입량 등의 특징을 갖는 레이저 빔 용접과 저가, 넓은 GaP 연결능력 등의 특징을 갖는 기존의 아크 용접법의 장점을 결합하여, 양산시간을 단축하고, 생산비를 절감하며, 품질을 향상시키는데 목적이 있다. 이와 더불어 레이저-아크 하이브리드 용접부에 대한 검사 평가 기술에 대한 수요가 증가하고 있으며, 특히 박판(Thin Plate) 용접부의 비파피 검사 기술이 요구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 자동차용 차체 모듈 생산 공정에서의 레이저-아크 하이브리드 용접부에 대한 초음파 비파괴 검사를 수행하였다.

초음파 열 영상 검사를 이용한 브레이징 접합 결함 검출 (A Brazing Defect Detection Using an Ultrasonic Infrared Imaging Inspection)

  • 고에너지 초음파 여기 탄성파가 물체의 균열, 박리 등의 결함 부위를 통과할 때 서로 맞닿은 결함면은 균일하게 진동하지 않는다. 초음파 입사에 따른 결함 면 사이의 마찰(friction), 문지름 (rubbing) 또는 부딪침(clapping) 에 의해 진동 에너지가 결함 부위에서 국부적인 열로 변환된다. 이를 적외선 열 영상 카메라로 관측하면 구조물의 결함을 실시간으로 검출할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 초음파 열 영상 검사를 이용한 인코넬 합금 박판의 브레이징 접합 결함 검출에 대해 기술한다. 2 kW 의 전력과 23 kHz 대역의 가진 주파수를 갖는 초음파 펄스를 280 ms 기간 동안 인코넬 합금의 브레이징 접합 박판에 입사시켰다. 브레이징 접합부의 결함위치 부근의 인코넬 합금 박판의 양면이 맞닿은 경계선에서 아주 밝은 국부적인 발열(핫 스팟)이 적외선 열 영상 카메라에 의해 관측되었으며 브레이징 접합 결함 위치에서도 미약한 열이 관측되었다. 배경 감산 평균 및 히스토그램 평활화 처리 등의 영상처리를 통해 브레이징 접합의 결함을 확인하였다.

액체생검용 Lab-on-a-Disc의 평탄도 향상을 위한 최적화 (Design Optimization to achieve an enhanced flatness of a Lab-on-a-Disc for liquid biopsy)

  • Lab-on-a-disc is a circular disc shape of cartridge that can be used for blood-based liquid biopsy to diagnose an early stage of cancer. Currently, liquid biopsies are regarded as a time-consuming process, and require sophisticated skills to precisely separate cell-free DNA (cfDNA) and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) floating in the bloodstream for accurate diagnosis. However, by applying the lab-on-a-disc to liquid biopsy, the entire process can be operated automatically. To do so, the lab-on-a-disc should be designed to prevent blood leakage during the centrifugation, transport, and dilution of blood inside the lab-on-a-disc in the process of liquid biopsy. In this study, the main components of lab-on-a-disc for liquid biopsy are fabricated by injection molding for mass production, and ultrasonic welding is employed to ensure the bonding strength between the components. To guarantee accurate ultrasonic welding, the flatness of the components is optimized numerically by using the response surface methodology with four main injection molding processing parameters, including the mold & resin temperatures, the injection speed, and the packing pressure. The 27 times finite element analyses using Moldflow® reveal that the injection time and the packing pressure are the critical factors affecting the flatness of the components with an optimal set of values for all four processing parameters. To further improve the flatness of the lab-on-a-disc components for stable mass production, a quarter-disc shape of lab-on-a-disc with a radius of 75 mm is used instead of a full circular shape of the disc, and this significantly decreases the standard deviation of flatness to 30% due to the reduced overall length of the injection molded components by one-half. Moreover, it is also beneficial to use a quarter disc shape to manage the deviation of flatness under 3 sigma limits.

Advances in Ultrasonic Testing of Austenitic Stainless Steel Welds

  • A precise description of the material is a key point to obtain reliable results when using wave propagation codes. In the case of multipass welds, the material is very difficult to describe due to its anisotropic and heterogeneous properties. Two main advances are presented in the following. The first advance is a model which describes the anisotropy resulting from the metal solidification and thus the model reproduces an anisotropy that is correlated with the grain orientation. The model is called MINA for modelling anisotropy from Notebook of Arc welding. With this kind of material model1ing a good description of the behaviour of the wave propagation is obtained, such as beam deviation or even beam division. But another advance is also necessary to have a good amplitude prediction: a good quantification of the attenuation, particularly due to grain scattering, is also required as far as attenuation exhibits a strong anisotropic behaviour too. Measurement of attenuation is difficult to achieve in anisotropic materials. An experimental approach has been based both on the decomposition of experimental beams into plane waves angular spectra and on the propagation modelling through the anisotropic material via transmission coefficients computed in generally triclinic case. Various examples of results are showed and also some prospects to continue refining numerical simulation of wave propagation.

최소극 문턱치 알고리즘을 이용한 고감쇠 용접부에서 초음파 검사방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Ultrasonic Inspection Method in High Attenuation Welds using Minimization-Polarity Threshold Algorithm)

  • 본 논문에서는 결함신호의 신호 대 잡음비를 높이기 위해 최소진복선택 알고리즘과 극 문턱치(PT : polarity threshold) 알고리즘을 결합한 최소극 문턱치(MPO : minimum polarity threshold) 알고리즘을 이용한 원전 고감쇠 용접부 초음파 검사방법을 제안하였다. 제안된 알고리즘의 유용성을 확인하기 위한 실험에서는 ASME Xl 코드에 준하는 원전의 실제 모재와 동일한 용접방법으로 제작된 대비 시험편과 4종류의 개선된 탐촉자를 이용하였다. 실험 결과, SE(safeend)와 CCSS(centrifugal casting stainless steel) 재료는 조직의 구조적 특성 때문에 산란신호가 발생하고, 용접 내부에서는 높은 감쇠 현상이 발생하여 정확한 결합검출 능력이 저하되며, 이러한 결함신호에 최소극 문턱치 알고리즘을 적용하면 신호 대 잡음비가 2.6배 개선됨을 확인하였다.

가압기 전열기 슬리브 및 J-Groove 용접부의 자동 초음파검사 (Automatic Ultrasonic Inspection on Heater Sleeves and J-Groove Welds of Pressurizer)

  • In order to prevent the corrosion of component contacted primary water designed alloy 600 material in the nuclear power plant. But the primary water stress corrosion cracking(PWSCC) of alloy 600 and weld area occurs continuously due to the residual stress. The leakage accident resulted from PWSCC in the drain nozzle of the steam generator of domestic power plants. Heater sleeves of the pressurizer are welded with alloy 600 weld material and therefore exposed to the primary water environment. PWSCC occurred in heater sleeve material and weld area of many foreign power plants. The current issue of domestic nuclear power plants are consequently concentrated to PWSCC of similar material. In order to improve the detection and the sizing of the PWSCC in the welding sleeve of the pressurizer, the automatic UT system and multi-directions probe sets have been developed. The experimental studies have been performed using the mock-up block containing artificial reflectors(ID connected EDM notch) and semi-artificial cracks made from thermal fatigue. The automatic UT System is applied in the detection and the length sizing of the ID/OD on the tube and the J-groove weld area of the artificial reflectors and results of the detection and the sizing are compared respectively. Also, the developed automatic UT system is successfully accomplished to inspect the heater sleeve and the J-groove weld area on the pressurizer for the detection of PWSCC.

STS304 스테인리스강 용접부 결함평가에 대한 Pulse-echo법과 TOFD법의 비교연구 (A Comparative Study of Pulse-echo Method and TOFD Method for the Defect in the Welding Joint of the STS304 Stainless Steel)

  • For the evaluation of a flaw in a welded stainless steel by the Time of Flight Diffraction(TOFD) Method, we have made the reference specimen for experimentation. As a result, we could analyze a specific character and the inner state of the structure in a welded stainless steel and we came to the conclusion as followed. (1) For analyze the structure state of a section in a welded stainless steel through the optical microscope, we could have analyzed the generated shape and the location of a flaw and the inner parts of the structure state through the microscope of eighty magnification and two hundred magnification about the soundness, the heat affected zone(HAZ) and the welded part. (2) Through the comparison with the shape and the size of a flaw in the welded part about the conventional ultrasonic test and the TOFD Method, we could make an observation the special character of the TOFD Method and principles. (3) We analyzed and collected the merit of the TOFD Method on the basis of the experimental result by the shape and the size of a flaw in the inner welded parts. So, we made up a base that we could use as a basic data for a similar flaw like that. Through the study as mentioned above, we could make an observation the flaw detective method and principles used in the TOFD Method.
