  • This paper presents the lousing characteristics and the time. response of ultrasonic focusing transducer which is a coupled system with an electromechanical and an acoustical component. The Finite Element Method and the Hybrid Type Infinite Element Method are applied for the analysis. The position of the focal points and the resolutions is obtained from the loosing characteristics and the time response. It is found that the transducer with the damper, which stabilizes the displacement of the radiation surface, gives a better resolution. In conclusion, the results could be applied to the design and the performance analysis of the ultrasonic focusing transducer.

  • In this study, focusing of ultrasonic Lamb wave by negative refraction with mode conversion from antisymmetric to symmetric mode was investigated. When a wave propagates backward by negative refraction, the energy flux is antiparallel to the phase velocity. Backward propagation of Lamb wave is quite well known, but the behavior of backward Lamb wave at an interface has rarely been investigated. A pin-type transducer is used to detect Lamb wave propagating on a steel plate with a step change in thickness. Conversion from forward to backward propagating mode leads to negative refraction and thus wave focusing. By comparing the amplitudes of received Lamb waves at a specific frequency measured at different distance between transmitter and interface, the focusing of Lamb wave due to negative refraction was confirmed.

  • The treatment of obesity have been developed various devices for the treatment of obesity, the ultrasound is to be made after the state changes to become easy fat decomposition by heat and vibrations to facilitate the flow of blood and lymph fatty acid released into the blood. There is such ultrasonic transducer array is used in obesity therapy focusing angle of the transducer array and the frequency may have a significant impact on the degradation of fat. In this paper, we set the frequency that reaches the shortest time to a set temperature 27kHz, 1MHz, by applying a transducer with a diameter of 5mm, 10mm, 16mm for the frequency of 3MHz, obtain the wavelength and near the stomach in order to set the frequency of the transducer array, which was set to the focusing angle of the transducer with three contact surfaces. As a result, the time to reach the set temperature was short days when 3MHz frequency, the focusing angle is titrated is $40^{\circ}$.

  • Ultrasonic inspection methods are widely used for detecting flaws in materials. One of the more popular methods involves the extraction of an appropriate set of features followed by the use of a neural network for the classification of the signals in the feature space. This paper describes an approach which uses LMS method to determine the coordinates of the ultrasonic probe followed by the use of SAFT to estimate the location of the ultrasonic reflector The method is employed for classifying NDE signals from the steam generator tubes in a nuclear power plant. The classification results using this scheme for the ultrasonic signals from cracks and deposits within steam generator tubes are presented.

  • The expanded multi-Gaussian beam model has recently been developed that can calculate the radiation beam field from a single, rectangular transducer with great computational efficiency. In this study, this model is adopted to calculate the radiation beam field for a phased array transducer with various time delays to achieve steering and/or focusing. The calculation beam fields are compared to those obtained by well known Rayleigh-Sommerfeld integral that provides the exact solution in order to explore the validity of the expanded multi-Gaussian beam model And then, this study proposes a complete ultrasonic measurement model including the expanded beam model, far-field scattering model and system efficiency, Using the proposed model, phased array ultrasonic testing signals for a flat-bottomed hole with/without focusing were performed.

  • When focusing using an ultrasonic transducer array, a main lobe is formed in the focal region of an ultrasound field, but side lobes also arise around the focal region due to the leakage. Since the side lobes cannot be completely eliminated in the focusing process, they are responsible for subsequent ultrasound image quality degradation. To improve ultrasound image quality, a signal processing strategy to reduce side lobes is definitely in demand. To this end, quantitative determination of main and side lobes is necessary. We propose a theoretically and actually error-free method of exactly discriminating and separately computing the main lobe and side lobe parts in ultrasound image by computer simulation. We refer to images constructed using the main and side lobe signals as the main and side lobe images, respectively. Since the main and side lobe images exactly represent their main and side lobe components, respectively, they can be used to evaluate ultrasound image quality. Defining the average brightness of the main and side lobe images, the conventional to side lobe image ratio, and the main to side lobe image ratio as image quality metrics, we can evaluate image characteristics in speckle images. The proposed method is also applied in assessing the performance of side lobe suppression filtering. We show that the proposed method may greatly aid in the evaluation of medical ultrasonic images using computer simulations, albeit lacking the use of actual experimental data.

  • Pipes, commonly used in energy and petrochemical facilities, have various types of defects induced by diverse factors and this is often issued in NDE society. Ultrasonic guided wave inspection method are normally adopted to insure the healthiness of industry pipes. Recently, ultrasonic guided wave inspection is shifted to adopt arrayed probes and system. And here we developed an array guided wave ultrasonic testing system can adapt arrayed probes and focusing methods. In this paper, an array guided wave ultrasonic testing system is presented including a transmitting focusing technique and flaw signal level enhancement.

Image processing algorithms are built into the flaw image processing system for the automated ultrasonic testing system. The developed signal and image analysis algorithms addressed in this study include an A-Scan data compression algorithm, ultrasonic image amplification algorithm and B-scan flaw image correction algorithm(SAFT). This flaw image processing system for the automated ultrasonic testing system can be applied to various inspection fields.

  • Inspection of dissimilar metal welds using phased array ultrasound is not easy at all, because crystalline structure of dissimilar metal welds cause deviation and splitting of the ultrasonic beams. Thus, in order to have focusing and/or steering phased array beams in dissimilar metal welds, proper time delays should be determined by ray tracing. In this paper, we proposed an effective approach to solve this difficult problem. Specifically, we modify the Oglivy's model parameters to describe the crystalline structure of real dissimilar metal welds in a fabricated specimen. And then, we calculate the proper time delay and incident angle of linear phased array transducer in the anisotropic and inhomogeneous material for focusing and/or steering phased array ultrasonic beams on the desired position.
