  • Effects of ultrafinely ground ash on the rheological properties of cement paste were investigated. Also compressive strength development and setting time of ultrafine ash blended cement mortar were investigated in the study. A sample with silica fume was included for comparison. According to the results of ultra fine ash blended cement paste in the lower W/B ratio, the fluidity were high, and the setting time was a little retarded. And the compressive strength of ultrafine ash blended mortar was increased in the long term. In the case of hardened cement paste at 28 days, $Ca(OH)_2$ contents was decreased in order of control, ultrafine ash, silica fume blended cement due to difference of the pozzolanic reaction.

  • The grouting method is to reinforce the ground by injecting the chemical solution for the strengthening of the ground. Cement grouting material has usually used portland cement for centuries ago, but the cement particle size is large and the injection effect is limited. This study analyzes the effect of ultrafine cement grouting in rock ground using 3S-1 grouting in rock ground and ordinary Portland cement (OPC). The results of tests were compared and analyzed from the Lugeon test, bore loading test (P.M.T.), and injection (P-Q) test. The use of ultrafine cement (3S-1) had a higher effect (K, 10-6cm/sec) than OPC. The reinforcement effect of 3S-1 was also confirmed. Ultrafine cement (3S-1) was 4~9 times more injectable than OPC. Therefore, it is more advantageous to use ultrafine cement (3S-1) than OPC.

  • Due to economic and environmental benefits, increasing the substitution ratio of ordinary cement by industry by-products like fly ash (FA) is one of the best approaches to reduce the impact of the concrete industry on the environment. However, as the substitution rate of FA increases, it will have an adverse impact on the performance of cement-based materials, so the actual substitution rate of FA is limited to around 10-30%. Therefore, in order to increase the early-age strength of high replacement (30-70%) low-calcium ultrafine FA blended cement paste, sodium sulfate and calcium sulfate dihydrate were used to improve the reactivity of FA. The results show that sodium sulfate has a significant enhancement effect on the strength of the composite pastes in the early and late ages, while calcium sulfate dihydrate has only a slight effect in the late ages. The addition of sodium sulfate in the cement-FA blended system can enhance the gain rate of non-evaporation water, and can decrease the Ca(OH)2 content. In addition, when the sulfate chemical activators are added, the ettringite content increases, and the surface of the FA is dissolved and hydrated.

  • Rheological properties of cement paste containing ultrafine blastfurnace slag (UBS, $9600cm^2/g$) were investigated by mini-slump test, pH meter, conduction calorimeter and coaxial cylinder viscometer. In order to improve rheological properties of the cement paste, granulated blastfurnace slag (GBS, $3500cm^2/g$) and polycarboxylate type superplasticizer (PC) were also used in this experiment. The fluidity of cement paste containing UBS was decreased. The yield stress and plastic viscosity of cement paste was increased with increasing UBS. But the rheological properties were improved when GBS and PC were added to UBS blended cement paste. In the relationship between the yield stress and the plastic viscosity or the mini-slump value, the yield stress of the cement paste was proportional to the plastic viscosity of it. However the cement paste mini-slump value was in inverse proportional to the yield stress.

  • The fine blast furnace slag is widely used as the admixture as it helps to increase the fluidity, long term strength of the concrete but decrease the heat of hydration. In case of the fine blast furnace slag, if the fineness of the slag is enhanced with the addition of gypsum to the concrete for the supplement of low strength in early stage and the facilitation of the initial hydration, the quality of the concrete is expected to change depending on the volume of the gypsum volume fraction. But, up to now the study on the fine blast furnace slag has only focused on the effect of fineness, replacement and admixture and there have been almost no studies on the effect of the gypsum volume fraction. Accordingly, this study focuses on what effect the gypsum volume fraction would make on the fluidity characteristics of the ultrafine furnace slag cement paste by using the rheology properties.

  • In this study, a test has been carried out to solve the problem with ground granulated blast-furnace slag, low early strength & lack of supply and to find out a way to use as concrete admixture of the ultrafine blaine air cooling slag which is all disposed as the by product of air cooling slag and its test was conducted to the replacement rate of ultrafine blaine air cooling slag & mixing condition of every concrete admixtures by type for the purpose of obtaining later a basic data for practical use of the cement that used ultrafine blaine air cooling slag by conducting comparative analysis. If ultrafine-blaine air cooling slag is used to the concrete following the results, a high efficiency water reducing agent won't be needed much for flow acquisition due to a high increase in flow, and the stripping time of concrete form will be shortened thanks to the acquisition of early strength, And though, it has the problems with long term strength which is similar or a little lower than the 3 types of ground granulated blast-furnace slag, it's still applicable as the substitute materials for 3 types of ground granulated blast-furnace slag at 10, 15% replacement rate of ultrafine-blaine air cooling slag, at which it shows higher activation index than 3 types of ground granulated blast-furnace slag.

  • Reusing building materials and concrete of old buildings can be a promising strategy for sustained development. In buildings, the performance of materials under elevated temperatures is of particular interest for determining fire resistance. In this study, the effect of pozzolan and aggregate type on properties of concrete exposed to fire was investigated. In doing so, nanosilica with cement-replacement levels of 0, 2, and 4% as well as silica fume and ultrafine fly ash with cement-replacement levels of 0, 7.5, and 15% were used to study effect of pozzolan type, and recycled refractory brick (RRB) fine aggregate replacing natural fine aggregate by 0 and 100% was utilized to explore effect of aggregate type. A total of 126 cubic concrete specimens were manufactured and then investigated in terms of compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity, and weight loss at $23^{\circ}C$ and immediately after exposure to 400 and $800^{\circ}C$. Results show that replacing 100% of natural fine aggregate with recycled refectory brick fine aggregate in the concretes exposed to heat was desirable, in that it led to a mean compressive strength increase of above 25% at $800^{\circ}C$. In general, among the pozzolans used here, silica fume demonstrated the best performance in terms of retaining the compressive strength of heated concretes. The higher replacement level of silica fume and ultrafine fly ash pozzolans in the mixes containing RRB fine aggregate led to a greater weight loss rate, while the higher replacement level of nanosilica reduced the weight loss rate.

  • This paper presents the effect of silica fume and nano silica, used individually and in combination with the set accelerator and/or hydrated lime, on the properties of class F high volume ultra fine fly ash (HV-UFFA) cement composites, replacing 80 % of cement (OPC). Compressive strength test along with thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were undertaken to study the effect of various elements on the physico-chemical behaviour of the blended composites. The results show that silica fume when used in combination with the set accelerator and hydrated lime in HV-UFFA cement mortar, improves its 7 and 28 day strength by 273 and 413 %, respectively, compared to the binary blended cement fly ash mortar. On the contrary, when nano silica is used in combination with set accelerator and hydrated lime in HV-UFFA cement mortar, the disjoining pressure in conjunction with the self-desiccation effect induces high early age micro cracking, resulting in hindering the development of compressive strength. However, when nano silica is used without the additives, it improves the 7 and 28 day strengths of HV-UFFA cement mortar by 918 and 567 %, respectively and the compressive strengths are comparable to that of OPC.

  • To prepare the alumina cement free vibrated alumina castable, $\rho$-alumina is employed as a binder material, and nano-sized clay is added to enhance the curing strength and give thixotropic behavior. The rheological behavior of matrix of castable is controlled by investigating the influences of ultrafines, $\rho$-alumina, and nano-sized clay on the viscosity of matrix. The microsilica and ultrafine alumina were added 3 wt% and 4 wt%, respectively to the matrix, which showed that the viscosities tends to be lowest values. The rheological property of the matrix is well established by adding $\rho$-alumina as 8 wt% and clay as 4 wt%. The thixotropic behavior of the $\rho$-alumina bonded castable was appeared by introducing nano-sized clay into the matrix and adjusting the pH near to the PZC of the clay suspension.

  • This paper presents the feasibility of incorporating ultrafine particles collected in the separator bag filter (separator bag filter cement, SBFC) during the cement manufacturing process as an substitution material for cement. SBFC does not require additional processes needed in the existing processes to manufacture high early strength cement such as modifying mineral components and adjusting the firing temperature. Moreover, it can also solve the issue of efficiency decrease resulted from the increase of the grinding time applied in the existing process of manufacturing microcement. Therefore, this research has examined the characteristics of SBFC and fresh properties and mechanical properties after making paste and mortar using SBFC in order to use SBFC as a material to gain early strength of concrete. For results, analyzing the chemical composition and physical properties of SBFC, its blaine value was $6,953cm^3/g$, about double than that of OPC, but its chemical composition showed no significant difference. According to the result of the paste and mortar examination, the paste and mortar mixed with SBFC showed a lower flowability, earlier setting time, and higher compressive strength than that with OPC. The result of microstructure analysis of paste, the paste mixed with SBFC indicated about 9% lower internal porosity at an early age than that of OPC. The compressive strength and flexural strength of mortar were higher in the order of SBFC ratio of 100, 50 and 0% SBFC.
