A Study on the RF Performance Analysis of Wireless Communication System for Ultra WideBand (Ultra WideBand 무선 시스템 성능분석에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the performance requirements of wireless systems on ultra wide band, which is set by FCC(Federal Communications Commission). Normally the calculation of performance requirements is used in the standard form of each communication systems, but there is no standard in the wireless systems on Ultra WideBand. Therefore, I derive each system parameters through the analysis of new system performance on the basis of the method of Indoor Communication Systems. Additionally, I compare the conditions that are given by FCC with resolution of the performance by domestic law.

  • The Ultra-Wide Band sensor is widely used as a wireless indoor localization technology with frequency bands in the GHz range. Meanwhile, in museums, not only the real-time location of visitors but also information on visit route and duration time is required for patrons' behavior analysis. In this paper, the analysis system based Ultra-Wide Band radar for visitor's viewing behavior is introduced and experimented in the real environment. We built the system in National Museum of Korea, and its 22 Ultra-Wide Band radar sensors receive the real-time location of their visitors: this analyzes the visit route and visit time for patrons.

  • 본 논문은 UWB(Ultra Wide-band) 통신 시스템에서 효과적인 신호 검출 알고리즘을 제안한다. UWB 통신 시스템은 차세대 통신 시스템으로 각광 받고 있는 기술로써, 매우 낮은 파워의 송신 신호를 사용한다. 그로 인해 잡음 및 다중 경로 환경하에서 신호 검출 알고리즘이 시스템 성능에 매우 중요한 부분으로 작용한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 신호 검출 성능을 높이기 위해, 신호의 정확한 위치를 잡는 Tracking과정에서 사용되는 DLL 구조를 활용하여 보다 세밀한 신호 탐색이 가능하다. 실험 결과 신호 위치를 기준으로 신호길이의 1/3 내에서 신호를 검출할 확률이 AWGN 15dB 이하에서 30% 정도 높아짐을 확인하였다.

  • We propose a D-ATR UWB (Differential-Average Transmitted Reference Ultra Wide Band) system based on impulse radio. The TR-UWB systems including traditional TR (Transmitted Reference) and ATR (Average TR), exhibit a problem of reduced data rate, since reference signals are additionally transmitted. To tackle this issue, the transmitter of the proposed D-ATR system employs a differential coding like the conventional D-TR system. In addition, the receiver of the proposed system has the structure that can improve signal-to-noise ratio of the reference template used in the correlation process, by recursively averaging the received reference signals like the conventional ATR system. The simulation results in the IEEE 802.15.4a UWB multipath channel models reveal that the proposed D-ATR system achieves much better bit error rate performance as compared to the conventional D- TR system.

  • UWB(Ultra Wide Band) system for high speed and high accurate location has been studying actively. This paper presents the design and implementation of RF transceiver for DS-CDMA(Direct Sequence-Code Division Multiple Access) UWB device. Major components of RF transceiver such as Low Noise Amplifier(LNA) and Band Pass Filter(BPF) are designed and then fabricated to meet wideband characteristics. The RF transceiver was implemented by the use of the fabricated components and commercial devices after carrying out performance simulation. Through the performance evaluation of the UWB RF transceiver with W-CDMA signal, the approach of design, implementation and evaluation of RF transceiver which is available to DS-CDMA UWB system is verified.

  • The analysis of RF performance requirement conditions on communication system is critical indicator to predict the performance of system. UWB(Ultra Wide Band) system which the standard is not established yet is difficult to derive the precise system performance requirement condition. Also, there are differences between conventional UWB system and multi-band system about RF performance requirement condition. In this thesis, the differences are analyzed and performance requirement conditions of multi-band UWB system are described on the basis of the differences. Throughput, maximum transmit power, and sensitivity of multi-band UWB system is varied with respect to the number of Sub-Bands. In addition, because of Multi-path effect, if PRF(Pulse Repetition Frequency) is changed, the Multi-path link margin is happened to compensate for Multi-path Energy Loss which is contributed by increasing of the Link Margin. According to Multi-path Margin, the variation of the resistance with respect to sensitivity and interference signal is observed and analyzed through the simulation.

  • The use of a single UWB antenna which covers a wide range of frequencies is very desirable for future wireless communications system. In this paper, we propose a novel wide band printed elliptic monopole antenna for UWB(Ultra wide Band). Wideband planar monopole disc antenna have been recently studied. The proposed antenna can cover UWB frequencies from 3.5GHz to 12GHz. it is determined from 10dB return loss. The antenna consists of the printed elliptical monopole disc with microstrip-line feed. Elliptic disc of antenna and ground height operate important to matching. The results of measurement are almost similar to those of simulation.

  • UWB(Ultra-Wide Band) system is transmitted using Gaussian monocycle pulse of very short pulse duration less than 1 nsec. Therefore, transmission signal has ultra-wide band spectrum to GHz band of very low power and not interfere with the existing communication system. A collision of multipath waves in UWB system with tarrier frequency very different with general wireless communication system. In this paper, the BER(Bit Error Rate) performance of UWB system applying Binary Phase Shift Keying, Quadrature Phase Shift Keying, 16-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation method under multipath channel using computer simulation is compared and analyzed.

Receiver Techniques for Ultra-wide-band Multiuser Systems over Fading Multipath Channels

  • We treat the problem of channel estimation and interference cancellation in multiuser ultra-wide-band (UWB) communication systems over multipath fading channels. The UWB system under consideration employs a random time-hopping impulse radio format. We develop a channel estimation method based on linear weighted algorithm. An iterative channel estimation and interference cancellation scheme is proposed to successively improve the receiver performance. We also consider systems employing multiple transmit and/or receive antennas. For systems with multiple receive antennas, we develop a diversity receiver for the wellseparated antennas. For systems with multiple transmit antennas, we propose to make use of Alamouti’s space-time transmission scheme, and develop the corresponding channel estimation and interference cancellation receiver techniques. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance of various UWB receiver techniques developed in this paper.

The Effects of PRF and Slot Interval on the PPM-Based Ultra Wide-Band Systems (PPM-기반의 UWB 시스템에 대한 PRF와 슬롯 시간의 영향)

  • In this paper, we investigate the effect of pulse repetition frequency (PRF) and slot interval on the throughput performance of the ultra wide band (UWB) wireless communication system in multi-path channels, and based on these observations, a data throughput control using PRF and slot interval is proposed for maximizing the effective throughput. Recently, due to many desirable features of the UWB system, it has drawn much attention especially for short-range high-speed data transmission. The UWB system has two parameters to determine its data throughput; pulse repetition frequency and slot interval. In the multi-path channel with additive white Gaussian noise, the UWB system suffers from the inter-pulse interference (IPI) and noise, which result in degradation of system performance. The UWB system can vary the two parameters to maintain and/or improve the system performance. In this paper, we demonstrate the effects of the two parameters on the data throughput of the UWB system in various multi-path indoor channels through computer simulation, and show that the variable data rate approach designed based on the observations is superior to the fixed data rate one in terms of effective throughput performance.
