  • The time synchronization method for Multi-band UWB systems is proposed. We analyze the performance in symbol synchronization using a training symbol with two identical halves. The two halves of the training symbol are made identical by transmitting a modulated sequence on the even frequencies, while zeros are used on the odd frequencies.

  • The MB-OFDM based UWB communication system is a personal area network specification aiming to provide 480Mbps peak data rate over 528 MHz spectrum. As the corresponding baseband modem operates at high clock rate, its complexity should be optimized for low power consumption. A set of modem design parameters is suggested including the AD bit width, the clipping level and the quantization level at the Viterbi decoder input as well as the trace-back depth of the Viterbi decoder. The data throughput is used to evaluate the performance of the receiver and a recommended set of design parameter values is presented to aid efficient modem implementation.

High-Robust Relaxation Oscillator with Frequency Synthesis Feature for FM-UWB Transmitters

  • A CMOS relaxation oscillator, with high robustness over process, voltage and temperature (PVT) variations, is designed in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS. The proposed oscillator, consisting of full-differential charge-discharge timing circuit and switched-capacitor based voltage-to-current conversion, could be expanded to a simple open-loop frequency synthesizer (FS) with output frequency digitally tuned. Experimental results show that the proposed oscillator conducts subcarrier generation for frequency-modulated ultra-wideband (FM-UWB) transmitters with triangular amplitude distortion less than 1%, and achieves frequency deviation less than 8% under PVT and phase noise of -112 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency. Under oscillation frequency of 10.5 MHz, the presented design has the relative FS error less than 2% for subcarrier generation and the power dissipation of 0.6 mW from a 1.8 V supply.

  • The use of a single UWB antenna which covers a wide range of frequencies is very desirable for future wireless communications system. In this paper, we propose a novel wide band printed elliptic monopole antenna for UWB(Ultra wide Band). Wideband planar monopole disc antenna have been recently studied. The proposed antenna can cover UWB frequencies from 3.5GHz to 12GHz. it is determined from 10dB return loss. The antenna consists of the printed elliptical monopole disc with microstrip-line feed. Elliptic disc of antenna and ground height operate important to matching. The results of measurement are almost similar to those of simulation.

  • In this paper we theoretically analyze the probability of error for M-ary pulse position modulation (PPM) ultra-wideband (UWB) multiple access system using Gaussian monopulse. The optimum detection of UWB signals using M-ary orthogonal PPM in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and multiple access interference (MAI) is considered, then receiver signal to noise power ratio (SNR) and upper bound fur the bit error rate (BER) are derived. Numerical results considering some practical parameters are presented.

  • In this paper modeled UWB system transmission channel in apartment environment while furniture and household electric appliance etc. existed. We measured from 10MHz to 16.01GHz by using method of CIR and CTF in both LOS and NLOS environment. Also we design channel model simulator by MATLAB. The Result of Simulation shows BER characteristics by SNR.

  • IEEE 802.15.4a의 UWB(ultra-wide band) 방식에서 PHY(physical layer) 시스템에 사용되는 FEC(forward error correction)는 RS(Reed-Solomon) 조직적(systematic) 블록 부호와 1/2의 부호율을 가진 조직적 길쌈 부호의 연접 형태로 이루어져 있다.[1] UWB 신호를 이용한 시스템은 연속적이지 않은 임펄스(impulse) 기반의 신호를 사용하기 때문에 정밀도 면에서 뛰어난 장점을 가진다. 본 논문에서는 IEEE P802.15.4a 표준에 명시되어 있는 FEC를 구현하여 AWG(adaptive white gaussian noise) 채널에서의 SNR(signal to noise ratio)에 따른 BER(bit error rate)을 구함으로써 성능을 분석하였다. 실험에서의 정확한 결과를 얻기 위해 15.4a의 UWB에서의 변조 방식에 따라 신호를 변조한 후 잡음을 삽입하여 결과를 도출하였다.

  • 이 논문은 시간도약 다중접속(time hopping multiple access: THMA) 초광대역(ultra wideband: UWB) 시스템에서 Modified Hermite Polynomial(MHP)을 기저펄스로 사용하는 M진 고속전송 기법을 제안하고, 시스템의 성능을 분석한다. MHP 펄스 차수들의 상호간 직교성을 이용하여 서로 다른 차수의 MHP 기저펄스 N개를 선형결합하여 M진으로 전송한다. MHP 기저펄스의 상호상관 함수를 구하여 제안하는 M진 시스템의 이론적인 성능을 분석하고, 모의실험을 통해서 기존의 M진 전송에 비해서 시스템의 비트오류확률(bit error rate: BER)이 개선됨을 보인다.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of ultra wide band (UWB) systems in indoor wireless channel in accordance with the number of pulses per bit at transmit signals and the decision types of receiver. The indoor channel is modeled as the modified Saleh and Valenzuela (SV) model which has been proposed as a UWB channel model by the IEEE group, IEEE 802.15.SG3a. Two types of UWB signals are considered One is the pulse position modulation-time hopping (PPM-TH) signal. And the other is the pulse amplitude modulation-direct sequence (PAM-DS) signal. It is assumed that the receiver is an ideal receiver which can receive all signals of the multipath.

  • 최근 WPAN 분야의 솔루션인 IEEE 802.15.4a는 저소비 전력으로 통신과 거리측정을 동시에 가능케 하는 PHY 제정을 목표로 하고 있다. 본 논문은 IEEE802.15.4a 물리계층에서 사용하는 UWB 신호를 대상으로 거리인식 시스템을 위한 Link Budget을 분석한다. 거리인식 시스템의 성능은 무선 채널의 다중경로 프로파일에도 관계된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 IEEE 802.15.4a 채널 특성인 Residential 및 Office 환경을 고려하여 거리인식 시스템을 위한 Link Budget을 분석하였으며 연구된 내용은 다양한 거리추정 방식에 적용하여 거리추정 정밀도 향상에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
