Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(fluorenylenevinylene-terphenylenevinylene) Containing Phenyl Pendant Group

  • Poly(fluorenylenevinylene-terphenylenevinylene) containing phenyl pendant group was synthesized by Suzuki coupling reaction and characterized by ${1}^H$-NMR, ${13}^C$-NMR, and IR-spectrum. The weight average molecular weight ($M_{w}$) of the obtained polymer was 31,000 with a polydispersity index of 1.9. The polymer showed good solubility in common organic solvents, and the solution and film emitted blue emission ($\lambda_{max}$=460 nm) on irradiation with UV light. The ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Al device fabricated using the polymer as an emitting layer emitted blue light with a maximum peak around 460 nm. The maximum efficiency of the device was 0.011$\%$.

  • 各種 아민과 할로겐化合物間의 Charge Transfer Complex 形成與否를 檢討하여 보았다. Pyridine Tridthylamine, Piperidine Ethanolamine Triethanolamine, Aniline, Diethylamine 等의 아민類와 四鹽化炭素 또는 클로로폼의 混合溶液을 n-Hexane 溶媒存在下에서 紫外線吸收 스펙트라를 檢査한 結果 장파장쪽의 Shift가 있었으며 特히 Diethylamine과 Triethylamine은 클로로폼 또는 四鹽化炭素와 1:1 Charge Transfer Complex를 形成하였고, Piperidine은 接觸的 Complex를 形成하는 것이 確認되었다. Complex의 形成경향과 아민의 Nucleophilicity와의 關係를 論議하였다.

Quantitative Determination of Salidroside and Tyrosol from the Underground Part of Rhodiola rosea by High Performance Liquid Chromatography

  • A reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatographic method was developed to determine salidroside and tyrosol simultaneously in the Rhodiola rosea. The optimum condition was Nova-pak $C_18$as stationary phase, 6.5% methanol in water as mobile phase and detection at UV 225 nm. The identification was carried out by comparing the retention time and LC/MS spectrum of the relevant peaks with those of isolated standards. The contents of salidroside and tyrosol in the samples gathered from various area in China were ranged over 1.3-11.1 ${m}g/g$ and 0.3-2.2 ${m}g/g$, respectively.

Absolute Configurations of (±)-Glabridin Enantiomers

  • Concerned with ambiguous stereochemistry assignment of natural (+)-glabridin, absolute configurations of (${\pm}$)-glabridin enantiomers were studied with synthetic glabridin. Synthetic glabridin enantiomers were separated by semi-preparative Sumi-chiral column chromatography, and characterized by UV-Vis and NMR spectroscopy. Three-dimensional molecular structure of glabridin was obtained as equatorial Ph-3 half chair chroman ring from semi-empirical PM3 calculation, and refined by coupling constants in $^1H$ NMR spectrum. Finally, absolute configurations of two enantiomers were determined by circular dichroism spectroscopy based on the empirical helicity rules. Absolute configuration of natural (+)-glabridin was confirmed as (R)-glabridin, as known.

Field Emission Characteristics a-C:F:N Film Deposited by Inductively Coupled Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition

  • Amorphous fluorocarbon (a-C:F) is of interest for low dielectric interlayer material, but in this work we applied this material to FED field emitter. N-doped a-C:F films were deposited by inductively coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition (ICPCVD). The Raman spectra were measured to study the film structure and inter-band optical absorption coefficients were measured using Perkin-Elmer UV-VIS-IR spectrophotometer and optical band gap was obtained using Tauc's plot. XPS spectrum and AFM image were investigated to study bond structure and surface morphology. Current-electric field(I-E) characteristic of the film was measured for the characterization of electron emission properties. The optimum doping concentration was found to be [N2]/[CF4]=9% in the gas phase. The turn-on field and the emission current density at $[N_2]/[CF_4]$=9% were found to be 7.34V/$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 16 $\mu\textrm{A}/\textrm{cm}^2$ at 12.8V/$\mu\textrm{m}$, respectively.

  • We report investigations on a Pentacene thin film as a component for active layer of Organic thin film transistors. Pentacene film was deposited by Organic Molecular Beam Deposition(OMBD) and Al electrode was deposoted by vacuum evaporation. Electrical characterization of Pentacene films were measured by the three-terminal contact resistance methods, as the results contact resistance between pentacene films and the Aluminium electrode is 5.064G$\Omega$. The Al contact with the pentacene shows the bottom contact resistance. From the current-voltage characteristics, electrical conductivity of the Pentacene film is found as ~ 10$^{-4}$ /cm. physical characterization of pentacene films were measured by UV-spectrum and Cyclic-Voltammetry method.

  • The synthesis and characterization of polymers for organic Metal/Insulator/Metal(MIM) devices were investigated from LB films. The physicochemical properties of the LB films were examined by UV absorption spectrum and AFM. The AFM images showed for network structure of polyurethane monolayer that the film formed an unsymmetry mesh with intermolecular interaction within the large scale. The stable images are probably due to a strong interaction between the monolayer film and Si substrate. We are unable to obtain molecular resolution in images of the films but did see a marked contrast between images of the bare substrate and those with the network structure film deposited onto it.

Synthesis and Characterization of Cobalt(II)/(III), Nickel(II) and Copper(II) Complexes of New 14, 15 and 16-Membered Macrocyclic Ligands

  • A new series of nickel(II), cobalt(II)/(III) and copper(II) complexes of 14, 15 and 16-membered of macrocyclic ligands have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-VIS and $^1H-NMR$ spectra, magnetic susceptibilities, conductivities, DTA and ESR measurements. Molar conductances in DMF solution indicate that, the complexes are nonelectrolytes except (9-12) complexes. The electronic spectra show that, all complexes are square planar or distorted octahedral geometry. The ESR spectra of solid complexes (4), (8) and (11) show square planar of axial type symmetry $(d_{x2-y2})$ with considerable covalent bond character. However, complex (12) shows a spectrum of octahedral geometry with $d_{z2}$ ground state. Complex (12) shows exploitation in reducing the amount of electron adducts formed in DNA during irradiation with low radiation products.

  • We have investigated quantitative measurement techniques of the degree of dispersion of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). SWNTs were suspended in aqueous media using a sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactant. SWNTs with different dispersion states were prepared by controlling the intensity and time of sonication and centrifugation. The laser spectroscopic techniques were employed to characterize the dispersion state; i.e., raman fluorescence and absorption spectroscopic techniques. Raman spectroscopy has been used to probe the dispersion and aggregation state of SWNTs in solution. Individually suspended SWNTs show increased fluorescence peaks and decreased roping peaks at a raman shift 267 $cm^{-1}$ compared with the samples containing bundles of SWNTs. The ultraviolet-visible-near infrared (UV-vis-NIR) absorption spectrum of decanted supernatant samples show sharp van Hove singularity peaks

Synthesis, Optical and Electrical Studies of Nonlinear Optical Crystal: L-Arginine Semi-oxalate

  • L-Arginine semi-oxalate (LASO) single crystal has been grown by solution growth technique at room temperature. The crystal structure and lattice parameters were determined for the grown crystal by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Photoluminescence studies confirm the violet fluorescence emission peak at 395 nm. Optical constants like band gap, refractive index, reflectance, extinction coefficient and electric susceptibility were determined from UV-VIS-NIR spectrum. The dielectric constant, dielectric loss and ac conductivity of the compound were calculated at different temperatures and frequencies to analyze the electrical properties. The solid state parameters such as plasma energy, Penn gap, Fermi energy and polarizability were calculated to analyze second harmonic generation (SHG). Nonlinear optical property was discussed to confirm the SHG efficiency of the grown crystal.
