The absorption spectra of synthesis of azobenzene containing long chain fatty acids were investigated by UV spectrophotometer in chloroform solution. Also, the pressure-area isotherms of the molecules on the water-air interface were obtained and the LB films were fabricated onto a quartz slides and quartz crystals by the conventional Langmuir-Blodggett(LB) method. The UV absorption spectra of Langmuir-Blodggett(LB) films on quartz slides have been measured. From these measurements, following conclusions were obtained. Azobenzene containing long chain fatty acids show a photoisomerization by irradiation of UV light and visible light alternatively. At the pressure-area isotherms, the value of surface pressure increment were decreased when the number of $C_n$ increased. Also the LB films show a photoisomerization characteristics. So the LB film of azobenzene containing long chain fatty acid has possibility to being applied to functional molecular device such as photomemory and light switching.

The absorption spectra of polyamic acid containing p-methoxyazobenzene in a mixture of N, N-dimethylacetamide(DMAC) and benzene(1:1 by volume) solution was induced photoisomerization by UV and visible light irradiation. This solution is influenced on temperature according to measure by UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. Ultra thin film of polyamic acid containing p-methoxyazobenzene was prepared on the hydrophilic quartz plate by Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method. The precursor LB film was heated in a vacuum dry oven at $120^{\circ}C$ in order to convert it into the LB film of polyimide. The absorption spectra of LB films were also induced photoisomerization by UV and visible light irradiation.

The extraction efficiency depending on the extracting methods and the conditions of extraction was investigated. The common steam extraction was compared to the distillation extraction method. The effects of the samples size and the extraction time on the extract yield were also investigated by using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. One of the functional components of pine needle extract as the natural phenol base components were detected by the UV-VIS at around 235 nm wavelength range. The absorbance intensity at around 235 nm wavelength of the pine needle extract was used as the indicator of the extraction efficiency in this experiment. The distillation extraction showed the higher extract yield than the steam extraction. The grinding treatment of pine needles also resulted in the better extract performance, but the severe grinding showed a little decrease in the extract yield especially in case of the distillation extraction method. More than half of the extract was collected at the first stage of the extraction, that was the first 15 minutes in the total 60 minutes extraction.

We describe a colorless, transparent polyimide films for plastic display substrate which should have heat resistance, roll-to-roll processability and low CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) property. Colorless polyimides were synthesized from 3,3',4,4'-oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA) 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) and diamines such as sulfonyldianiline, aminophenoxybenzene (TPE-p, TPE-q, TPE-r) and bis[4-(3-aminophen oxy)phenyl] sulfone (m-BAPS). Their optical properties were measured by UV spectrophotometer, colormeter and hazemeter. We prepared polyimide/organophilic layered silicate nanocomposite to improve dimension stability. These colorless polyimide films showed UV transmittance by the level upper $89\%$, at 440 nm and excellent optical property having the value under yellow index (YI)=7. In addition, polyimide nanocomposite films also showed an improvement of CTE value as decreased according to the amount of layered silicate contents.

This study was performed to analyze the contents of titanium dioxide in commercial foods by UV/VIS spectrophotometry. This method incorporated foods reducing to ashes, dissolution of the ash in sulfuric acid and color development using hydrogen peroxide. The UV/VIS spectrophotometric response was compared to a standard solution. The contents of titanium dioxide in commercial foods were 1.56∼7.74 g/kg in chocolate, 0.27∼1.74 g/kg in health food, 0.48∼2.96 g/kg in chewing gum and 0.34∼2.34 g/kg in candy, respectively. Recoveries of titanium dioxide in foods were 88.46∼104.75% accordingly.
Aluminum nitride(AIN) thin films were deposited by reactive single ion beam sputtering using N2 or NH3 as reactive gas. The structural, compositional and optical properties of AIN thin films were characterized by XRD, GAXRD, TEM, SEM, XPS UV/VIS spectrophotometer, and FT-IR. All the deposited AIN thin films were amorphous by the analysis fo XRD and GAXRD. However, TEM analysis showed that AIN nano-crystallites were uniformly distributed in the films. The presence of Al-N bonds were also confirmed by FT-IR and XPS analyses. The optical bandgap of AIN films increased up to 6.2 eV and the transmittance was a-bout 100% in visible range with approaching the stoichimetric composition. Irrespective of using N2 or NH3 as reactive gas, the deposited AIN thin films had very smooth surface morphologies. Their refractive index ranged from 1.6 to 1.7.

UV-thermal dually curable coating materials were prepared by the sol-gel method. Nano-sized colloidal boehmite was treated with various organo silane coupling agents. These materials could be well dispersed in various alcohols and relatively polar organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran and acetonitrile. The coating films were prepared by a spin coating method on various substrates, which were characterized by FT-IR, Si/Al CP MAS NMR spectra, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, FE-SEM, Taber abraser, haze meter, and pencil hardness tester. The effects of molar ratio and types of silane coupling agents, curing method and ion-shower treatment were investigated. Dually curable coating method offered an optimally good quality film in both hardness and transmittance. The transparency and the hardness of the prepared films were increased with amounts of 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate, and (3-glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane, respectively. The adhesion between coated layer and substrate could be enhanced by ion-shower treatment.
This study concerns UV-Vis spectrophotometry and 3D-fluorescence spectrophotometry analysis of textile parts of blue and green tones dyed with indigo of blue tone and turmeric, gardenia, goldthread and amur cork tree of yellow tone. In order to verify whether the kinds of textiles affected analysis result of each dye, silk and cotton textile samples were produced. According to the analysis of the degree of reflection of UV-Vis spectrophotometry, unique reflection spectrum of indigo appeared regardless of the kinds of textiles when they were dyed with indigo. As for textiles of green tone, the 3D-fluorescence spectroscopic analysis result showed that unique spectrums of yellow dyes, turmeric, goldthread and amur cork tree appeared regardless of the kinds of textiles but the fluorescence spectrums of gardenia and indigo did not appear.

Fluorescent whitening agent (FWA) is a widely used chemical in paper industry, but a systematic and scientific method on FWA analysis has not been established. We performed the basic researches on the fluorescence analysis of FWA. The fluorescence of FWA was investigated using a spectrofluorometer and a spectrophotometer. When FWA solution was analyzed using the spectrofluorometer, we found that the peak wavelength of the fluorescence emission was about 440 nm and that of the fluorescence excitation was about 370 nm irrespective of FWA types. Papers dyed with an internal FWA were prepared in a laboratory and the reflectance and the fluorescence index were measured using the spectrophotometer. It was confirmed that the optimum peak wavelength of the reflectance was 440 nm and the fluorescence index calculated from the CIE whiteness with and without UV light under a light source D65 was the best indicator to measure the fluorescence of FWAs exiting in papers.
One of the problems of derivatie spectrophotometry, the decrease of signal-to-noise ratio by derivative operations, was solved by three concepts of digital filtering, ensemble averaging, least squares polynomial smoothing and Fourier smoothing. The suthors made several compouter programs written in APPLE SOFT BASIC language for the actual applications of the concepts of these digital filters on UV spectrophotometer system. As a result, ensemble averaging could not be used as a routine operation for the spectrophotometer used. The maximum S/N ratio enhancement factors achieved by least squares polynomial smoothing were 6.17 and 7.47 for the spectra of Gaussian and Lorentzian distribution models, and by Fourier smoothing 16.42 and 11.78 for the spectra of two models, respectively.
