PEGDMA를 이용한 PEO 필름의 광가교 (Photocrosslinking of PEO Films Using PEGDMA)

  • Poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) of molecular weight of 300,000 was crosslinked by UV irradiation in the presence of crosslinker. The photochemical crosslinking of PEO was enhanced by the addition of dimethacrylate crosslinkers in the film. Percent conversion of the polymer into gel as well as water absorbency were investigated gravimetrically. Gel fraction of PEO films increased with increasing crosslinker concentration. In the case of photocrosslinked PEO films with benzophenone, gel fraction reached about 95%. The thermal behavior of crosslinked PEO films was characterized by thermogravimetric analysis. The maximum decomposition temperature increased with increasing crosslinker concentration.

Investigations on ionic polymer actuators based on irradiation-crosslinked sulfonated poly(styrene-ran-ethylene)

  • The ion-exchange membrane, Nafion, remains as the benchmark for a majority of research and development in IPMC technology. In this research, we employed a novel ionomer named by sulfonated poly(styrene-ran-ethylene) (SPSE) that is crosslinked by UV irradiation. The sulfonic acid groups were stable during the UV irradiation crosslinking process. Water uptake, ion exchange capacity, and proton conductivity are characterized for both pure SPSE and crosslinked SPSE membrane. The bending responses of SPSE actuators under both direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) excitations were investigated. The voltage-current behaviors of the actuators under AC excitations are also measured. Results showed the crosslinked SPSE actuators have better electromechanical performance than that of pure SPSE actuator with regard to tip displacement as a novel smart material.

Preparation and Characterization of Ophthalmic Hydrophilic Silicone Lens Containing Zinc Oxide and Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

  • This study uses silicone monomer, DMA, crosslinking agent EGDMA, and initiator AIBN as a basic combination to prepare hydrogel lenses using fluorine-based perfluoro polyether and iron oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles as additives. After manufacturing the lens using iron oxide nanoparticles and zinc oxide nanoparticles, the optical, physical properties, and polymerization stability are evaluated to investigate the possibility of application as a functional hydrogel lens material. As a result of this experiment, it is found that the addition of the wetting material containing fluorine changes the surface energy of the produced hydrogel lens, thereby improving the wettability. Also, the addition of iron oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles satisfies the basic hydrogel ophthalmic lens properties and slightly increases the UV blocking performance; it also increases the tensile strength by improving the durability of the hydrogel lens. The polymerization stability of the nanoparticles evaluated through the eluate test is found to be excellent. Therefore, it is judged that these materials can be used in various conditions as high functional hydrogel lens material.

가교 반응이 가능한 말단 무수물을 이용한 무색투명한 폴리이미드 필름 (Colorless and Transparent Polyimide Films from Poly(amic acid)s with Cross-linkable Anhydride End)

  • 4,4'-(Hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride(6FDA)와 bis[4-(3-amino phenoxy)phenyl] sulfone(BAPS)의 조성에 cis-4-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride(CDBA)를 다양한 몰%로 사용하여 사슬 말단에 가교 반응이 된 폴리이미드(PI)를 얻었다. Grubbs 촉매 0.1 wt%를 사용하여 가교된 폴리아믹산(poly(amic acid), PAA)을 합성한 후에 PAA를 다양한 온도에서 열처리를 통해 가교된 PI 필름을 합성하였다. 제조된 필름의 열적-기계적 성질은 퓨리에 변환 적외선 분광기(FTIR), 시차주사 열량계(DSC), 열중량 분석기(TGA), 열기계 분석기(TMA), 만능인장 시험기(UTM) 등을 사용하여 측정하였고, 색차계(spectrophotometer)와 자외선-가시광선 흡광도기(UV-Vis. spectrometer)를 이용하여 광학적 특성을 확인하였다. CDBA의 몰%가 증가함에 따라 열적 기계적 성질은 증가하였지만 광학적 투명도는 이와는 반대로 감소하였다.

  • 분자내 전하이동(intramolecular charge transfer, ICT)이 가능한 도너-$\pi$-억셉터(D-$\pi$-A)타입의 발색단 을 근간으로 한 폴리머를 신규 합성하였다. 이 폴리머는 UV-visible spectra 측정결과 용액 상태에서 뿐만 아니라 고체박막 상태에서도 카르보닐기(carbonyl group)에서 기인하는 흡수와 함께 ICT에 의한 장파장 영역에서의 흡수가 관 찰되었다. $Eu^{3+}$ 이온의 첨가에 의해 장파장영역에서 일어나는 흡수의 적색이동(red shift)을 유도하였으며, 더불어 용 액과 박막의 색상도 황색에서 적색으로 변화하는 것이 관찰되었다. 합성된 고분자의 형태 및 유기 용매에 대한 용해도 는 가교제의 함량에 따라 다양한 특성을 나타내었다. 또한, 첨가된 가교제의 함량과 $Eu^{3+}$ 이온의 첨가는 성막 특성의 향상을 유도하였다.

Polarizing Group Attached Acrylates and Polymers Viewing High Refractive Index

  • We designed and successfully synthesized UV curable, functional acrylate monomers having a polarizing group, i.e., an electron-withdrawing and/or electron-donating group for the optical materials of high refractive index. Optical polymer films made from the functional methacrylate monomers were achieved with photo crosslinking under UV illumination. A monomer having amino and cyano groups (Dimer-CN) exhibited the highest refractive index ($n_{TE}$=1.595 at 850nm) among the studied methacrylate derivatives, due to the large polarizability of the dipolar monomer structures with electron-donating and withdrawing groups. By controlling the compositions of the functional acrylate monomer of copolymers, the refractive indices of the polymers were readily adjusted within a wide range of 1.498-1.595. The copolymers showed a high glass transition temperature $(T_g)$ and good thermal stability, which are desirable for optical applications. $T_g$ and $T_{10%}$ (10%-weight loss occurred) of the copolymers ranged from $120-140^{\circ}C$ and from $329-387^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Type I Atelocollagen의 가교형성비 분석 (Crosslinking Ratio Analysis of Type I Atelocollagen)

  • To utilize collagen as an implantable biomateriall the mcct widely used bovine skin origin Type I collagen was investigated Pepsin treated, Type I atelocollagen was extracted and crosslinked by the ultraviolet(W) ray with wavelength of 254nm or by various concentrations of glutaraldehyde to produce collagen membranes. The crosslink rates of the specimens were observed by a polarized light microscope, a scanning electron microscope, and a Fourier transform infrared (FT-lR) spectrometer. The followings are concluded 1. The collagen membranes produced by both 2.5% glutaraldehyde solution and 254nm UV ray irra- diation demonstrated similar morphologies on polarized light microscopic and scanning electron microscopic views. 2. The chemical structures of the crosslinked membranes by glutaraldehyde over 2.5% in concentrations revealed similar intensities to that of the UV ray irradiated one in FT-lR investigation. 3. To obtain optimal croulink in bovine stalin origin Type I atelocollagen, 2.5% glutaraldehyde solution or UV ray irradiation with 254nm wavelength is acceptable.

PREVENTION OF HYDROXYL RADICAL-INDUCED ERYTHROCYTE HEMOLYSIS BY PROTEIN THIOLS

  • A system for studying oxidative hemolysis has been used by controling UV-irradiation and concentration of a novel molecular probe, N,N'-bis(2-hydroperoxy-2-methoxyethyl)-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetra-carboxylic diimide (NP-III), which generates hydroxyl radical upon longer wavelength photoirradiation (> 350 nm). NP-III induces 25~30% of hemolysis at low concentration (50 $\mu$M) for 3h-irradiation of UVA. The simultaneous treatment of N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) with NP-IH completely hemotyzed erythrocytes under the same conditions as NP-III alone by both decreasing thiol group and increasing lipid peroxidation in erythrocyte membrane. However. thiol-reducing agents prevented the protein-crosslinking and lipid peroxidation on the NEM-synergistic hemolysis by partially scavenging hydroxyl radical and maintaining the thiol group of erythrocyte membrane in the reduced state. In addition, erythrocytes pretreated with 2,2,5,7,8-pentamethyl-6-hydroxychromane (PMC), vitamin E homologue was able to delay and decrease the lipid peroxidation when compared to cells pretreated with both NEM and PMC. We suggest that the presence of reduced thiols in inner membrane protein by GSH can prevent the protein-crosslinking and the lipid peroxidation, and eventually prevent the oxidative hemolysis of erythrocyte.

이온토포레시스를 이용한 케토프로펜의 경피전달 (Iontophoretic Transport of Ketoprofen)

  • We have studied the effect of polarity, current density, current duration, crosslinking density, swelling ratio, and permeation enhancers on the transdermal flux of ketoprofen from acrylamide hydrogel. Hydrogel was prepared by free radical crosslinking polymerization of acrylamide. Drug loading was made just before transport experiment by soaking the hydrogel in solution containing drug. In vitro flux study using hairless mouse skin was performed at $36.5^{\circ}C$ using side-by-side diffusion cell, and the drug was analysed using HPLC/UV system. The result showed that, compared to passive flux, the total amount of drug transported increased about 18 folds by the application of $0.4\;mA/cm^2$ cathodal current. Anodal delivery with same current density also increased the total amount of drug transported about 13 folds. It seemed that the increase in flux was due to the electrorepulsion and the increase in passive permeability of the skin by the current application. Flux increased as current density, the duration of current application and loading amount (swelling duration) increased. As the cross linking density of the hydrogel increased, flux clearly decreased. The effect of hydrophilic enhancers (urea, N-methyl pyrrolidone, Tween 20) and some hydrophobic enhancers (propylene glycol monolaurate and isopropyl myristate) was minimal. However, about 3 folds increase in flux was observed when 5% oleic acid was used. Overall, these results provide some useful information on the design of an optimized iontophoretic delivery system of ketoprofen.

코팅제의 가교 밀도에 따른 고무와 코팅원단의 물성 변화 (Properties of Rubbers and Coated Fabrics according to Different Cross-linking Density of Coating Agent)

  • Silicone rubber is widely used in most industries due to diverse advantages like heat stability, UV stability, durability, chemical resistance, environment friendliness, inertness and so on. But there is limitation to expand applications due to relatively weak rubber strengths such as tensile strength and tear strength, especially in fabric coating applications. The purpose of this study is to find influence of coating agent on performances of rubber and coated fabrics and their correlation according to different crosslinking densities of silicone rubbers. Addition cure type of silicones were formulated using crosslinked MQ-type silicone resin consisting of M (R3SiO1/2) and Q (SiO4/2) and linear polymers. Raw materials used were; 1) linear vinyl endblocked polymers and vinyl functional MQ resin as main polymers, 2) linear silicone hydride polymers as crosslinkers, 3) platinum catalyst and 4) inhibitor to control curing speed. Rubber specimens were prepared to check mechanical strength using universal testing machine (UTM). Crosslinking density was calculated using Flory-Rhener equation using solvent swelling method. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDS) were used to characterize rubbers. Consequently, it was found that physical properties of silicone rubbers and coated fabrics can be expected by crosslinking density of rubbers. Silicone rubber formulations that contain 20 ~ 30 wt% of vinyl MQ resin showed strongest balanced performances.
