  • With increasing interests in environment matters over the world, incessant efforts to develop products which meet these environmental requirements have been made also in paint industry. Among the efforts in this field, UV(Ultra Violet) curing system is focused as one of most potential system. It is because this system not only proved to be environmentally friendly compared with heat curing system or other system but also has economical merit of smaller facility, less energy consumption, and better productivity. Superior properties in many application is surely one of its dominant merit. With these advantage UV system is applied to a variety of industrial fields and expected to have continuous growth in the future. As practical application of UV system has shown lasting progress, R&D on basic material of this system keeps up with. This is a study on photo-initiator that is a fundamental substance in UV curing method and amine, its aid for better effect. After reviewing on them in the aspects of function, economy, and stability, optimal foumula is pursued through experiments when applied to real products.

  • UV curing technology becomes important in various sectors of applications due to the high efficiency, environmental protection and saving energy. Above all, It is necessary to consider the formulation of glass fiber sizes in some detail to achieve this study since they are governed by the products to be made and their performance in the composites made form them. The effect of glass fiber sizes against UV curing system was investigated by the method of changing size formulation. Nanosil 700 was used in order to increase curing efficiency. Yellow effect was not observed at the 1% fiber sizer content.

  • Shape memory materials are widely used in high-tech industries. Although shape memory polymers have been developed, they have a disadvantage, only unidirectional resilience. Shape memory polymers with bi-directional recovery resilience have been actively studied. In this study, a bidirectional shape memory polyurethane was synthesized using poly(${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) diol, methylene dicyclohexyl diisocyanate, and hydroxyethyl acrylate. The first physical curing occurred between hard segments and hydrogen bondings when the solution was dried. The second curing in acrylate groups was performed by UV exposure. A degree of curing was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy. The shape memory properties of 2 step-cured polyurethanes were investigated as a function of UV curing time.

UV경화에 의한 폴리우레탄/유기화클레이 나노복합재료 제조와 물성 연구 (Preparation and Characterization of Polyurethane/Organoclay Nanocomposites by UV Curing)

  • UV 경화형 우레탄아크릴레이트 수지와 유기화클레이를 혼합한 후 UV를 조사하여 경화시킴으로써 폴리우레탄-클레이 나노복합체를 제조하였다. 유기화클레이로서는 Closite20A (C20A) 및 이를 실란처리하여 표면에 아크릴기를 도입한 아크릴변성 C20A를 사용하였다. XRD와 TEM 분석으로부터 제조된 나노복합체는 삽입형 나노복합체이며, 아크릴 변성시킨 C20A가 변성시키지 않은 C20A에 비해 더 잘 분산되는 것을 알 수 있었다. DMTA, 연필경도분석, PET 필름에의 부착성 시험으로부터 클레이 첨가에 의해 유리전이온도와 저장탄성률 및 연필경도가 증가하고 PET 필름에의 부착성이 향상되며, 이러한 물리적 특성의 증가는 아크릴 변성시킨 C20A를 함유한 나노복합체에서 더 크게 발현됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 클레이 첨가에 의해 UV경화 시 수반되는 수축을 저하시킬 수 있음을 알았다. 한편, 제조된 나노복합체는 우수한 광투과도를 나타내었으나, 광택도는 나노입자를 함유하지 않은 경우에 비해 다소 저하되었다.

  • In this work the novel potential epoxy resins, were synthesized and acrylated. Their structures were confirmed by means of FTIR, $^1H NMR, and^{13}/C NMR$ spectroscopies. Also, we were to note the effect of W curing on functional group changes of VE/UP blend system after UV curing.

Cure real monitering sensor for UV curable thin epoxy film based on side-polished single mode fiber

  • A novel cure sensor based on the side-polished single mode fiber has been proposed and demonstrated. Two different UV curable epoxies were used to verify the feasibility of the side-polished single mode fiber as a high sensitivity cure sensor. The volume change of the epoxy by UV curing results in a corresponding change of the refractive index. The sensor can be used to monitor the curing process, the refractive index variation and the volume change of epoxy in real time during the UV curing process. In addition, small birefringence of the epoxy film can be detected using the sensor.

Olefin Metathesis를 이용한 황칠 Essential Oil의 경화 반응에 관한 연구 (Olefin Metathesis Curing Reaction of Essential Oils in Korean Dendropanax Lacquer)

  • 황칠원액을 에탄올로 추출한 황칠의 essential oil을 올레핀 메타테시스(olefin metathesis) 반응의 하나인 ROMP(ring opening metathesis polymerization)법을 이용하여 경화 반응을 수행하였으며, 자연 경화 및 UV 광경화법의 경화 특성 및 경화된 필름의 물성에 대해서 비교 연구하였다. 경화 전후의 황칠의 조성 변화에 대해서 가스 크로마토그래피 질량분석법(GC-MS, gas chromatography mass spectrometry)을 통해 연구하였으며, ROMP법에 의해 경화된 필름의 겔 함량(gel contents, 40%)은 자연 경화(8%)나 UV 광경화법(25%)에 비해 높은 값을 보여주었다. $100^{\circ}C$의 온도 및 2 wt%의 Grubbs' catalyst 조건에서 ROMP 경화반응은 2 h 이내의 경화 반응이 완료되어 자연 경화에 비해 비교적 빠른 경화 속도를 보여주었으며, UV 광경화법에 비해 주름이 없으며 외관상 균일한 도막이 형성됨을 확인하였다. 또한 기존에 경화반응에 참여하는 것으로 알려져 있는 폴리아세틸렌계 성분 이외에 sesquiterpene류인 ${\alpha}$-selinene, ${\beta}$-selinene, ${\delta}$-cadinene 등도 ROMP 경화 반응에 참여함을 확인하였다.

  • Polymer dispersed liquid crystal mode can be classified into two cases, normally scattering mode (NS) and normally transparent (NT) mode according to an initial state. Electro-optic characteristic NS/NT PDLC mode can be improved by controlling the factors to influence the phase separation. In case of NS PDLC mode, we inspected change of a phase separation as a function of curing temperature for the mixture of E7 and NOA65 with different ratios. When the LC concentration is less than polymer such as LC : NOA65 = 40 : 60wt%, the PDLC cell is influenced strongly by the curing temperature. However, when LC concentration is much less than polymer such as LC : NOA65 : 80 : 20wt%, it is influenced slightly by the curing temperature. In case of NT PDLC mode, we observed change of a phase separation as a function of the ratio of the mixture and UV conditions such as curing temperature, UV intensity The cell made with strong UV intensity and curing temperature of $20^{\circ}C$, in case that the ratio of LC to polymer is 70:30wt%, showed good electro-optic characteristics.

UV 경화형 우레탄 아크릴레이트/MMT 나노복합체의 기계적 성질과 내흡수성에 대한 광개시제의 영향 (Effect of Photoinitiator System on Mechanical Properties and Water Sorption Behavior of Urethane Acrylate/MMT Nanocomposite by UV Radiation Curing)

  • 우레탄 아크릴레이트에 montmorillonite(MMT)를 첨가한 UV 경화형 나노복합체 제조 시 사용하는 광개시제의 종류에 따른 기계적 성질 및 내흡수성을 조사하였다. 1 wt%의 MMT가 첨가될 경우 가장 우수한 인장강도와 내흡수성을 나타내었으며, 광개시제의 경우 기존의 benzyldimethylketal 계열 광개시제와 bisacyl phosphine oxide 계열의 광개시제를 함께 사용할 경우 3 wt%의 MMT 함량에서도 사용된 UV 램프의 방출 파장대인 340~450 nm에서의 광흡수가 강화되어 나노복합체의 경화거동에 보다 효과적인 것으로 확인되었다.
