A constant desire has been to fabricate nanopatterns for biochip and the Ultraviolet-nano imprint lithography (UV-NIL) is promising technology especially compared with thermal type in view of cost effectiveness. By using this method, nano-scale to micro-scale structures also called nanopore structures can be fabricated on large scale gold plate at normal conditions such as room temperature or low pressure which is not possible in thermal type lithography. One of the most important methods in fabricating biochips, immobilizing, was processed successfully by using this technology. That means immobilizing proteins only on the nanopore structures based on gold, not on hardened resin by UV is now possible by utilizing this method. So this selective nano-patterning process of protein can be useful method fabricating nanoscale protein chip.

Micro features on the surface are well-known to have significant effects on optical or mechanical properties such as the optical interference, reflectance at the surface, contact angle, interfacial friction, etc. These surface micro features are increasingly employed to enhance the functionality of the applications in various application areas such as optical components for LCD or solar panel. Diverse surface features have been proposed and some of them are showing excellent efficiency or functionality, especially in optical applications. Most applications employing the micro features need manufacturing process for mass production and the injection molding and roll-to-roll forming, which are typical processes for mass production adopting polymeric materials, may be also preferred for micro patterned plastic product. Since the functionality or efficiency of the surface structures generally depends on the shape and the size of the structure itself or the array of the structures on the surface, it would be very important to replicate the features very precisely as being designed during the molding the micro pattern applications. In this paper, a series of research activities is introduced for roll-to-roll forming of micro patterned film including filling of patterns with UV curable resin, demolding of surface structures from the roll tool, control of surface energy and cure shrinkage of resin and dispose time and intensity of the UV light for curing of UV curable resin.

This work deals with the effects of different oligomers, monomers, photoinitiators, and steel plates on the variation of gloss for UV coated steel plates at $20^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ (ASTM D523). The gloss value was more significantly varied with $20^{\circ}$ angle as compared with $60^{\circ}$. No substantial change in gloss was observed for the type of single oligomer; however, the gloss varied with the mixing ratios of oligomers, type and mixing ratio of monomers, type and concentration of photoinitiator, and type of steel plate. The maximum gloss value was observed when the mixing ratio of polyurethane acrylate (UA) to epoxy acrylate (EA) was 70 : 30, the mixing ratio of trimethylolpropantriacrylate (TMPTA) to tetrahydrofurfurylacrylate (THFA) was 5 : 5, the content of the mixed oligomer (UA : EA = 70 : 30) was 90 wt%, respectively. Darocur MBF of liquid type showed better gloss property than the solid type of Irgacure 184, and the gloss was decreased as the concentration of Darocur MBF increased from 1 to 4 wt%. Regarding the type of steel plate, GI steel plate showed better gloss property as compared with EG and primer-coated steel plates. The maximum gloss values of 95 GU and 120 GU, respectively, at $20^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ angles throughout the parametric study in the absence of leveling agents enhancing the gloss.
UV-cured acrylic copolymer pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) having different amounts of crosslinking agents were prepared and adhesion properties were investigated. 0.01 wt% of MMT clay was dispersed in 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA)/acrylic acid (AA) monomer mixture containing 0, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.3 wt% 1,6-hexandiol diacrylate (HDDA) for crosslinking. It was investigated that the curing behavior and surface chemistry of PSAs were merely affected by the presence of MMT clays. On the other hand, adhesive properties were influenced by the MMT addition; a cohesive failure was restrained due to improved molecular elasticity even in uncrosslinked acrylic PSAs. However, it was also appeared that combination of 0.3 wt% crosslinking agent and MMT loading might result in the damage of adhesion properties of PSAs possibly due to the lack of chain flexibility. In our studies, it is suggested that the 2-EHA/AA PSAs incorporating 0.01 wt% of MMT and crosslinked with 0.05 wt% of HDDA exhibited the balanced adhesion properties without severe cohesive failure during strip.
We fabricated a polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) cell using LC with negative dielectric anisotropy and UV curable monomer exhibiting transparent state initially (called normally transparent (NT)) and studied the electro-optic characteristics. The NT PDLC cell made with the ratio of LC : monomer = 70/30 wt%, curing temperature of 20 $^{\circ}C$ and strong UV intensity of 198 ㎽/$\textrm{cm}^2$ had high contrast ratio and showed good electro-optic characteristics. In this condition, LC is aligned vertically on the substrate due to the vertical alignment layer and the polymer made with the UV exposure does not influence the alignment of the LC much. Therefore, the transmittance at the zero voltage is very high and the scattering state of the cell is good after applying the voltage because LC with negative dielectric anisotropy tries to align perpendicular to the field. And also, the NT PDLC cell showed better viewing angle characteristics than that in the normally scattering (NS) PDLC.

This paper introduces the use of a crown-shaped (CR) lens to effectively diffuse the light from a light-emitting diode (LED) without any loss in the light intensity, in contrast to polymer-bulb-type diffusers. The diffusion lens was designed based on the Snell's law, which describes the physical path of a ray passing through the boundary between different media. CR lenses were fabricated by polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) casting and UV-embossing processes, which used a pre-designed metal mold and UV-curable resin, respectively. Through experiments and optical evaluations, it was verified that the newly proposed CR lens not only decreased the vertical light strength and glare effect from an LED light source but also improved the diffusion characteristics while maintaining the quality of the LED's light intensity.
Polyurethane modified acrylate $(PUA)/SiO_2$ hybrid films were prepared by ultraviolet curing and their surface properties were investigated by hardness and adhesion test. The films were examined by the manipulation of mole-ratio of organic to inorganic components. Under the silica content controlled, highly desirable films were achieved and scratch resistance and hardness property of film were also enhanced, which indicates that the crosslinked silica particles are homogeneously dispersed within PUA film.

Micro-stereolithography technology has made it possible to fabricate a freeform 3D microslructure. This technology is based on conventional stereolithography, in which a UV laser beam irradiates the open surface of a UV-curable liquid photopolymer, causing it to solidify. In micro-stereolithography, a laser beam of a few $\mu m$ diameter is used to solidify a very small area of the photopolymer. This is one of the key technological elements, and can be achieved by using a focusing lens. Thus, the solidification phenomena of the liquid photopolymer must be carefully investigated. In this study, the photopolymer solidification phenomena in response to variations in the scanning pitch of a focused laser beam was investigated experimentally. The effect of layer thickness on the solidification width and depth was also examined. These studies were conducted under the conditions of relatively lower laser power and relatively higher scanning speed. Moreover, the photopolymer solidification phenomena for the relatively higher laser power and lower scanning speed was investigated, too. In this case, comparing to the case of lower laser power and higher scanning speed, the photopolymer absorbed large amount of irradiation energy of the laser beam. These results were compared with those obtained from a photopolymer solidification model. From these results, a new laser-scanning scheme was proposed according to the shape of the 3D model. Samples by each method were fabricated successfully.
Large amount of formaldehyde could be released inevitably during the flame-retardant (FR) treatments or from the finished fabrics using Provatex reagent and Proban polymers which have been used as durable FRs for cotton. A water-soluble cyclophosphazene derivative was synthesized as an ecofriendly phosphorus-based FR for cotton fibers. Dichloro tetrakis{N-[3-(Dimethylamino)propyl]methacrylamido} cyclcophosphazene (DCTDCP) was synthesized through the substiutution reaction of Hexachloro cyclophosphazene and N-[3-(Dimethylamino)propyl] methacrylamide at a mole ratio of 1 : 4, which can be cured dually by both alkaline treatment and UV irradiation. More crosslinked networks were produced through the addition of Triacryloyl hexahydrotriazine and Acrylamide as a UV-curable crosslinker and a comonomer respectively. Both flame retardancy and washing durability of the FR cotton were improved synergistically. The durability improvement may be caused by the covalent bond formation of the FR with cellulose and the high degree of polymerization of DCTDCP, which can be verified by the pyrolysis and combustion behaviors analyzed by LOI, TGA, and microcalorimeter.

This study presents a roll-to-roll process which is capable of Ag nanowire (AgNW) transfer from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film to polycarbonate (PC) film. We developed a roll-to-roll machine that consists of two film suppliers, a coater of photo-curable resin, a film laminator, an ultraviolet (UV) exposure unit, and a film winder to facilitate large-area electrode transfer between different flexible substates. Using the process, optimal fabrication condition was investigated by parametric experiments in terms of the UV exposure time, number of thermal cycling, and exposure time of high temperature and humidity. A fabricated AgNW on PC film showed sheet resistance of 52 Ω/sq and optical transmittance of approximately 80 % over a range of visible light.
