In this study, N doped $TiO_2$ (TiO-N) thin film was prepared by DC magnetron sputtering method to show the photocatalytic activity in a visible range. Various gases (Ar, $O_2\;and\;N_2$) were used and Ti target was impressed by 1.2 kW -5.8 kW power range. The hysteresis of TiO-N thin film as a function of discharge voltage wasn't observed in 1.2 and 2.9kW of applied power. Cross sections and surfaces of thin films by FE-SEM were tiny and dense particle sizes of both films with normal cylindrical structures. XRD pattern of $TiO_2$ and TiO-N thin films was appeared by only anatase peak. Red shift in UV-Vis adsorption spectra was investigated TiO-N thin film. Photoactivity was evaluated by removal rate measurement of suncion yellow among reactive dyes. The photodegradation rate of $TiO_2$ thin film on visible radiation was shown little efficiency but TiO-N was about 18%.

$TiO_2$ possesses great photocatalytic properties but absorbs only UV light owing to high band gap energy (Eg = 3.2 eV). By narrowing the band gap through doping a metal ion, the photocatalytic activity can be enhanced in condition of the light of a higher than 365 nm wavelength. Main purpose for this study is to evaluate the activities of metal doped $TiO_2$ for degrading the volatile organic compounds (VOCs); p-xylene is chosen in the VOC removal test. Vanadium is selected in this study because an ionic radius of vanadium is almost the same as titanium ion and vanadium can be easily doped into $TiO_2$. V-doped $TiO_2$ was synthesized by sol-gel methods and compared with pure $TiO_2$. Pure TiO2 powder and V-doped $TiO_2$ powder were coated on glasses by spray coating method. UV-Visible spectrophotometer was used for the measurement of the band gap changes. VOC concentration degradation level was tested with using various UV light sources in an enclosed chamber. Catalytic activities of prepared samples were evaluated based on the experimental results and compared with coated pure $TiO_2$ sample.

In recent years, rapid technological advances in the textile and dyeing industry have yielded benefits to society but have also generated new and significant environmental problems. The treatment alternatives applicable for the removal of color vary, depending upon the type of dye wastewater Advanced oxidation processes are considered to provide more permanent merits. One of these oxidation treatments attracting much attention is photocatalytic oxidation, which uses TiO$_2$ due to its non-toxic, insoluble liquid as well as a highly reactive nature under UV irradiation. This study sets out to demonstrate the effect of photocatalyst dosage, dye concentrations, pH and light intensity on color removal efficiency under aerobic conditions. The results of this study show Rhodamine B(RhB) was not decolorized when a dye solution was exposed only to air or treated by TiO$_2$ only In the presence of both TiO$_2$ and UV light, however, the presence of RhB decreased up to 95 % within 60minutes. The more addition TiO$_2$ and the more diluted dye solution, showed a higher removal rate.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of several chemical treatments to prevent photodegradation of wood veneer by external UV (Ultraviolet) light. Of woods, walnut veneer is selected as a raw material for this study since it is known as a luxurious wood with dark color giving an esthetic effect. Alcohol-benzene, hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) and sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) solution were used for investigate the effect on color stabilization. Despite the removal of the extractive compounds, which is known as a discoloration component, a significant color change of walnut wood veneer was observed. Meanwhile, the veneers treated by 20 and 30% $H_2O_2$ solution at $75^{\circ}C$ for 1 h also showed the no positive effect of color stability exposed to UV light although they have a bleaching effect on wood veneer. Besides, it was difficult to maintain the original color of walnut veneer due to the elution of the extractive compounds. On the other hands, the veneer treated by NaClO solution indicated the good performance on color stability despite of the intensive UV light test. However, when the concentration exceeds 3%, surface roughness and fiber damage occurred simultaneously. Therefore, the walnut species should be treated with proper concentration when sodium hypochlorite is applied to the veneer.

In this study, the photocatalysed degradation of safranin-O was investigated using Au colloids. Au metal nanoparticle wasused to eliminate safranin-O fast in solution. Au nanoparticles were prepared reduction method using $Na_2CO_3$ and PVP in aqueous solution. The degradation of safranin-O was examined using a variety of condition such as concentration of Au colloid or Au salt, reaction pH, and reaction time in the presence of UV light and $H_2O_2$. As the concentration of Au colloid increases, the rate of dye degradation increases. The photo-oxidation of the safranin-O was monitored spectrophotometrically. The properties of Au nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy. In addition, catalytic capacities of Au nanoparticles were also determined by UV-Vis spectroscopy.

Wood has always been used for various day-to-day applications such as interior or exterior construction materials, and household products. However, it can undergo photodegradation and discoloration by environmental factors including ultraviolet (UV) light, and thus has shortened its service life. Bleaching or delignification of wood surfaces is a suitable solution to stabilize wood against weathering by UV because these techniques can alter or remove the chromophores in lignin, which is a main factor of wood discoloration. To improve the color stability of wood surface according to the lifespan, surface delignification was conducted using peracetic acid (PAA) and hydrogen peroxide (HP) on the woods of Larix kaempferi and Quercus mongolica. After the PAA treatment, L* increased considerably from 60-70 to 90-95. Furthermore, wood surface color did not change significantly after UV exposure. The color differences (𝜟E*) between before and after PPA treatment of wood showed the 4.8-12.2 of L. kaempferi, and 1.7-3.7 of Q. mongolica, respectively. The lignin-related peaks in Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) spectra disappeared with increased duration of PAA treatment. These results confirmed that the lignin component was partially or completely removed after the PAA treatment; the color differences (𝜟E*) clearly showed that there was a reduction in redness (a*) and yellowness (b*), and an increase in lightness (L*) owing to the removal of lignin. Based on these results, this study demonstrated that the partial removal of lignin from wood surfaces is a fundamental method for resolving photo-degradation.
Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) composites with various graphite oxide (GO) contents (0 to 10 wt%) were prepared by sonicating the mixture of PVA and GO, followed by crosslinking with glutaraldehyde. GO was pre-treated with oxyfluorination ($O_2:F_2$ = 8:2) in order to modify the surface of GO to allow it to carry hydrophilic functional groups. PVA/GO composite hydrogels were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR). The morphology of the PVA/GO composite hydrogels and the variations in soluble gel portion were investigated under various GO contents and UV irradiation doses. The variation in the chemical structure of photo degraded PVA/GO composite hydrogels was studied by FT-IR. The photochemical stability of PVA/GO composite hydrogels under UV irradiation was found to improve noticeably with increasing content of uniformly dispersed GO.
This study was progressed in photocatalysis of VOCs using $UV/TiO_2$ which was a benign process environmentally. The experiments were peformed to know photodegradation characteristics as crystalline structure of $TiO_2$ which had anatase, rutile and P-25 (anatase : rutile = 70 : 30). The main purpose of this study was to identify photocatalytic characteristics as inlet concentration of reactants, $H_2O$, and residence time. The inlet concentration of VOCs was changed 50, 100 and 200 ppmv, and amount of $H_2O$ was changed 0, 500 and $1000{\;}mg/m^3$, respectively. The deep conversion was increased as the inlet concentration decreased, and the amount of $H_2O$ increased. The deep conversion of benzene had the highest value at $1000{\;}mg/m^3${\;}H_2O$ and 50 ppmv of inlet concentration. The reactivity of reactants was decreased in order benzene > toluene > m-xylene. Also, the photocatalytic deep conversion was increased as residence time increased, because the contact time between reactants and catalyst was increased. In this study, intermediates had not found by GC/MSD analysis. Therefore, the reactants were completely converted to $H_2O{\;}and{\;}CO_2$.

A CNT-$TiO_2$ nano composite was prepared from titanium chloride ($TiCl_4$) via sol-gel process using multi walled carbon nano tube (MWCNT) followed by calcination at $450^{\circ}C$. Spectral analysis revealed that the formed $TiO_2$ resided on the carbon in anatase form. The effect of adsorption was investigated using aqueous solution of methylene blue and procion blue dye. The photochemical reaction of CNT-$TiO_2$ composite in aqueous suspensions was studied under UV illumination in batch process. The reaction was investigated by monitoring the discoloration of the dyes employing UV-Visible spectro-photometeric technique as a function of irradiation time. The catalyst composites were found to be efficient for the photodegradation of the dye.
Wastewaters of textile industry cause high volume colour and harmful substance pollutions. Photocatalytic degradation is a method which gives opportunity of reduction of organic pollutants such as dye containing wastewaters. In this study, photocatalytic degradation of C.I. Basic Yellow 28 (BY28) as a model dye contaminant was carried out using Degussa P25 in a photocatalytic reactor. The experiments were followed out at three different azo dye concentrations in a reactor equipped UV-A lamp (365 nm) as a light source. Azo dye removal efficiencies were examined with total organic carbon and UV-vis measurements. As a result of experiments, maximum degradation efficiency was obtained as 100% at BY28 concentration of $50mgL^{-1}$ for the reaction time of 2.5 h. The photodegradation of BY28 was described by a pseudo-first-order kinetic model modified with the langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism. The adsorption equilibrium constant and the rate constant of the surface reaction were calculated as $K_{dye}=6.689{\cdot}10^{-2}L\;mg^{-1}$ and $k_c=0.599mg\;L^{-1}min^{-1}$, respectively.
