자외선-C 발광 YPO4:Pr3+ 분말제조 및 YPO4:Pr3+-PVDF 전계 발광소자 특성 연구 (Fabrication of UV-C Emitting YPO4:Pr3+ Powder and Properties of YPO4:Pr3+-PVDF Electroluminescence Device)

  • The ultraviolet-C emitting praseodymium doped yttrium phosphate (YPO4:Pr3+) powder was synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction. The electroluminescence device was fabricated by simple screen-printing method using the synthesized YPO4:Pr3+ powder, especially, polyvinylidene fluoride as an insulating layer was applied on the printed YPO4:Pr3+ powder for stable performance of the electroluminescence. The electroluminescence properties were investigated under alternating current power system of 400 Hz. The device starts to emit at 350 V, which showed the ultraviolet-C emission peaking at the 233, 245, 264, 273 nm attributed to electronic transition of the Pr3+ ions. The electroluminescence intensity was increased as increasing the operating voltage and the device revealed stable performance up to 600 V due to the polyvinylidene fluoride serve as a protective layer.

Antioxidant and Antimelanogenic Activities of Kimchi-Derived Limosilactobacillus fermentum JNU532 in B16F10 Melanoma Cells

  • Melanin is a natural skin pigment produced by specialized cells called melanocytes via a multistage biochemical pathway known as melanogenesis, involving the oxidation and polymerization of tyrosine. Melanogenesis is initiated upon exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, causing the skin to darken, which protects skin cells from UVB radiation damage. However, the abnormal accumulation of melanin may lead to the development of certain skin diseases, including skin cancer. In this study, the antioxidant and antimelanogenic activities of the cell-free supernatant (CFS) of twenty strains were evaluated. Based on the results of 60% 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl scavenging activity, 21% 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) scavenging capacity, and a 50% ascorbic acid equivalent ferric reducing antioxidant power value, Limosilactobacillus fermentum JNU532 was selected as the strain with the highest antioxidant potential. No cytotoxicity was observed in cells treated with the CFS of L. fermentum JNU532. Tyrosinase activity was reduced by 16.7% in CFS-treated B16F10 cells (but not in the cell-free system), with >23.2% reduction in melanin content upon treatment with the L. fermentum JNU532-derived CFS. The inhibitory effect of the L. fermentum JNU532-derived CFS on B16F10 cell melanogenesis pathways was investigated using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and western blotting. The inhibitory effects of the L. fermentum JNU532-derived CFS were mediated by inhibiting the transcription of TYR, TRP-1, TRP-2, and MITF and the protein expression of TYR, TRP-1, TRP-2, and MITF. Therefore, L. fermentum JNU532 may be considered a potentially useful, natural depigmentation agent.

총유기탄소 분석을 위한 유리섬유를 이용한 이산화티타늄 광촉매 반응 (TiO2 Photocatalytic Reaction on Glass Fiber for Total Organic Carbon Analysis)

  • Currently, the demand for real-time monitoring of water quality has increased dramatically. Total organic carbon (TOC) analysis is a suitable method for real-time analysis compared with conventional biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) methods in terms of analysis time. However, this method is expensive because of the complicated internal processes involved. The photocatalytic titanium dioxide (TiO2)-based TOC method is simpler as it omits more than three preprocessing steps. This is because it reacts only with organic carbon (OC) without extra processes. We optimized the rate between the TiO2 photocatalyst and binder solution and the TiO2 concentration. The efficiency was investigated under 365 nm UV exposure onto a TiO2 coated substrate. The optimized conditions were sufficient to apply a real-time monitoring system for water quality with a short reaction time (within 10 min). We expect that it can be applied in a wide range of water quality monitoring industries.

한국 월출산 국립공원 지역민들이 이용하는 약용식물에 대한 민족식물학적 연구 (Ethnobotanical Study of Medicinal Plants used by Indigenous People in Wolchulsan National Park, Korea)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to document the use of medicinal plants in traditional practices and to analyze and evaluate medicinal traditional knowledge of indigenous people in Wolchulsan National Park. Methods : Data were collected through interviews, informal meetings, open and group discussions, and observations guided by semi-structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed via quantitative analysis of use value (UV), informant consensus factor (ICF) and fidelity level (FL), and network analysis. Results : A total of 580 methods of usage recorded in this study were classified into 55 families, 95 genera, and 104 species. Plants with the highest recorded UVs were Glycine max (L.) Merr., Leonurus japonicus Houtt., and Artemisia princeps Pamp.. The informant consensus factor about using medicinal plants ranged from 0.55 to 0.92, which showed a high level of agreement among the informants on respiratory system disorders and pains. There were 22 species of plants with a fidelity level of 100 %, after eliminating the plants that were mentioned only once from the analysis. Finally, using network analysis, Glycine max (L.) Merr. and Artemisia princeps Pamp. were defined as species with meaningful medicinal use, while lumbago and leg pain were defined as significant ailments in the study area. Conclusions : This study highlights the diversity and importance of medicinal traditional knowledge for communities of Wolchulsan National Park, Korea. The results of this study will provide basic data for phytochemical and pharmaceutical studies, such as new medicines and therapies.

미량오염물질 관리를 위한 산화 및 흡착 기반 하수 방류수 강화처리 기술의 연구 동향 및 시사점 (Enhanced sewage effluent treatment with oxidation and adsorption technologies for micropollutant control: current status and implications)

  • Conventional wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) do not fully remove micropollutants. Enhanced treatment of sewage effluents is being considered or implemented in some countries to minimize the discharge of problematic micropollutants from WWTPs. Representative enhanced sewage treatment technologies for micropollutant removal were reviewed, including their current status of research and development. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) such as ozonation and UV/H2O2 and adsorption processes using powdered (PAC) and granular activated carbon (GAC) were mainly discussed with focusing on process principles for the micropollutant removal, effect of process operation and water matrix factors, and technical and economic feasibility. Pilot- and full-scale studies have shown that ozonation, PAC, and GAC can achieve significant elimination of various micropollutants at economically feasible costs(0.16-0.29 €/m3). Considering the current status of domestic WWTPs, ozonation and PAC were found to be the most feasible options for the enhanced sewage effluent treatment. Although ozonation and PAC are all mature technologies, a range of technical aspects should be considered for their successful application, such as energy consumption, CO2 emission, byproduct or waste generation, and ease of system construction/operation/maintenance. More feasibility studies considering domestic wastewater characteristics and WWTP conditions are required to apply ozonation or PAC/GAC adsorption process to enhance sewage effluent treatment in Korea.

섬유소재의 미세먼지 오염도 평가 방법 개발에 관한 연구 (Method to Evaluate Fabric Contamination Due to Fine Dust)

  • Recently, functional clothes that can reduce deposition and/or penetration of fine dust have been developed. However, there are no methods to quantitatively evaluate the performance of these clothes. In this study, we developed a method to contaminate a fabric using fine dust and established an approach to quantitatively assess the degree of particle contamination on the fabric surface. Silicate powder was chosen as the particle to simulate fine dust because silicate particles are fluorescent under UV light; therefore, they can be distinguished from any color of non-fluorescent fabric surface. A camera with a high-resolution lens system was used to scan the surface of the contaminated fabric surface, and the degree of particle contamination of the fabric surface was analyzed in terms of the pixels corresponding to the area of the fabric surface contaminated by silicate particles. Finished or unfinished nylon fabrics as well as cotton fabrics were contaminated with silicate particles, and their surfaces were scanned using the established camera. The proposed assessment method was found to be useful for quantitatively comparing the degree of particle contamination of the fabrics.

Inhibition Mechanism of Endothelin-l-induced $Ca^{2+}$ Mobilization of Antimelanogenic Ingredient: 1,2-Ο-Diferulylglycerol

  • Endothelins secreted from keratinocytes are intrinsic madiators for human melanocytes in UVB-induced pigmentation. Antimelanogenic ingredient, 1,2-Ο-diferulylglycerol(SM709) isolated from bamboo extract inhibited the melanin synthesis of Bl6F10 melanoma cells by 62%. To understand the cellular mechanism of antimelanogenic activity of SM709 in human melanocytes, the effects of SM709 on the ET-l-induced $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization were investigated. ET-l receptors in human melanocytes were characterized by using specific antagonist and found that ET-l increased intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ by activating ET-B receptor. SM709 completely blocked the ET-l-induced intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ increase and its inhibitory effect showed dose- and time- dependent manners. To investigate the role of SM709 on intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ store, when the $Ca^{2+}$ store was partially depleted by thapsigargin; a specific inhibitor of ER-type $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase, caffeine-induced $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization did not changed in the presence or absence of SM709, suggesting that SM709 has no effect on the $Ca^{2+}$ store. It is known that LPA receptor and P$_2$ receptor are linked to InsP$_3$ second messenger system. When these receptors in melanocytes were activated by LPA and ATP, the intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ signaling was observed even in the presence of SM709. From the above results, it can be suggested that SM709 has an antimelanogenic activity by antagonizing the ET-B receptor, resulting in subsequent intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ signaling, in UV induced pigmentation.nduced pigmentation.

The effect of methyl yellow concentrations on the optical properties of polyvinyl chloride-methyl yellow film as a radiation dosimeter

  • A dosimetry system's ability to monitor absorbed doses is crucial for the quality assurance and control of products that have been exposed to radiation. Here, we propose a polyvinyl chloride (PVC)-methyl yellow (MY) film as a potential dosimeter for irradiation facilities. The PVC-MY film was prepared with a simple solvent-casting method at different MY concentrations from 0.3 to 1.2 mM. To evaluate the dosimeter's performance, the film was exposed to gamma-irradiation with irradiation doses of 0-25 kGy. The optical characteristics of the films examined using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer showed that the color of the films changed from yellow to red with increasing irradiation doses, and the color change sensitivity of the films increased with increasing MY concentrations. The absorption spectra of the irradiated PVC-MY films showed three maximum absorption peaks at 417, 522, and 547 nm. As irradiation doses increased, the film absorption at 417 nm decreased, while the film absorption at 522 and 547 nm increased. The film's stability studies suggest storage of the irradiated film in a cold-dark conditions is recommended to prevent damage and maintain response stability. The findings in this study emphasize the potential of the PVC-MY film as a dosimeter for irradiation facilities.

비대칭 Tetradentate Schiff 염기 리간드의 전이금속 착물에 대한 합성 및 특성 (Synthesis and Characterization of Some Transition Metal Complexes of Unsymmetrical Tetradentate Schiff Base Ligand)

  • o-phenylenediamine, 3-acetyl-6-methyl-(2H) pyran, 2,4 (3H)-dione (dehydroacetic acid or DHA) 및 살리실 알데히드로부터 유도한 4-hydroxy-3-(1-{2-(2-hydroxy-benzylidene)-amino phenylimino}-ethyl)-6- methy-pyran-2-one (H2L) 의 Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II) 및 Fe(III) 고체 착물을 합성한 후, 원소분석, 전도 도법, 수자율, 자외선-가시선, 적외선, $^1H$-NMR 스펙트라, X-선 회절, 열분석을 통해 특성을 규명하고 항균 활성을 조사하였다. IR 스펙트럼 데이터로부터 이 리간드가 중심 금속이온에 대해 ONNO 주개원자 배열을 갖는 이염기성 네자리 리간드로 행동함을 제안하였다. 원소분석 데이터로부터 이들 착물의 화학량론이 1:1 (금속:리간드)임을 알았다. 물리-화학적 데이타로부터 Cu(II) 및 Ni(II) 착물이 사각평면 기 하구조, 그리고 Co(II), Mn(II) 및 Fe(III) 착물이 팔면체 기하구조임을 제안하였다. X-선 회절 데이터로 부터 Cu(II) 착물이 사방정계(orthorhombic) 결정계, Ni(II), Co(II) 및 Fe(III) 착물이 단사계(monoclinic) 결정계 그리고 Mn(II) 착물이 정방정계(tetragonal) 결정계임을 제안하였다. 착물의 열적 행동(TG/DTA) 을 연구하였으며 Coats-Redfern 방법으로 반응속도 파라메터를 결정하였다. 리간드와 이들 금속 착물을 이용하여 Staphylococcus aureus 및 Escherichia coli에 대한 향균 활성과 Aspergillus Niger 및 Trichoderma 에 대한 살균 활성을 조사하였다.

Developing improvement technology in pre-etching process for the Shadow Mask quality of flat color TV

  • Recently CRT is getting flatted, As change of CRT trend from normal type to Flat type, the material of Shadow Mask was also changed from AK(Aluminum Killed) to Invar(Fe-Ni alloy) materials Until now we have used just AK(Aluminum Killed) for normal type TV(not flat type), but main raw material of shadow mask component was changed. . However recently Invar(Fe-Ni alloy) materials, which has advantage of Low Thermal Expansion and High Strength, has been developed as well as applying in mass production as CRT's trend has become more flat and fine pitch. As main raw material of shadow mask component was changed, conditions of process were changed. One of them, the importance of pre-etching process (assistant process for developing & etching) is improved because there are so many particles in the pre-etching bath because of Ni compounds. Since the solubility of Ni in pre-etching solvent is very low related to Fe's, so the compounds of Ni happen to make particles.(the solubility of Fe is twenty times Ni's) that particles happen to make process troubles and NG productions so to clear the particles we had to established high cost filtering system, but it is useless. As time goes by the quantity of particles (Ni compounds) was increased because of the capability of filtering system was not enough, the particles was produced continuous in bath, and it make quality problems. Hence we tried to develop the new pre-etching solution to remove the particles (Ni compounds) and to cost down the filtering system's running cost. But in improving the solution we discovered the new pre-etching solution made the PR developing better. In former solution there were three kinds of chemistry (COOH)2 , H2O2 , H2S04 .first the function of (COOH)2 is drilling the surface of Invar, during this mechanism Ni compounds occurred. Second the function of H202 is removing the PR fringe (half UV exposure zone on PR(PVA)), Third the function of H2S04 is the catalysis of (COOH)2 In those, (COOH)2 was the main reason to make the Ni compounds. So to improve the solutions we had to change (COOH)2 to the other material. the chemistry we improved was a complex chemistry based on H2S04 . after using this chemistry the particles problem was disappeared and there was another advantage cut down the PR fringe. The New solution made the function of H202 better so the PR developing improved. To be direct the catalyst of the new solution helped the H202. anyway First thing after change the solution the quality of shadow Mask for flat color TV was improved & the yield also improved. But the more important thing is how to control the new solution. So we accepted the new concept which was the degree of freshness. The degree of freshness is based on non-reacted solution which was 100% ( the degree of freshness) and calculated the melted Ni quantity as time goes by. So we made the gauging liner plot. In conclusion, many companies tried to make fine pitched Shadow Mask ,generally to make quality jump up it needed a lot of cost & persons .in this case the shift of core material made it possible.
