도시지역과 청정지역에서의 대기 중 PAN(PeroxyAcetyl Nitrate) 측정 (Measurements of Peroxyacetyl Nitrates at an Urban and a Rural Site in Korea)

  • Although PAN has ong been considered to belong to one of the most characteristic photooxidants, its concentra-tions have rarely been measured in a systematic manner in Korea. The first in-situ Measurements of PAN were made in concert with simultaneous analysis of NO, NO$_2$, $O_3$ and UV-Visible radiation intensity from Seoul and dong-Hae during Spring and early Summer of 1999. The aim of our study was to evaluate the behavior of photo-chemical species in a highly polluted urban air and a relative clean one. PAN were determined using a semi-auto-mated gas chromatograph equipped with an electron captured detection system. Calibration of the PAN was done by synthesizing liquid standards using a strong acid nitration of the corresponding peracid. The PAN concentra-tions were found in the range of a few ppbv in the urban air ad persistently less than a ppbv in the clean rural airs. Diurnal variations of PAN and $O_3$ were also observed consistently during the experiment with maxima occurring during the late daylight hours. While the positive dependency of $O_3$ production and PAN concentrations were ob-served in most occasion, the dependency became deviated significantly under changes in air masses.

Cloning, Sequencing and Characterization of Acyltransferase Gene Involved in Exopolysaccharide Biosynthesis of Zoogloea ramigera 115SLR

  • The recombinant plasmid pLEX2FP complements the mutation in Zoogloea ramigera 115MM1, and the complemented mutant produces an exopolysaccharide that shows higher affinity for the calcofluor dye than the exopolysaccharide from Z. ramigera 115SLR, resulting in higher fluorescence intensity under UV light. A compositional and structural analysis of the exopolysaccharide from Z. ramigera 115MM1 showed that the different fluorescent properties were due to a lower content of acetyl groups when compared with Z. ramigera 115SLR exopolysaccharide. These results were in agreement with a sequence analysis of the gene carried in the plasmid pLEX2FP, which appeared to encode an O-acyltransferase highly homologous to the 3-O-acyltransferase of Streptomyces mycarofaciens. The gene encoding the acyltransferase from Z. ramigera 115SLR was expressed as a GST-fusion protein with 70,000 daltons in E. coli.

  • We have fabricated the polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) cell where a control of phase separation is very important. The factors to influence the phase separation are mixing ratio of LC and polymer, curing temperature and UV intensity. In this paper, we inspected the change of a phase separation as a function of curing temperature for the mixture of E7 and. NOA65 with different ratios. When the LC concentration is less than polymer such as LC:NOA65 = 40:60wt%, the PDLC cell is influenced strongly by the curing temperature. However, when the LC concentration is much less than polymer such as LC:NOA65 = 80:20wt%, it is influenced slightly by the curing temperature. The reason is because the mixture shows upper critical solution temperature behavior and therefore it is important to know the behavior of phase separation as a function of curing temperature of the mixture.

  • Spectroscopic and quantum mechanical studies of the Et3PAuCl complex were performed to characterize the effect of aurophilicity on the optical properties. When excited with UV light at low temperature, the crystalline complex produced a deep luminescence in both the blue (high-energy) and red (low-energy) regions of the spectrum. The intensity of the low-energy luminescence was markedly reduced in the powdered state and quenched in the solution state. Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations on electronic structures of both the ground and excited states of aggregates $[Et_3PAuCl]_n$ (n = 1 - 3) indicated that the low-energy luminescence was attributable to Au-centered transitions, which are significantly affected by aurophilic interactions. By contrast, the high-energy luminescence appeared to be independent of the state of the complex and was strongly associated with the charge transfer from Cl to Au.

광촉매 TiO2의 반응활성 비교 . 평가 기준에 관한 연구 (A Study on Comparison and Evaluation Standard of Photocatalytic Activity for Commercial TiO2)

  • This study was investigated experimental condition which is able to evaluate photocatalytic activity of various commercial $TiO_2$. The experiments were performed for three representative substances (ethanol, phenol and methylene blue) and four kinds of commercial $TiO_2$, under the experimental conditions such as pH, reactant concentration, amount of $TiO_2$, reaction time and UV intensity. The optimum experimental conditions to evaluate photocatalytic activity were as follows : for ethanol, the initial concentration 1000 ppm, initial pH 8, $TiO_2$ loadings 0.1 wt%, and reaction time 90 minutes: for phenol, the initial concentration 200 ppm, initial pH 8, $TiO_2$ loadings 1 wt%, and reaction time 60 minutes: for methylene blue, the initial concentration 200 ppm, initial pH 4, $TiO_2$ loadings 0.5 wt%, and reaction time 30 minutes.

채층 활동이 강한 별들의 분광선 (SPECTRA OF CHROMOSPHERICALLY ACTIVE STARS)

  • We have reviewed the magnetic activity in close binaries. Solar like magnetic activity indicators such as photometric spots, chromo spheric emission, coronal X-ray and radio emission, and flare activity are commonplace in many cool stars with convective envelopes. Using the UV spectra we confirmed the strength of stellar activity increases with more rapid rotation and later spectral types which corresponds to the increasing depth of the star's convective envelope. Apart from very young stellar objects such as T Tauri stars, the stars with the highest levels of activity are close binary systems composed of cool stars, i.e., the chromospherically active binaries such as RS CVn, BY Dra, W UMa and related systems. The IUE low and high dispersion spectra of V711 Tau, VW Cep and SW Lac are used for ultraviolet photometry and for a variation study of chromospheric activity. Evidence of chromospherically activity is indicated by the intensity variation of the Mg II emission line with orbital phase.

광촉매가 첨가된 스코리아/황토 콘크리트의 NOx 제거 특성 (The photo-removal Characteristic of NOx by photocatalyst/scoria/loess concrete)

  • The environment-friendly building material, photocatalyst/scoria/loess concrete, was prepared using scoria and loess (which have merits as building materials) and photocatalyst (which has the functions to compose the environmental contaminants and of self cleaning). In order to apply this material as a building material, the compressive and flexible strengths, and water absorptivity (which have been set by Korea Industrial Standard) were measured. In order to know the environment-friendly characteristics of this material, several tests, such as, the tests of emissivity and emission power of far infrared ray and acoustic absorptivity, antibacterial test for Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, antifungal test for mixed fungal strains, and deodorization test of ammonia were carried out. Moreover, the removal characteristics of NOx, and formaldehyde (HCHO) by photocatalyst/scoria/loess concrete were examined as the following different parameters: the removal characteristics of these contaminants with the substitution ratio and the kind of photocatalyst, light source, UV intensity of sunlight, relative humidity, intial NOx concentration.

  • It is widely investigated to liquid crystal (LC) alignment using non-contact alignment method such as ion-beam (IB) irradiation, UV alignment, and oblique deposition. Because conventional rubbing method has some drawbacks. These include defects from dust and electrostatic charges and rubbing scratch during rubbing process. In addition, rubbing method needs additional process to remove these defects. Therefore rubbing-free methods like ion-beam irradiation are strongly required. We studied LC alignment effect on poly imide surface by IB irradiation and electro-optical (EO) characteristics of twisted nematic liquid crystal display (TN-LCD). In this experiment, a good uniform alignment of the nematic liquid crystal (NLC) with the ion-beam exposure on the polyimide (PI) (SE-150 from Nissan Chemical) surface was observed. We also achieved low pretilt angle as a function of ion-beam irradiation intensity. In addition, it can be obtained the good EO properties of the IB-aligned TN-LCD on PI surface. Some other experiments results and discussion will be included in the poster.

Minimization of Welding Defect in $CO_2$ Laser Welded Tube

  • To minimize the weld defect in manufacturing of the welded tube by using $CO_2$ laser, the monitoring of the welding quality and the seam tracking along the butt-joint lengthwise to the tube axis are studied. The longitudinal butt-joint is shaped from $60kgf/mm^2$ grade steel sheet by 2 roll bending method, and welded by the $CO_2$ laser welding system equipped with the seam tracker and plasma sensor. The laser welded tube has the thickness of 1.5mm, diameter of 105.4mm and length of 2000mm. The precise positioning of the laser beam on the butt-joint to be assembled is obtained within $200{\mu}m$ by the laser vision sensor. The artificial defects in the butt-joint are well observed by the signal of plasma intensity measured from the plasma sensor of UV wavelength range within 400nm. The developed $CO_2$ laser tube welding system has the function of the precision seam tracking and the real-time monitoring of the welding quality. In conclusion, the laser welded tube can be used for manufacturing of automobile chassis and components after hydro-forming.

  • In Projection Stereolithography Apparatus (PSLA), Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) are used as a beam pattern generator. The DMD shows high resolution, but it is mostly applied in micro stereolithography due to high cost and fabricable area. In LCD, the size of pattern beam is freely controlled due to various panel sizes. The LCD, however, has some limitations such as short life time by the high power light source, non-uniform light intensity of pattern beam and low transmittance of UV-light. To solve these problems in LCD-based PSLA, a Scanbeam-SLA with LCD of 19 inches and visible LED-array is developed. In this system, the light module works like a scanner for uniform illumination. The system configuration, working principle and fabrication examples are addressed in this study.
