  • This paper presents a core meta-tag of OpenURL written in Key/Encoded-Value format in the field of observation research, to distribute the scientific data, produced in many experimentations and observations, on the OpenURL service architecture. So far, the OpenURL hasn't supplied a meta-tag represented scientific data because it has focused on circulation of scholarly and technological information extracted from thesis, proceedings, journals, literatures, etc. The DataCite consortium metadata were analyzed and compared with the Dublin Core metadata, OECD metadata, and Directory Interchange Format metadata to develop a core meta-tag in observation research.

  • This paper presents a meta-tag expanded from scholarly service types of OpenURL written in Key/Encoded-Value format, after analyzing new scholarly service types and DataCite metadata elements which are for research data publishing and services. So far, OpenURL Z39.88 standard, KEVFormat: Sch-Svc, supporting six scholarly service type only, the expansion of this standard is needed for a research data circulation. New eight scholarly service types were extracted, after analyzing and comparing with the Scopus, Web of Science, and NDSL services. And nine representative attributes were extracted, after analyzing intensively the DataCite's elements.

  • CrossRef provides a various queries(OpenAPIs) which can be used for DOI & meta data lookup. CrossRef encourages publishers and library societies to develop diverse system by using the queries. In this thesis, CrossRef's queries are analyzed and DOI Lookup API which could automatically lookup the DOI by various methods was developed. I proposed that how institutions having their own meta data can use the developed API.

  • They are frequently used today in public places such as street, subway, school or library. Since users can sometimes print documents that contain confidential data using Printer Kiosks, the devices should store and manage the documents securely. In this paper, we identify potential security threats in Printer Kiosks and suggest practical attack scenarios that can take place. To show the feasibility of suggested attack, we analyzed network traffic that were generated by the real Printer Kiosk device. As a result of our analysis, we have found that attackers can access other users' scanned files and access other users' documents from Printer Kiosk's home page. We confirmed that using our attack, we could retrieve other users' personal data.

  • This paper reports the GEM (Gateway to Educational Materials) project whose goal is to develop an operational framework to provide the K-12 teachers in the world with 'one-stop/any-stop' access to thousands of lesson plans, curriculum units and other Internet-based educational resources. To the IS-element Dublin Core base package, the GEM project added an 8-element, domain-specific GEM package. The GEM project employed the conceptual data modeling approach to designing the GEM database, used the Sybase relational database management system (RDBMS) to construct the backend database for storing the metadata of educational resources, and also employed the active server page (ASP) technology to provide Web interfaces to that database. The consortium members catalog lesson plans and other Internet-based educational resources using a cataloging module program that produces HTML meta tags. A harvest program collects these meta tags across the Internet and outputs an ASCII file that conforms to the standard agreed by the consortium members. A parser program processes this file to enter meta tags automatically into appropriate relational tables in the Sybase database. The conceptual/logical schemas of Dublin Core and GEM profile are presented. The advantages of conceptual modeling approach to manage metadata are discussed. A prototype system that provides access to the GEM metadata is available at http://lis.skku.ac.kr/gem/.
