  • This paper discusses an empirical study on extracting requirements for ubiquitous computing technology-based information system (ubi-IS) using factor analysis. After preliminary review of related literature, features specific to ubiquitous computing technology have been retrieved, selected in terms of main elements of information system (IS) (network, device, user interface, and operating system), and further used as variables during conducting factor analysis. Quantitative data was collected through questionnaire approach. The results of factor analysis manifested 5 factors containing 15 variables, and eventually, based upon the extracted factors the requirements for ubi-IS were identified.

  • In this research paper, We have proposed an interpretation structure concerned with context-awareness which is essential to provide intelligent service. The proposed model has an interpretation structure that integrated information of both external and internal context, and been designed to keep independency between context information and application service. To verify the interpretation structure that proposed, we established a test bed (Ubi-Class) in which the concept of context awareness has been introduced to the existing class room, and constituted a scenario, and tested whether intelligent service is performed according to context interpretation.

  • The proliferation of real-time multimedia services requires huge amounts of data transactions demanding strict quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees. Multicast transmission is a promising technique because of its efficient network resource utilization. However, high head-of-line (HOL) blocking probability and lack of service-specific QoS control should be addressed for practical implementations of multicast networks. In this paper, a topology aware fanout set division (TAFD) scheme is proposed to resolve these problems. The proposed scheme is composed of two techniques that reduce HOL blocking probability and expedite packet delivery for large-delay branches regarding multicast tree topology. Since management of global topology information is not necessary, scalability of the proposed scheme is guaranteed. Mathematical analysis investigates effects of the proposed scheme and derives optimal operational parameters. The evaluation results show that the TAFD scheme achieves significant delay reduction and satisfies required delay bounds on various multicast networks.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a GIS-based digital Forest Land-use(FLU) Map Building Process which will be adopted as the map publishment methodology for the official FLU Map notification in 2007. The process is composed of 6 steps, extracting forest lands from Continuous Land Map(CLM), extracting forest land borders restricted by other laws, extracting boundaries between semi- and reserve forest lands, making digital FLU map by integrating spatial and attribute data among the extractions, printing FLU map and FLU register, and re-correcting zoning errors. Through the process, in 1:25,000 and 1:5,000 scale, 14 and 173 sheets of the FLU Maps and it's register were created for the whole area of Hwaseong, Kyunggi.

  • In this paper, we propose ubiWarehouse system which can efficiently manages mass and many kinds of parts such as automotive parts. First, user's work situation is defined systematically as context type of 5W1H, context-aware system is separated on function, and each module operates independently. An efficient route is selected and relevant parts frequently treated at the same time are gathered by calculating the suitability of parts and racks. If other users currently are on a visit or are supposed to visit soon, the hun of visit is changed making a concession for preventing collision. As a result, the proposed system with avoiding competition can provide users with routes for inbound or outbound parts, and can effectively use spaces of a warehouse by arranging racks to gather relevant parts to near location. Also, individual service can be offered by evaluating user propensity using history of the warehouse job, and the accuracy of stock information can be improved by processing of unexpected context and real-time renewing of warehousing and delivering.

  • Abiotic stresses such as drought and low temperature critically restrict plant growth, reproduction, and productivity. Higher plants have developed various defense strategies against these unfavorable conditions. CaPUB1 (Capsicum annuum Putative U-box protein 1) is a hot pepper U-box E3 Ub ligase. Transgenic Arabidopsis plants that constitutively expressed CaPUB1 exhibited drought-sensitive phenotypes, suggesting that it functions as a negative regulator of the drought stress response. In this study, CaPUB1 was over-expressed in rice (Oryza sativa L.), and the phenotypic properties of transgenic rice plants were examined in terms of their drought and cold stress tolerance. Ubi:CaPUB1 T3 transgenic rice plants displayed phenotypes hypersensitive to dehydration, suggesting that its role in the negative regulation of drought stress response is conserved in dicot Arabidopsis and monocot rice plants. In contrast, Ubi:CaPUB1 progeny exhibited phenotypes markedly tolerant to prolonged low temperature ($4^{\circ}C$) treatment, compared to those of wild-type plants, as determined by survival rates, electrolyte leakage, and total chlorophyll content. Cold stress-induced marker genes, including DREB1A, DREB1B, DREB1C, and Cytochrome P450, were more up-regulated by cold treatment in Ubi:CaPUB1 plants than in wild-type plants. These results suggest that CaPUB1 serves as both a negative regulator of the drought stress response and a positive regulator of the cold stress response in transgenic rice plants. This raises the possibility that CaPUB1 participates in the cross-talk between drought and low-temperature signaling pathways.

  • Under ubiquitous environment, applications can gather and utilize various sensing information. There are many issues such as energy management, protocol standardization, independency on sensor fields, and security to be resolved for the complete ubiquitous computing. Especially, the independent information access in the sensor field is one of the most important issues to maximize the usability of sensors in various sensor fields. However, existing frameworks are not suitable for the ubiquitous computing environment because of data heterogeneity between data elements in sensor fields. Existing applications are dependent to sensor fields and sensors in the existing ubiquitous computing on environment is dependent to the application in the sensor field. In other word, an application can utilize just information from a specific sensor field. To overcome this restriction, many issues from a hardware or software view must be resolved. In this paper, we provide the design and implementation of the Metadata Registry-based framework (UbiMDR) of the Ubiquitous environment. This framework can provides the semantic interoperability among ubiquitous applications or various sensor fields. In addition, we describe comparison evaluation between conventional Ubiquitous computing framework and UbiMDR framework with data accuracy of interoperability.

  • The activity of promoter sequences was evaluated in garlic cells using the $\beta$-glucuronidase (GUS) gene as a reporter. Histochemical GUS assay indicated transient GUS activity in leaf, callus and root cells 48 hours after particle bombardment transformation. Quantitative fluorometric assays in extracts of transformed leaves demonstrated that the CsVMV promoter induced the highest level of gene expression, which was, on average, ten fold the level induced by CaMV35S and by the Arabidopsis Act2 promoters and two fold the level expression observed with a construct containing a double CaMV35S plus the untranslated leader sequence from AMV. No activity or very low levels were observed when cells were transformed with plasmids rontaining the typical monocot promoters, Actl, from rice or the Ubi-1, from maize. The green fluorescent protein (GFP) was also tested as a marker gene for garlic transformation. Intense fluorescence was observed in leaf, callus and root cells transformed with a construct containing the gfp gene under control of the CaMV35 Promoter. No fluorescence was detected when the gfp was under control of the Ubi-1 promoter.
