Studies on MMIC oscillator using HBT for X-band (X-band용 MMIC 오실레이터 설계연구)

  • In this paper, HBT's with lower phase noise and passive elements, such as resistors, capacitors and inductors, for resonance and impedance matching networks are designed, fabricated, tested, and carefully analysed, respectively, and then, they are integrated for the design and fabrication of functional X-band oscillators with lower phase noise. Epi-wafers for HBT's with the structure of graded $Al_{x}$G $a_{1-x}$ As emitter and C-doped base layer of 700.angs. thick were used to specially emphasize the improvement of $f_{T}$ and $f_{max}$, and the lowering of phase noise, in design aspects. At the test frequencies of 12GHz, capacitances of MIM capacitors, spiral inductor, and resistances are 0.5~10pF, 0.4~11.06nH, and 20~1,380.ohm., respectively. The emitter size of HBY's for the X-band MMIC oscillators is 3*10u $m^{2}$, and find chip size is 0.9*0.9m $m^{2}$..EX>.

Preparation and Properties of $Zn_{1-x}Mg_xO$ Thin Films Prepared by Pulsed Laser Deposition Method (펄스 레이저 증착법을 이용한 $Zn_{1-x}Mg_xO$ 박막의 제작과 특성연구)

  • To widen the band gap of ZnO, we have investigated $Zn_{1-x}Mg_xO(ZMO)$ thin films prepared by pulsed laser deposition on c-plane sapphire substrates at $500^{\circ}C$. From X-ray diffraction patterns, ZMO films show only the (0002) and (0004) diffraction peaks. It means that the flints have the wurtzite structure. Segregation of ZnO and MgO phases is found in the films with x=0.59. All the samples are highly transparent in the visible region and have a sharp absorption edge in the UV region. The shift of absorption edge to higher energy is observed in the films with higher Mg composition. The excitonic nature of the films is clearly appeared in the spectra for all alloy compositions. The optical band-gap ($E_g$) of ZMO films is obtained from the ${\alpha}^2$ vs Photon energy plot assuming ${\alpha}^2\;\propto$ (hv - $E_g$), where u is the absorption coefficient and hv is the photon energy. The value of $E_g$ increases up to 3.72 eV for the films with x=0.35. It is important to adjust Mg composition control for controlling the band-gap of ZMO films.

Galaxy overdensities at intermediate to high redshift

  • We searched and studied galaxy overdensities at 0.6 < z < 4.5 in the areas of two GOODS fields. These overdensities are identified by running top-hat filters on the two dimensional spatial distribution of two galaxy samples - a K-band limited, photometric redshift sample at 0.6 < z < 4.5, and BVz-color selected sample targeting overdensities at z ~ 3.7 and z ~ 4.0. Here photometric redshifts are derived from multi-wavelength data ranging from U-band through 8 micron band of the Spitzer. We find 52 overdensities with significances of 3.5-7 ${\sigma}$. The derived masses found to be a > $10^{13}\;M_{\odot}$ with the comoving number density of a few ${\times}10^{-6}\;Mpc^{-3}$ at z ~ 3. In order to understand the high number density of massive overdensities at high redshift, we carried out an analysis of galaxy overdensities using the mock galaxy catalog based on Millennium simulation selected in the same way as the analysis of the observational data. In the simulation, we find 650 galaxy overdensities with a 3.5 ${\sigma}$ detection threshold over $2^{{\circ}2}$ sky field. The number density of the very massive overdensities (M > $10^{14}\;M_{\odot}$) in simulation shows a similar trend with the observation. We further discuss implications of our results.

  • In this paper, the 5-bit digital phase shiftier with 10 InGaAs HEMTs is designed and fabricated for U.S. mobile DBS receiving active phased array antenna system in 12 GHz band. 11.25 $^{\circ}$, 22.5$^{\circ}$ and 45$^{\circ}$ phase bits are designed in leaded-line type. 90$^{\circ}$ and 180$^{\circ}$ phase bits are designed in reflection type combined with ring hybrid. The return loss more than 17.5 ㏈, insertion louts less than 7.8 ㏈, and maximum phase error of $\pm$6$^{\circ}$for 32 phase responses are measured in 12.2 GHz~ 12.7 GHz band.

Investigation of Goyang Tornado Outbreak Using X-band Polarimetric Radar: 10 June 2014 (X밴드 이중편파레이더를 활용한 고양 토네이도 발생 사례 분석: 2014년 6월 10일)

  • On 10 July 2014, tornado outbreak occurred over Goyang province in Korea. This was the first supercell tornado ever reported or documented in Korea. The characteristics of the supercell tornado were investigated using an X-band polarimetric radar, surface meteorological observation, wind profiler, and operational numerical weather prediction (Regional Data Assimilation and Prediction System, RDAPS). The supercell tornado developed along a preexisting dryline that was contributed to surface wind shear. The radar analyses examined here show that the supercell tornado indicated a hook echo with mesocyclone. The decending reflectivity core as well was detected before tornadogenesis and prior to intensification of supercell. The supercell tornado exhibited characteristics similar to typical supercell tornado over the Great Plains of the United States, such as hook echo, bounded weak echo region, and slower movement speed relative to the mean wind. Compared to the typical supercell tornado over U.S., this tornado showed horizontal scale of the mesocyclone was relatively smaller and left-mover.

  • Among the various microwaves, the microwaves that we are using in our life are the things that combined with the information on what we need with various technologies. However, the signals that we do not want to get as an information is just noise. Therefore, we need to collect only the necessary information, and other information needs to be blocked. This technology is called Jamming. In this paper, the Partial-Band Jamming System through the Helical Antenna about target 95.1 and 97.3MHz in 88Mhz to 108MHz of the FM radio frequency band was studied.

  • Scientific CubeSat with Instruments for Global Magnetic Fields and Radiations (SIGMA) is a 3-U size CubeSat that will be operated in low earth orbit (LEO). The SIGMA communication system uses a very high frequency (VHF) band for uplink and an ultra high frequency (UHF) band for downlink. Both frequencies belong to an amateur band. The ground station that communicates with SIGMA is located at Kyung Hee Astronomical Observatory (KHAO). For reliable communication, we carried out a laboratory (LAB) test and far-field tests between the CubeSat and a ground station. In the field test, we considered test parameters such as attenuation, antenna deployment, CubeSat body attitude, and Doppler frequency shift in transmitting commands and receiving data. In this paper, we present a communication performance test of SIGMA, a link budget analysis, and a field test process. We also compare the link budget with the field test results of transmitting commands and receiving data.

  • Polarization of the light scattered by the lunar surface contains information on the mean particle size of the lunar regolith, which gradually decreases by continued micro-meteoroid impact over a long period and thus is an age indicator of the surface. We performed multi-band (U, B, V, R and I) polarimetric observations toward the whole near side of the Moon at the Lick observatory using a 15-cm reflecting telescope with 1.1km/pixel spatial resolution at the center of the lunar disk. We analyze the color dependence of the polarization properties of the lunar regolith and discuss its implication for the study of lunar swirls.

  • Fusion gene of GFPuv and Cytochrome c-552 was inserted into the pTrcHis B vector and transferred to E. coli. A fusion protein of GFPuv and Cytochrome c-552 was expressed in BL21. This fusion protein was composed of a His-tag for purification using an immobilized metal affinity chromatography(IMAC). IMAC constitutes a rather facile means of unravelling the principles of recognition and, in particular, of identifying the counterligands on the protein surface, which interact with the ligated and immobilized metal ions. Histidine when present on the surface of a protein molecule under a favorable solvent condition, may serve as electron donors in coordination with the immobilized chelates of some transition metal ions$(Ni^{2+})$.

  • 포항가속기연구소에서는 PLS 2-GeV 선형가속기 클라이스트론의 교체 및 보수시에 사용하기 위하여, 80 MW급 S-band의 도파관 밸브를 개발중에 있다. PLS형 도파관 밸브는 결합수단 없이 대전력을 전송할 수 있는 구조로 설계되어, 전력전송에 대한 제한을 받지 않는 특징을 갖는다. 본 도파관 밸브의 주요구성부는 밀착구동체를 갖는 U자형 도파관부, 두 개의 H-코너가 부착된 진공함, 그리고 두 개의 Viton O-링이 장착된 진공기밀판으로 이루어져 있다. 시제품용 도파관 밸브의 특성조사 결과, 펄스폭 3.5 $\mu$sec, 반복율 30 Hz에서 65MW의 전력전송을 얻을 수 있었다. 본 논문에서는 PLS도파관 밸브의 설계 개념, 기계적 특성 및 가공의 순으로 자세히 논할 것이며, 또한 현재까지의 실험결과 및 앞으로의 계획에 대하여 보고하기로 한다.
