  • The purpose of this study was to find a countermeasure to the U.S. import refusals for the Korean healthcare and life sciences industry. To this end, an analysis of trends during the pandemic was conducted using the KITA Border Rejection Database, which includes information on items and types of import refusals. The reason for rejection was also analyzed according to the FDA violation codes. The degree of countermeasure for import refusals was identified by measuring the unit rejection rate (URR). The results of the analysis showed that the major U.S. import refusals for the Korean healthcare and life sciences industry had expanded from contact lenses to COVID-19 diagnostic kits and drugs after the pandemic broke out. The major reasons for import refusals were non-compliance with the Predicate Device and Drugs Act and non-approval by the FDA for products and facilities. On the other hand, the unit rejection rate (URR) of major items in the Korean healthcare and life sciences industry was measured higher than the industry average. The results therefore showed a low level of response to U.S. import refusals. The results of the analysis of reasons for import refusals by item according to FDA violation codes were as follows. First of all, the main violation for contact lenses and COVID-19 diagnostic kits corresponded to misbranding. This was often due to the fact that Korean companies did not provide the relevant notices and information required by the FDA. Many cases also failed to demonstrate a substantial equivalency compared to predicate devices already on the market. On the other hand, applications for new unapproved drugs were not accepted as they had yet to pass relevant regulations that would prove their safety and efficacy. In conclusion, import refusals for the Korean healthcare and life sciences industry were found to be closely related to technical barriers to trade (TBT).

  • The current study focuses on the assessment and interface response of reinforced concrete elements with composite materials (carbon fiber reinforced polymers-CFRPs, glass fiber reinforced polymers-GFRPs, textile reinforced mortars-TRM's, near surface mounted bars-NSMs). A description of the transfer mechanisms from concrete elements to the strengthening materials is conducted through analytical models based on failure modes: plate end interfacial debonding and intermediate flexural crack induced interfacial debonding. A database of 55 in total reinforced concrete columns (scale 1:1) is assembled containing elements rehabilitated with various techniques (29 wrapped with CFRP's, 5 wrapped with GFRP's, 4 containing NSM and 4 strengthened with TRM). The failure modes are discussed together with the performance level of each technique as well as the efficiency level in terms of ductility and bearing/ bending capacity. The analytical models' results are in acceptable agreement with the experimental data and can predict the failure modes. Despite the heterogeneity of the elements contained in the aforementioned database the results are of high interest and point out the need to incorporate the analytical expressions in design codes in order to predict the failure mechanisms and the limit states of bearing capacities of each technique.

  • Because of the importance of suction or injection in the fields of aerodynamics, space science and many other industrial applications, our present study is motivated. The effect of natural convection on MHD flow past a vertical plate with suction or injection is studied. We have tried to solve the dimensionless governing equations by using finite difference scheme. To ensure the validity of our numerical solutions, we have compared our numerical solutions for temperature and velocity for the case of suction and injection for unit Prandtl number with the available exact solutions in the literature. The corresponding codes were written in Mathematica 5.0 for calculating numerical solutions for temperature and velocity and the comparison between the exact and numerical solutions. For the purpose of discussing the results some numerical calculations are carried out for non-dimensional temperature T, velocity u, skin friction ${\tau}$ and the Nusselt number $N_u$, by making use of it, the rate of heat transfer is studied.

  • UBV light curves of an early type close binary AQ Cas are made with the observations obtained at Yonsei University from 1982 to 1989. Light losses in U are shown at the phase around 0.55 and 0.90 which might be produced by the stream of mass transfer. Four times of minimum light derived from our observations. With the collected minima including ours, new light elements are determined. Phtometric solution with B and V light curves is made by using Wilson-Devinney codes.

  • The error-trapping decoder is constructed for the (7, 3) Reed-Solomon code. The syndrome resister is constructed with the encoder and the substanial test logic circuits. The element of GF(8) is represented by the triple D-flip-floops. The hardware is constructed. And it is controlled by the micro computer(Apple II). The time for the encoding and the decoding were $350\musecs and 910u secs respectively. The experimental results show that the two symbol errors were corrected and 4-bit-binary-burst errors were also corrected.

  • Displacement cross-sections for an advanced assessment of radiation damage rates were obtained for a number of materials using the arc-dpa model at neutron incident energies from $10^{-5}eV$ to 10 GeV. Evaluated data files, CEM03 and ECIS codes, and an approximate approach were applied for the calculation of recoil energy distributions in neutron induced reactions. Three sets of displacement cross-sections based on the use of low-energy data from JEFF-3.3, ENDF/B-VIII.0, and JENDL-4.0u were prepared. Files contain also cross-sections calculated using the standard NRT model. Special efforts were made to estimate the uncertainty of obtained displacement cross-sections.

  • The low-lying resolved resonance structure of U-233 is investigated in terms of the Adler-Adler multilevel formalism. The resonance capture and fission cross sections of U-233 below 60 eV are calculated using Adlers' effective resonance parameters. The infinite dilution resonance integrals of U-233 are computed with the use of the Alders' parameters adjusted to fit the cross section data. It is found that the agreement of calculations with experiments is generally good over most of the energy region covered. A transformation of the Adlers' multilevel parameters into an equivalent set of the single level pseudoparameters is made for the use of the existing computer codes which are useful in the reactor calculations but do not have capability to use the multilevel parameters. The results of this transformation are presented in the form of a table.

  • The architecture environment has changed. The corresponding design criteria should be changed. From July 27th, 2005 the Korea Standard of the fire door changed concerning the smoke resistance test which made the door gap structure more elaborate. However the National Fire Safety Codes are applied by the old data's of England. Which in case differs in the actual construction to the blue print, making the safety standard too excessive. Analyze the results and the phenomenon that occurs due to the difference between design and reality. The National Fire Safety Codes should be revised to leakage crack calculation is presented. Difference of the air flow for the smoke protection due to the stack effect analyzed. Living patterns and evacuation patterns of the apartment reflect and reasonable air flow measurement method are presented.
