  • Ubiquitous and pervasive environment presents opportunities for a rich set of location aware applications such as car navigation and intelligent robots, interactive virtual games, logistics service, asset tracking etc. Typical indoor location systems require better accuracy than what current outdoor location systems provide, Outdoor location technologies such as GPS have poor indoor performance because of the harsh nature of indoor environments, In this paper we present a novel reducing interference location system that is particularly well suited to support context aware computing. The system, called EEM (Enhance Envelop Method) alms to combine the advantages of real time tracking systems that implement distributed environment with the suitability of infrastructure sensor network.

  • A simulation of failures on responsible elements is only one form of the extreme structural behavior analysis. By understanding the dynamic behavior in incidental situations, it is possible to make a special structural design from the point of the largest axial force, stress and redundancy. The numerical realization of one such simulation analysis was performed using FEM in this paper. The boundary parameters of transient analysis, such as overall structural damping coefficient, load accelerations, time of load fall and internal forces in the responsible structural elements, were determined on the basis of the dynamic experimental parameters. The structure eigenfrequencies were determined in modal analysis. In the study, the basic incidental models were set. The models were identified by many years of monitoring incidental situations and the most frequent human errors in work with heavy structures. The combined load models of structure are defined in the paper since the incidents simply arise as consequences of cumulative errors and failures. A feature of a combined model is that the single incident causes the next incident (consecutive timing) as well as that other simple dynamic actions are simultaneous. The structure was observed in three typical load positions taken from the crane passport (range-load). The obtained dynamic responses indicate the degree of structural sensitivity depending on the character of incident. The dynamic coefficient KD was adopted as a parameter for the evaluation of structural sensitivity.

  • Recently, interests to remove nitrogen in the nitritation process have increased because of its economical advantages, since it could be a short-cut process to save both oxygen for nitrification and carbon for denitrification compared to a typical nitrification. However, the kinetics related with the nitritation process has not yet been fully understood. Furthermore, many useful models which have been successfully used for wastewater treatment processes cannot be used to estimate effluent nitrite concentration for evaluating performance of the nitritation process, since the process rate equations and population of microorganisms for nitrogen removal in these models have been set up only for the condition of full nitrification. Therefore, the present study was conducted to estimate an effluent nitrite concentration in the nitritation process with a concept of enzymatic inhibition kinetics based on long-term laboratory experiments. Using a nonlinear least squares regression method, kinetic parameters were accurately determined. By setting up a process rate equation along with a mass balance equation of the nitrite-oxidizing step, an effluent nitrite concentration in the nitritation process was then successfully estimated.

  • The excitation angle or angle of incidence is the angle in which the horizontal seismic components are applied with respect to the principal structural axes during a time history analysis. In this study, numerical simulations and parametric studies are performed for the investigation of the effect of the angle of seismic incidence on the response of adjacent buildings, which may experience structural pounding during strong earthquakes due to insufficient or no separation distance between them. A specially developed software application has been used that implements a simple and efficient methodology, according to which buildings are modelled in three dimensions and potential impacts are simulated using a novel impact model that takes into account the arbitrary location of impacts and the geometry at the point of impact. Two typical multi-storey buildings and a set of earthquake records have been used in the performed analyses. The results of the conducted parametric studies reveal that it is very important to consider the arbitrary direction of the ground motion with respect to the structural axes of the simulated buildings, especially during pounding, since, in many cases, the detrimental effects of pounding become more pronounced for an excitation angle different from the commonly examined 0 or 90 degrees.

  • The high permeability-high strength concrete belongs to the typical of porous materials. It is mainly used in underground engineering for cold area, it can act the role of heat preservation, also to be the bailing and buffer layer. In order to establish a suitable model to predict the thermal conductivity and directly applied for engineering, according to the structure characteristics, the thermal conductivity predicting model was built by resistance network model of parallel three-phase medium. For the selected geometric and physical cell model, the thermal conductivity forecast model can be set up with aggregate particle size and mixture ratio directly. Comparing with the experimental data and classic model, the prediction model could reflect the mixture ratio intuitively. When the experimental and calculating data are contrasted, the value of experiment is slightly higher than predicting, and the average relative error is about 6.6%. If the material can be used in underground engineering instead by the commonly insulation material, it can achieve the basic requirements to be the heat insulation material as well.

  • Raster operations are widely used to display full-color graphics images (or pixmaps) and single-color images (or bitmaps). These features are strongly needed for image processing applications and font output. However, current mobile graphics platforms, including OpenGL ES hardware implementations, do not directly support these features. To fully support those raster operations on the mobile graphics platforms, we interpreted the graphics images as a set of 3D points, and processed those 3D points through the typical 3D geometry pipelines, in a full-software implementation. Our implementation shows sufficient execution speeds, and passed the official conformance tests to show its correctness.

  • It is very difficult for the large-scale retailers, who deal with tens of thousands of items, to price all the items dynamically reflecting all the constraints and policies. In spite of its importance, the prices are determined by human experts because the process of setting the prices of all the items is not established yet. To solve this problem, we adopt a mixed model that combines three typical pricing models: cost-plus model, competition-oriented model, and demand-oriented model. Since each model an be converted to a set of constraints in point and interval forms, solving the pricing problem with the three groups of models requires an algorithm which can solve the problem with weighted constraints of intervals and points. So we have devised an algorithm named “Point Determination Algorithm”. From the rules that represents tile models, the constraints are extracted to be solvable by tile Point Determination Algorithm. A prototype KAPA (Knowledge Assisted pricing Advisor) is developed with this idea using the expert system environment UNIK - a tool developed by KAIST. According to the experiment with 76 items in comparison with 53 human pricing experts we confirmed that the KAPA can perform highly consistent with human experts. This implies KAPA system is applicable to pricing millions of items dynamically.

  • For an undirected stochastic network G, the 2-terminal reliability of G, R(G) is the probability that the specific two nodes (called as terminal nodes) are connected in G. A. typical network reliability problem is to compute R(G). It has been shown that the computation problem of R(G) is NP-hard. So, any algorithm to compute R(G) has a runngin time which is exponential in the size of G. If by some means, the problem size, G is reduced, it can result in immense savings. The means to reduce the size of the problem are the reliability preserving reductions and graph decompositions. We introduce a net set of reliability preserving reductions : the $K^{4}$ (complete graph of 4-nodes)-chain reductions. The total number of the different $K^{4}$ types in R(G), is 6. We present the reduction formula for each $K^{4}$ type. But in computing R(G), it is possible that homeomorphic graphs from $K^{4}$ occur. We devide the homemorphic graphs from $K^{4}$ into 3 types. We develop the reliability preserving reductions for s types, and show that the remaining one is divided into two subgraphs which can be reduced by $K^{4}$-chain reductions 7 polygon-to-chain reductions.

  • This study defines the Next Generation System(NGS) built by domestic financial businesses and classifies their architecture into two typical types according to the duration of the project and the relative cost of IT investment in the short term: the Big Bang approach and the Phase approach. Herein, we study the two approaches as alternatives in developing the Next Generation System, and derive the factors that are to be considered in the evaluation of the two alternatives for financial businesses. The set of standards for the choice between the two models are grouped into categories that constitute performance evaluation for IT - Cost, Performance and Risk. We drill down further into each category to second and third subordinate levels to derive detailed selection criteria. Based on the criteria drawn from the study, we conduct a survey with information system planners, IT managers and specialists at financial companies who are currently planning, developing or have completed a Next Generation System. Survey results are analyzed using the AHP methodology to compare and understand the different approach in the implementation of NGS for financial business.

  • As a preparatory study for Global Positioning System-Very Long Baseline Interferometry (GPS-VLBI) hybrid system, we examined if VLBI type observation of the GPS signal is realizable through a test experiment. The test experiment was performed between Kashima and Koganei, Japan, with 110 km baseline. The GPS L1 and L2 signals were received by commercial GPS antennas, down-converted to video-band signals by specially developed GPS down converters, and then sampled by VLBI samplers. The sampled GPS data were recorded as ordinary VLBI data by VLBI recorders. The sampling frequency was 64 MHz and the observation time was 1 minute. The recorded data were correlated by a VLBI correlator. From correlation results, we simultaneously obtained correlation fringes from all 8 satellites above a cut-off elevation which was set to 15 degree. 87.5% of L1 fringes and 12.5% of L2 fringes acquired the Signal to Noise Ratios which are sufficient to achieve the group delay precision of 0.1nsec that is typical in current geodetic VLBI. This result shows that VLBI type observation of GPS satellites will be readily realized in future GPS-VLBI hybrid system.
