Variation in Depth Dose Data between Open and Wedge Fields for 6 MV X-Rays (6MV X선에 있어서 쇄기형 조사야와 개방 조사야 사이의 깊이 선량률의 차이)

  • Central axis depth dose data for 6 MV X-rays, including tissue maximum ratios, were measured for wedge fields according to Tatcher's equation. In wedge fields, the differences in magnitude which increased with depth, field size, and wedge thickness increased when compared with the corresponding open field data. However, phantom scatter correction factors for wedge fields differed less than $1\%$ from the corresponding open field factors. The differences in central axis percent depth dose between two types of fields indicated beam hardening by the wedge filter The deviation of percent depth doses and scatter correction factors between the effective wedge field and the nominal wedge field at same angle was negligible. The differences were less than $3.20\%$ between the nominal or effective wedge fields and the open fields for percent depth doses to the depth 7cm in $6cm{\times}6cm$ field. For larger $(10cm{\times}10cm)$ field size, however, the deviation of percnet depth doses between the nominal or effective wedge fields and the open fields were greater-dosimetric errors were $3.56\%$ at depth 7cm and nearly $5.30\%$ at 12cm. We suggest that the percent depth doses of individual wedge and wedge transmission factors should be considered for the dose calculation or monitor setting in the treatment of deep seated tumor.

The Effect of the Resistance of Wedge Frame on the Clamping Force of the Rail Clamp (쐐기프레임의 저항력이 레일클램프의 압착력에 미치는 영향)

  • The damping force of a jaw pad is determined by the displacements of main part when two lockers are locked, after the damping angle of a locker was set up in the wedge type rail damp for a container crane. In this time, of the resistance of wedge frame generates due to several factors, the damping angle of a locker to display the initial clamping force will be changed because of the reduction of displacement of extension bar. This resistance is determined by the eccentric distance between the roller and the wedge, and by the gap between the wedge frame and outer frame. In this study we measured the tensile force of both extension bar through the performance test of the prototype rail damp in order to evaluate the effect of the resistance of wedge frame on the damping force of the wedge type rail clamp.

An Experimental Study on the Liquefaction Behavior under Various Loading Conditions (다양한 입력하중에서의 액상화 발생 특성 비교 연구)

  • Liquefaction characteristics of saturated sand under various dynamic loadings such as sinusoidal, wedge, increasing wedge and real earthquake loading are investigated focusing on the excess pore water pressure build up instead of liquefaction resistance strength in this paper. There are large differences between two types of earthquake loading - impact and vibration in liquefaction characteristics. The angle of phase change line of sinusoidal loading is very close to the vibration type, whereas the cumulative deviator stress and cumulative plastic strain are larger than two types of real earthquake loadings. On the other hand, the liquefaction characteristics of increasing wedge loadings are located in the range between vibration and impact earthquake loadings. It is concluded that the sinusoidal loading overestimates the resistance of soil under real earthquake loading. Based on results obtained, the increasing wedge loading can reflect the liquefaction behavior under real earthquake loadings more efficiently than sinusoidal loading based on equivalent uniform stress concept.

  • Conventional ultrasonic thickness measurement is to be considered as the assumption that the ultrasonic velocity is known. In actual applications the velocity is often not well known and access is often limited to one side. This paper aims at determining the ultrasonic velocity and thickness of plates with parallel or wedged surfaces using contact measurements made on one surface only. For wedged plates the thickness at one point and the wedge angle are determined. Equations are used for determining the ultrasonic velocity, thickness and wedge angle of the plate based on the times-of-flight measured by two contact transducers coupled to one surface. The time-of-flight of the obliquely reflected longitudinal wave echo was measured as a function of the separation between the two transducers. In addition, a simulation was made for comparing the experimental data and a FEM image. Experiments and simulations were performed on flat and wedged plates of aluminium materials; the calculated results for the unknown quantities are generally agreed with them to some degree.

  • For a based, 1-connected, finite CW-complex X, we denote by $\varepsilon(X)$ the group of homotopy classes of self-homotopy equivalences of X and by $\varepsilon_#\;^{dim+r}(X)$ the subgroup of homotopy classes which induce the identity on the homotopy groups of X in dimensions $\leq$ dim X+r. In this paper, we calculate the subgroups $\varepsilon_#\;^{dim+r}(X)$ when X is a wedge of two Moore spaces determined by cyclic groups and in consecutive dimensions.

  • We investigate the critical issue on how the BBF (bursty bulk flow) is related to the substorm current wedge formation. Observationally, after analysing data sets from Geotail spacecraft at near tail and many ground magnetic observatories for 9 months period of 1996, we find three BBF events that clearly occurred at the center of the wedge with region I type FAC (field-aligned current), and two other BBF events that were seen outside the wedge sector. Theoretically, we suggest that the substorm current wedge generation by BBF is most likely when the h' VB contribution is dominant in the well-known MHD $J_{II}$ expression (Vasyliunaus, 1984) or when the divergence of the cross-tail current carried by the particle's gradient/curvature drift is predominantly sufficient at the moment of the BBF arrival at near tail.

  • Let K be a fan-like simplicial sphere of dimension n-1 such that its associated complete fan is strongly polytopal, and let v be a vertex of K. Let K(v) be the simplicial wedge complex obtained by applying the simplicial wedge operation to K at v, and let $v_0$ and $v_1$ denote two newly created vertices of K(v). In this paper, we show that there are infinitely many strongly polytopal fans ${\Sigma}$ over such K(v)'s, different from the canonical extensions, whose projected fans ${Proj_v}_i{\Sigma}$ (i = 0, 1) are also strongly polytopal. As a consequence, it can be also shown that there are infinitely many projective toric varieties over such K(v)'s such that toric varieties over the underlying projected complexes $K_{{Proj_v}_i{\Sigma}}$ (i = 0, 1) are also projective.

Effect of Differential Pressure on the Performance of Motor Operated Flexible Wedge Gate Valve (차압이 모터구동 Flexible Wedge형 게이트밸브의 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • The mechanism of power transmission from motor torque to stem thrust and the operation characteristic of each stroke position are analyzed using the diagnostic signal, and effects of differential pressure on the performance of motor operated flexible wedge gate valve are investigated. Test facility consists of 76 mm motor operated valve(flexible wedge type), pump and pipe system. Static and dynamic test are performed separately, and two differential pressure conditions are applied in the dynamic test. To evaluate the performance of valve, test signals for the torque, thrust, current, voltage and stroke length are acquired by using UDS which is diagnosis device for motor operated valve, and each diagnostic signal is analyzed and compared. The characteristic of valve performance factors such as stem factor, rate of loading, valve factor, are evaluated, and these factors are found to be severely influenced by the fluid differential pressure.
