  • In this study, we researched how to estimate life-stress relationship and acceleration factor through performing accelerated life test and analyzing it. The purpose of this study is to predict life of pneumatic cylinder within short time which is widely used in automation manufacturing line. In design of accelerated life test, we selected operating pressure and load that have the most influence on main failure mode of pneumatic cylinder as accelerated factor. We used two-way factorial design for arranging of test condition to accelerated factor and accelerated level.

  • High-speed machining is one of the most effective technologies to improve productivity. Because of the high speed and high feed rate, high-speed machining can give great advantages for the machining of dies and molds. This paper describes on the improvement of machining accuracy in high-speed machining. Depth of cut, feed rate and spindle revolution are control factors. The effect of the control factors on machining accuracy is investigated using two-way factorial design.

  • Evaluations of fashion products are often influenced by consumers' knowledge of the country where the products were made in. As globalization progresses, country-of-origin information is widely regarded as a powerful cue on consumers' shopping behavior. The purpose of study was to examine the consumer evaluation of apparel products with uni-national or bi-national country of origin. The effect of price level and gender were also investigated. The empirical research design took 2${\times}$2 factorial design with the country-of-origin coincidence (uni-national vs. bi-national) and price (high vs. low) of gender (male vs. female). Consumers' ethnocentrism and country-of-origin interest were taken into account as covariates in the factorial design. The consumers' evaluation of fashion products was measured in terms of brand attitudes and product attitudes. Data from 514 respondents were analyzed with t-test, one-way ANOVA, two-way ANOVA, and ANCOVA. Results of this study affirmed the importance of price information rather than country-of-origin coincidence in brand attitudes and product attitudes. Only for male consumers, interaction effects of price and country-of-origin coincidence had significant eflects on utilitarian attitude. Effects of two covariate variables included in the study were significant for female respondents but not for male respondents.

  • The research presents an application of Balanced ANOVA (BANOVA) by utilizing randomized orders for various Split-Plot Designs (SPDs) which include two cell designs, split-plot with one-way HTC (Hard to Control) factor, split-plot with two-way HTC factor, split-split-plot design and nested design. In addition, four MINITAB examples of 2-level split-plot designs based on the number of blocks and the type of whole-plots are presented for practitioners to obtain comprehensive understanding. Furthermore, the geometrical interrelated properties among three typical Designs of Experiments (DOE), such as Factorial Design (FD), Response Surface Design (RSD), and Mixture Design (MD) are discussed in this paper.

  • Welding is very popular method for joining two or more metals. In this paper, the three-way factorial design was adopted for obtaining the optimum friction stir welding conditions of Al 5052 alloy. Tools of shoulder diameter of 9, 12, 15 mm and pin length of 1.5 mm were used. Also the material's dimension for welding was $100{\times}100{\times}2mm$, and the tensile specimens were worked by water-jet technique. Welding variables were shoulder diameter, rotating speed of tool and welding speed. As far as this work is concerned, optimum condition for friction stir joint of Al 5052 alloy was predicted as the shoulder diameter of 15 mm, welding speed of 500mm/min and rotating speed of 1000 rpm. In addition, the presumed range of tensile strength under the optimal conditions is estimated to be $208.3{\pm}5.7$ MPa with 99% reliability.

  • For the construction of fractional factorial designs, the various arrays can be widely used. In this paper we review the statistical properties of fractional designs constructed by two arrays such as orthogonal array and partially balanced array, and develop a quick and easy method for analyzing unreplicated saturated designs. The proposed method can be characterized that we control the error rate by experiment-wise way and exploit the multivariate Student $t$-distribution. Especially the proposed method can be used efficiently together with some exploratory analysis methods, such as half normal probability plot method.

  • Friction stir welding is a solid-state joining process and is useful for joining dissimilar metal sheets. In this study, the experimental conditions of the friction stir welding were determined by the two-way factorial design to evaluate the characteristics of the dissimilar friction stir welding of AZ31 and AZ61 magnesium alloys. The levels of rotation speed and welding speed, which are welding variables, were 1000, 2000, 3000 rpm and 100, 200, 300 mm/min, respectively. From the results, the greater the rotation speed and the lower the welding speed of the tool were, the greater the tensile strength of the welded part was. The contribution of the welding speed of the tool is larger than that of the rotation speed of the tool. In addition, the optimal conditions for tensile strength in the dissimilar friction stir joint were predicted to be the rotation speed of 3000 rpm and welding speed of 100 mm/min, and the tensile strength under the optimal conditions was estimated to be $214{\pm}6.57Mpa$ with 99% reliability.

  • Low sustained voltage $(V_s)$ and high luminous efficiency (lumen/Watts) are required for the enhanced performance of an AC PDP. Both are not realized in the same condition, however, because luminous efficiency decreases when the sustained voltage is lowered in most cases. In this study, the three design factors in the front panel of a PDP, i.e., the thickness and position of the bus electrode and the thickness of the dielectric layer, were chosen to investigate how they affect the sustained voltage and the luminous efficiency, and to find a way to optimize them. Two values were given to each of the three design factors, and experiments were done via full factorial design, i.e., with a total of eight conditions, using a 3-in.diagonal test panel. The changes in the sustained voltage and the luminous characteristics were explained in connection with the discharge characteristics of the PDP cells.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of uniform's color and motif on nurse's impression formation. The experimental design was 5×3×2(uniform color×motif ×perceiver's gender) factorial design with a between-subjects design. The experimental materials developed for the study were a set of stimuli and a response scale. The subjects were 738 undergraduate students of Daejon and Chungnam province. The SPSS package was used for data analysis which includes factor analysis, two-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, and Cronbach's α to measure the reliability. Results were as follows; The image or the stimulus was consisted of the 4 different dimensions(evaluation, sociability, ability, potency). All the independent variables showed some significant impression effects on selected dimensions. The motif and perceiver's gender also showed significant main effects as well as some interaction effects with the color variable on some selected impression dimension and the impression effects of the three variables in relationship to perceiving nurses' images. On a conclusion, these results supported the Gestalt theory.
