  • This study is concerned with the critical evaluation of predicative capability of a k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model using the Renormalization Group(RNG) theory. The present numerical model for solution of the Navier-Stokes System is based on the modified PISO algorithms. Computations have been performed with the RNG-based K-$\varepsilon$ model for the two-dimensional flow over a backward-facing step, a confined coaxial jet, and a swirling flow in a swirl combustor. Numerical results are compared with experimental data in terms of mean flow velocities, turbulent kinetic energy, and turbulent stresses. Numerical results clearly indicate that the RNG-based K-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model shows a significant improvement over a standard K-$\varepsilon$ model in predicting the turbulent flows with flow separation and swirl.

  • A series of alternating and alternating block copolycarbonates containing the constituent groups of polysulfone was synthesized through a multi-step solution condensation method. For the regulation of block length, monodisperse oligomers were prepared by using a large excess of the bisphenols and were subsequently incorporated into the copolymer chains. Separating the unreacted bisphenols from the oligomers by dissolution/precipitation steps took advantage of solubility differences. The structures of the monomers, oligomers, and copolymers were characterized and confirmed by GPC, NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. Monodispersity of the oligomers, which is critical for control over the block length in the copolymers, was confirmed by GPC and mass spectrometry. Of the two constituent groups of the polysulfone, the sulfone linkage stiffens the polycarbonate copolymer chain, while the ether linkage softens it.

  • In many project-oriented production systems, e. g., shipyards or large-scale steel products manufacturing, resource loading by an activity is flexible, and the activity duration is a function of resource allocation. For example, if one doubles the size of the crew assigned to perform an activity, it may be feasible to complete the activity in half the duration. Such flexibility has been modeled by Weglarz [13] and by Leachman, Dincerler, and Kim [7[ in extended formulations of the resource-constrained poject scheduling problem. This paper presents a new algorithmic approach to the problem that combines the ideas proposed by the aforementioned authors. The method we propose involves a two-step approach : (1) solve the resource-constrained scheduling problem using a heuristic, and (2) using this schedule as an initial feasible solution, find improved resource allocations by solving a linear programming model. We provide computational results indicating the superiority of this approach to previous methodology for the resource-constrained scheduling problem. Extensions to the model to admit overlap relationship of the activities also are presented.

  • 분산 송전송실정보에 의한 전력시스템의 경제운용=The transmission loss information produced in a line may be shared by both end buses connected to the line. Then, the loss may be seen as if it is discretely produced at both buses. Likewise, all transmission losses can be considered as if they are discretely produced at every bus distributed. The bus transmission loss equation can be defined, in which the loss information about connected lines are contained. This formulation can greatly enhance the computational efficiency for the economic control of both real powers and voltages. It requires solutions of two linear matrix equations, one for the calculation of incremental transmission losses and the other for the determination of voltage levels to be controlled. The Proposed approach is demonstrated through three sample systems and it is found that the solutions can be obtained after three iterations regardless of system sizes. This implies that only one-step search would be required for the solution if real informations would be available. Results are compared with those of optimal power flows.

  • This paper presents a dynamic simulation of the unified power flow controller (UPFC) using a current injection method. Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices give more flexibility of control for security and economic operation of power systems. Diffculties of modeling UPFC in the conventional dynamic simulation programs arise from the fact that the injected voltage by the series inverter is superimposed on the shunt inverter side voltage. A solution can be a current injection method, in which a serial part of UPFC is converted to a parallel equivalent circuit using source transformation, and two current sources affect each other at every time step. To verify efficiency of this method, the proposed model is applied for the transient analysis of an example power system.

  • A novel diamine monomer, containing fluorine and phosphine oxide, bis(3-aminophenyl) 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl phosphine oxide (mDA6FPPO), was prepared via Grignard reaction, and utilized to prepare polyimides with dianhydrides such as PMDA, 6FDA, BTDA or ODPA, by the conventional two-step route; preparation of poly(amic acid), followed by solution imidization. The polyimides were characterized by FT-IR, NMR, and DSC with intrinsic viscosity and refractive index also being evaluated. A phosphine oxide containing monomer, bis(3-aminophenyl)phenyl phosphine oxide (mDAPPO) and a commercial 3,3-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (mDDS) were also used for comparison. The polyimides derived from mDA6FPPO exhibited high T$\sub$g/, excellent solubility and low birefringence.

  • The principal context of this research is the approach to an artificial neural network algorithm which solves multivariable nonlinear equation systems by estimating the state of line power flow. First a dynamical neural network with feedback is used to find the minimum value of the objective function at each iteration of the state estimator algorithm. In second step a two-layer neural network structures is derived to implement all of the different matrix-vector products that arise in neural network state estimator analysis. For hardware requirements, as they relate to the total number of internal connections, the architecture developed here preserves in its structure the pronounced sparsity of power networks for which state the estimator analysis is to be carried out. A principal feature of the architecture is that the computing time overheads in solution are independent of the dimensions or structure of the equation system. It is here where the ultrahigh-speed of massively parallel computing in neural networks can offer major practical benefit.

  • In this paper, we report on photoelectrochemical etching process of 6H-SiC semiconductor wafer. The etching was performed in two-step process; anodization of SiC surface to form a deep porous layer and thermal oxidation followed by an HF dip. Etch rate of about 615${\AA}$/min was obtained during the anodization using a dilute HF(1.4wt% in H$_2$O) electrolyte with the etching potential of 3.0V. The etching rate was increased with the bias voltage. It was also found out that the adition of appropriate portion of H$_2$O$_2$ into the HF solution improves the etching rate. The etching process resulted in a higherly anisotropic etching characteristics and showed to have a potential for the fabrication of SiC devices with a novel design.

  • This paper is about to the branch topology error identification in electric power systems. Topology errors may cause the state estimators to converge to a wrong solution or in some cases not to converge at all. The branch error identification is carried out as part of the state estimation procedure. The basic idea is that the estimates of these error variables will be insignificant if the branch is modeled correctly and they will be relatively large otherwise. A two step procedure for the identification of faulted branches is proposed.

  • In this paper the dynamic analysis of the Macpherson strut motor-vehicle suspension system is presented. The equations of motion are formulated using a two-step transformation. Initially, the equations of motion are derived for a dynamically equivalent constrained system of particles that replaces the rigid bodies by applying Newton's second law The equations of motion are then transformed to a reduced set in terms of the relative joint variables. Use of both Cartesian and joint variables produces an efficient set of equations without loss of generality For open chains, this process automatically eliminates all of the non-working constraint forces and leads to an efficient solution and integration of the equations of motion. For closed loops, suitable joints should be cut and few cut-joints constraint equations should be included for each closed chain. The chosen suspension includes open and closed loops with quarter-car model. The results of the simulation indicate the simplicity and generality of the dynamic formulation.
