  • The electrochemical impulse oscillations of the cathodic currents at the platinum group (Pt, Pd) electrode/(0.05M KHC$_{8}H_{4}O_{4}$) buffer solution interfaces have been studied using voltammetric, chronoamperometric, and electrochemical impedance methods. The periodic impulses of the cathodic currents are the activation controlled currents due to the hydrogen evolution reaction, and depend on the fractional surface coverage of the adsorbed hydrogen intermediate and potential. The oscillatory mechanism of the cathodic current impulses is connected with the unstable steady state of negative differential resistance. The widths and periods of the cathodic current impulses are 4ms or 5ms and 152.5ms or 305ms, respectively. The H$^{+}$ discharge reaction step is 38 or 61 times faster thatn the recombination reaction steps and the H$^{+}$ mass transport processes. The atom-atom recombination reaction step is twice faster thatn the atom-ion recombination reaction step. The two kinds of active sites corresponding to the atom-atom and atom-ion recombination reaction steps exist on the platinum group electrode surfaces.

스타이너 트리 문제를 위한 Mar-Min Ant Colony Optimization (A Max-Min Ant Colony Optimization for Undirected Steiner Tree Problem in Graphs)

  • The undirected Steiner tree problem in graphs is known to be NP-hard. The objective of this problem is to find a shortest tree containing a subset of nodes, called terminal nodes. This paper proposes a method based on a two-step procedure to solve this problem efficiently. In the first step. graph reduction rules eliminate useless nodes and edges which do not contribute to make an optimal solution. In the second step, a max-min ant colony optimization combined with Prim's algorithm is developed to solve the reduced problem. The proposed algorithm is tested in the sets of standard test problems. The results show that the algorithm efficiently presents very correct solutions to the benchmark problems.

  • A numerical model for the solution of two-dimensional dam break problems using fractional step method is developed on unstructured grid. The model is based on second-order Weighted Averaged Flux(WAF) scheme with HLLC approximate Riemann solver. To control the nonphysical oscillations associated with second-order accuracy, TVD scheme with SUPERBEE limiter is used. The developed model is verified by comparing the computational solutions with analytic solutions in idealized test cases. Very good agreements have been achieved in the verifications.

Truss structure damage identification using residual force vector and genetic algorithm

  • In this paper, damage detection has been introduced as an optimization problem and a two-step method has been proposed that can detect the location and severity of damage in truss structures precisely and reduce the volume of computations considerably. In the first step, using the residual force vector concept, the suspected damaged members are detected which will result in a reduction in the number of variables and hence a decrease in the search space dimensions. In the second step, the precise location and severity of damage in the members are identified using the genetic algorithm and the results of the first step. Considering the reduced search space, the algorithm can find the optimal points (i.e. the solution for the damage detection problem) with less computation cost. In this step, the Efficient Correlation Based Index (ECBI), that considers the structure's first few frequencies in both damaged and healthy states, is used as the objective function and some examples have been provided to check the efficiency of the proposed method; results have shown that the method is innovatively capable of detecting damage in truss structures.

  • 1,3-Diphenylguanidine (DPG) is commonly used as a secondary accelerator which not only acts as booster of cure but also activating silanization reaction. The aim of this study is to increase the interaction between silica and rubber by using DPG. In this study, mixing was proceeded in two steps. The T-1 compound is mixed DPG with silica and silane coupling agent in the kneader at high temperature which is named as $1^{st}$ mixing step. T-3 compound is mixed DPG with curatives in the two-roll mill at low temperature which is named as $2^{nd}$ mixing step. The T-2 compound is mixed a half of DPG in $1^{st}$ mixing step and the remainder is mixed in $2^{nd}$ mixing step. Total DPG content was equal for all compounds. When DPG is mixed with silica, silane coupling agent during the $1^{st}$ mixing step, a decrease in cure rate and an increase in scorch time can be seen. This indicates that DPG is adsorbed on the surface of silica. during rubber processing. However, bound rubber content is increased and dynamic properties are improved. These results are due to the highly accelerated silanization reaction. However, there are no significant difference in 100%, 300% modulus.

Study of the flow around a cylinder from the subcritical to supercritical regimes

  • The objective of the present simulations is to evaluate the applicability of the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model in engineering practice in the subcritical to supercritical flow regimes. Two-dimensional numerical simulations of flow around a circular cylinder at $Re=1{\times}10^5$, $5{\times}10^5$ and $1{\times}10^6$, had been performed using Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes (URANS) equations with the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. Solution verification had been studied by evaluating grid and time step size convergence. For each Reynolds number, several meshes with different grid and time step size resolutions were chosen to calculate the hydrodynamic quantities such as the time-averaged drag coefficient, root-mean square value of lift coefficient, Strouhal number, the coefficient of pressure on the downstream point of the cylinder, the separation angle. By comparing the values of these quantities of adjacent grid or time step size resolutions, convergence study has been performed. Solution validation is obtained by comparing the converged results with published numerical and experimental data. The deviations of the values of present simulated quantities from those corresponding experimental data become smaller as Reynolds numbers increases from $1{\times}10^5$ to $1{\times}10^6$. This may show that the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model with enhanced wall treatment appears to be applicable for higher Reynolds number turbulence flow.

  • Accurate prediction of the transmission loss of dissipative silencers has been considered difficult due to the ambiguity and complexity in the physical properties of sound absorbing materials. Additional difficulty lies in the fact that the analytical calculation of the propagation constant is unknown yet. In this paper. as a first step toward obtaining the Propagation constant and thus predicting the transmission loss, an approximation equation stemming from the wave analysis in the lined interior has been derived. Such an analytical solution and numerical solution using the boundary element method are compared for a two-dimensional simple dissipative silencer under the assumption of the locally reacting sound absorbent.

토마토 뿌리조직으로부터 두 단계 삼투압 처리에 의한 원형질체의 분리 (Isolation of Protoplasts from Tomato Root by Two-step Osmotic Treatment)

  • 이온채널의 활성을 포함한 세포의 생리활성을 측정하기 위하여 토마토의 뿌리조직으로부터 원형질체를 분리하였다. 일반적으로 널리 사용되는 원형질체 분리법은 뿌리조직의 경우 효율이 좋지 않았다. 따라서, 다양한 조건을 변화시키며 분리효율을 조사하던 중 두 단계의 삼투압 처리로 원형질체 분리효율이 높아짐을 확인하였다. 첫 단계로 뿌리조직을 300 mM sorbitol을 포함하는 용액에서 30분간 배양한 후, 700 mM sorbitol과 세포벽 분해효소를 포함하는 용액으로 옮겼을 때, 원형질체 형성은 급격히 증가하였다. 이러한 분리방법의 최적 조건을 결정하기 위하여 pH와 삼투압, 배양시간, 세포벽 분해효소의 농도 등을 조사하였다. 원형질체 분리의 수율은 3% cellulase와 1% macerozyme, 0.1% pectolyase를 포함하는 pH 5.0의 혼합효소액에서 2시간 배양할 때 최대로 나타났다. ATPase 활성으로 평가한 원형질체의 세포활성은 뿌리조직의 시료에서 측정한 간과 유사하였다. 또한, 분리한 원형질체의 세포활성은 4시간 동안 감소하지 않아 생리활성 측정을 위한 시료로 적합하였다. 본 결과는 두 단계 삼투압 처리법이 토마토 뿌리조직으로부터 높은 수율의 원형질체 분리에 성공적임을 보인다.

대용량 데이터베이스에서 다차원 인덱스를 사용한 효율적인 다단계 k-NN 검색 (Efficient Multi-Step k-NN Search Methods Using Multidimensional Indexes in Large Databases)

  • 본 논문에서는 다차원 인덱스 기반 다단계 k-NN 검색의 성능 향상 문제를 다룬다. 기존 다단계 k-NN 검색에서는 고차원 객체의 저차원 변환으로 인한 정보 손실로 k-NN 질의 결과 매우 큰 허용치(검색 범위)가 결정되어 범위 질의 결과로 많은 후보가 검색된다. 또한, 많은 후보는 후처리 과정에서 매우 많은 I/O 및 CPU 오버헤드를 발생시킨다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 고찰에 기반하여 범위 질의의 허용치를 줄여 후보 개수를 줄이고 이를 통해 성능을 향상시키는 방법을 제안한다. 먼저, k-NN 질의 결과로 결정된 허용치를 고차원 및 저차원 객체간 거리 비율로 강제 축소하여 범위 질의에 사용하는 허용치 축소 (근사적) 해결책을 제안한다. 다음으로, k-NN 질의 계수 k 대신 c k 를 사용하여 얻은 보다 타이트(tight)한 허용치로 범위 질의를 수행하는 계수 제어 (정확한) 해결책을 제안한다. 실제 객체 데이터를 사용하여 실험한 결과, 제안한 두 가지 해결책은 기존 다단계 k-NN 검색에 비해 후보 개수와 검색 시간 모두를 크게 향상시킨 것으로 나타났다.

스텝 하중을 받는 공간 트러스 시스템의 멀티스텝 테일러 급수 해석과 동적 불안정 (Dynamic Instability and Multi-step Taylor Series Analysis for Space Truss System under Step Excitation)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 비선형 불연속 시스템인 공간 트러스에 멀티스텝 테일러 해법을 적용하는 것과 비선형 동적 응답 및 불안정 특성을 분석하는 것이다. 해석적 접근에 기초한 보다 정밀한 해는 공간 구조물의 역 문제나 또는 불안정 문제를 다루는데 매우 필요하며, 이는 지배방정식의 비선형성에 기인한다. 따라서 기하학적 비선형을 고려하여 지배 운동 방정식을 유도하였으며, 테일러 해법을 이용하여 정밀한 해석적 해를 구하였다. 해석 방법의 정밀도 검증을 위해서 단일자유도 모델을 채택하였으며, 테일러 해법을 이용한 결과를 4차 룬게-쿠타 법과 비교하였다. 또한, 스텝 하중을 받는 모델의 동적 불안정과 좌굴 특성을 고찰하였다. 두 해석 방법의 비교 결과는 매우 잘 일치하였고, 동적 응답과 위상공간에서의 끌개는 스텝하중 아래에서의 동적 좌굴 현상과, 모델에 감쇠가 미치는 영향을 잘 설명할 수 있음을 보여주었다. 해석결과에서 비감쇠 시스템과 감쇠 시스템의 동적 좌굴 하중 레벨은 각각 정적 좌굴 하중 레벨의 약 77%와 83%의 범위로 나타났다.
