In this paper conventional technique will be described, which can be used for the measuring various parameters of induction motor. This is followed by presenting some other, alternative, techniques. The two tests are described which are suitable to obtain the electrical parameters of symmetrical 1hp three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor. These are the blocked rotor test and no load test. By the application of these, it is possible to determine the parameters which are presented in the steady-state equivalent-circuit of determining an induction motor. One conventional method of determining the inertia of an induction motors is obtained by performing retardation tests. The angular rotor speed of the motor is monitored, following its disconnection from the stator supply. Since the inertia torque J dw/dt contains the inertia coefficient J and the friction and windage torque Bw contains the coefficient B, then J and B can be determined by performing retardation tests.
This paper presents the comparison of starting current characteristics of a three-phase induction motor fed by two types of soft starters. The first soft starter under investigation is a conventional AC voltage controller on the basis of a phase-control technique. The other is the proposed asynchronous PWM AC chopper which is developed from the conventional synchronous PWM AC chopper. In this paper, the proposed asynchronous PWM AC chopper control scheme is developed by generating only two asynchronous PWM signals for a three-phase main power circuit (6 switching devices) from a single voltage control signal which is compared with a single sawtooth carrier signal. By this approach, the PWM signals are independent and easy to implement since the PWM signals do not need to be synchronized with a three-phase voltage source. Details of both soft starters are discussed. The experimental and simulation results of the starting currents are shown. It is found that the asynchronous PWM AC chopper efficiently works as a suitable soft starter for the three-phase induction motor due to that the starting currents are reduced and are sinusoidal with less harmonic contents, when being compared with the starting current waveforms using the conventional phase-control starting technique. Also the proposed soft starter offers low starting electromagnetic torque pulsation.
This paper investigated the speed sensorless indirect vector control of a two-phase induction motor to implement adjustable-speed drive for low-power applications. The sliding mode observer estimates rotor speed. The convergence of the nonlinear time-varying observer along with the asymptotic stability of the controller was analyzed. To define the control action which maintains the motion on the sliding manifold, an 'equivalent control' concept was used. It was simulated and implemented on a sensorless indirect vector drive for 150W two-phase induction motor. The simulation and experimental results demonstrated effectiveness of the estimation method.

In general, the parallel-connected linear induction motors(LIM) are fed by one VVVF inverter in the magnetically levitated vehicle(MAGLEV) or linear motor subway drives. The air gap length of the parallel-connected linear induction motors operating at a grade or curved sections can be different each other. The air gap difference of the two motors attached to the same module causes unequal phase currents, asymmetic thrust and attraction force generation. In this paper, parellel-connected linear induction motors are operated by one IGBT inverter under the different air gap condition so that the phase current characteristics are examined experimentally.

This paper discusses to the capability improvement of the 1/4 HP compressor. And, for efficiency improvement of the single phase induction motor, this paper has proposed a casting method to improving the fill factor of the rotor of the single phase induction motor. First, by using FEM, it was analyzed the magnetic flux distribution and the fill factor to the SPIM rotor by the conventional method and the proposed method. And, based on the FEM analysis results, SPIMs are manufactured by the each casting process. Through experiments using dynamometer, they were compared and measured to their efficiencies. In addition, through experiments using Calorimeter, we have analyzed the refrigerating capacity of the compressor of which they were applied. Based on the results of the previous two experiments, they are to verify the validity of the proposed method.
The foundation for the theoretical establishment of the linear motor lies in the investigation of the magnetic flux distribution in its airgaps. Generally speaking, the linear motor is similar, in the principle of its operation, to the general induction motor. However, there are great differences in the aspects of its structure and characteristics, especially, in the fact that the formation of its travelling magnetic field depends on the method of its winding. This paper is written in order to introduce the method of calculating the air gap magnetic flux distribution on the basis of its ampere-conductor in the case that 2 phase winding is applied on its open magnetic circuit iron core, and to present the results of investigation of the pulsation in its travelling fields. the first and second example of winding show the case of travelling magnetic field with the constant amplitude except the end region. The third example deals with the configuration of coil-side displaced outside the core and which produce the increased flux density at the ends, but, on the contrary, forms the pulsated travelling field.

In this paper the novel pulsewidth modulation(PWM) technique for the two-leg and four-leg two-phase inverter is proposed. The conventional space vector PWM technique for two-phase inverter was complex. The proposed PWM for two-leg inverter, which is used by sinusoidal PWM method, is simpler than the conventional SVPWU technique. Also, a simple PWM technique for four-leg two-phase inverter is proposed. Such PWM technique is based on PWM technique for two-leg inverter. Practical verification of theoretical predictions is presented to confirm the capabilities of the new techniques.

The single phase induction motor is recently requested to meet a broad speed control and smooth forward and reverse operation due to the multifarious usages. This paper deals with two phase operation of a two winding motor by reference current adaptive inverter which can supply the currents to satisfy the balanced oeration into the main and auxiliary winding through the entire operational region. According to the roposed system, the starting, forward and reverse and variable speed control of a two winding motor eliminated the capacitor from the capacitor-run motor is also possible. The formation and its principle of the reference current adaptive inverter and characteristic analysis of the motor fed by this apparatus are described in this paper. Excellent agreement with the measured results and calculated values by computer simulation is obtained.

This paper presents the implementation of two-arm modulation (TAM) technique for the independent control of a two-induction motor drive fed by a five-leg inverter (FLI). A carrier-based space vector pulse width modulation technique for TAM is proposed to generate switching signals for FLI. Two independent three-phase space vector modulators are utilized to control two motors. The motor drive system applies two separate indirect field-oriented control methods. The stationary voltage outputs from the vector control are synthesized in the three-phase space vector modulator to generate switching signals for FLI. The performance of the independent control of the motors and the voltage utilization factor are likewise analyzed. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method for the independent control of the two-motor drive system. The proposed technique is successfully validated by dSPACE DS1103 experimental work.
