Transparent and stretchable conductors are expected to be an essential component in future stretchable optoelectronic devices. Until now, two main methods have been commonly employed to fabricate transparent and stretchable conductors by using metal nanomaterials: creating buckling configurations and creating network configurations. In this report, a novel strategy for obtaining transparent and stretchable conductors is presented, one that employs these two main approaches simultaneously. To the best of our knowledge, this proposed configuration of a buckled long nanofiber network in this study has not yet been reported. In order to provide the transparent conductors with dual mode stretchability originating from simultaneous buckled and network configurations, a buckled Au@polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanofiber network (hereafter referred to BANN for convenience) was fabricated by transferring Au-metallized electrospun PVP nanofibers onto a prestrained polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate. Our BANN shows considerably lower strain sensitivity of resistance than that of straight Au@PVP nanofiber network. Durability tests conducted by performing cyclic tensile strain reveal that the relative change in resistance of BANN (prestrain = 20%) is quite small after 1000 cycles. We also demonstrate that this BANN exhibits superior performance over widely used indium tin oxide conductors with regard to high optical transmittance and low sheet resistance.
In this paper, we propose an efficient full mesh topology aggregation method in PNNI networks. The proposed scheme can search multi-links efficiently using the depth priority method based on hop count instead of searching the all links. To do this, we propose a modified line segment algorithm using two line segment method that represents two points which consist of delay-bandwidth pair to reduce topology information and provide a flexibility to the multiple-links aggregation. And we apply it to current full mesh topology aggregation. To evaluate performance of the proposed scheme, we compare/analyze the current method with the proposed scheme with respect to call success rate, access time and crank back rate. The result is that the proposed scheme is better than the current scheme in performance.
We propose a new space priority mechanism, and analyze its performance in a single Constant Bit Rate (CBR) server. The arrival process is derived from the superposition of two types of traffics, each in turn results from the superposition of homogeneous ON-OFF sources that can be approximated by means of a two-state Markov Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP). The buffer mechanism enables the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) layer to adapt the quality of the cell transfer to the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements and to improve the utilization of network resources. This is achieved by "Selective-Delaying and Pushing-ln"(SDPI) cells according to the class they belong to. The scheme is applicable to schedule delay-tolerant non-real time traffic and delay-sensitive real time traffic. Analytical expressions for various performance parameters and numerical results are obtained. Simulation results in term of cell loss probability conform with our numerical analysis.

Abstraction applied in computer networking hides network details behind a well-defined representation by building a model that captures an essential aspect of the network system. Two current methods of representation are available, one based on graph theory, where a network node is reduced to a point in a graph, and the other the use of non-methodological iconic depictions such as human heads, walls, towers or computer racks. In this paper, we adopt an abstract representation methodology, the thinging machine (TM), proposed in software engineering to model computer networks. TM defines a single coherent network architecture and topology that is constituted from only five generic actions with two types of arrows. Without loss of generality, this paper applies TM to model the area of network monitoring in packet-mode transmission. Complex network documents are difficult to maintain and are not guaranteed to mirror actual situations. Network monitoring is constant monitoring for and alerting of malfunctions, failures, stoppages or suspicious activities in a network system. Current monitoring systems are built on ad hoc descriptions that lack systemization. The TM model of monitoring presents a theoretical foundation integrated with events and behavior descriptions. To investigate TM modeling's feasibility, we apply it to an existing computer network in a Kuwaiti enterprise to create an integrated network system that includes hardware, software and communication facilities. The final specifications point to TM modeling's viability in the computer networking field.
An external cavity laser supporting two wavelengths is demonstrated by incorporating polymer waveguide Bragg reflectors and a superluminescent light-emitting diode. An oversized rib waveguide structure and Bragg gratings are designed by using the effective-index and transmission-matrix methods. Bragg gratings with different periods are inscribed on a polymer waveguide through double-exposure laser interferometry. In order to tune the cavity loss affected by the reflectivity of Bragg gratings, a Bragg reflectors with varying length is incorporated. Two-wavelength-mode lasing is achieved for the device consisting of 2-mm long, 537-nm period gratings and 2.2-mm long, 540-nm period gratings; the lasing wavelengths are 1554 nm and 1564 nm, with an output power close to 0 dBm, a 20-dB bandwidth of 0.2 nm, and a side-mode suppression ratio of 45 dB.

Estimation of the residual strength of corroded reinforced concrete beams has been studied from experimental and theoretical perspectives. The former is arduous as it involves casting beams of various sizes, which are then subjected to various degrees of corrosion damage. The latter are static; hence cannot be generalized as new coefficients need to be re-generated for new cases. This calls for dynamic models that are adaptive to new cases and offer efficient generalization capability. Computational intelligence techniques have been applied in Construction Engineering modeling problems. However, these techniques have not been adequately applied to the problem addressed in this paper. This study extends the empirical model proposed by Azad et al. (Mag Concr Res 62(6):405-414, 2010), which considered all the adverse effects of corrosion on steel. We proposed four artificial neural networks (ANN) models to predict the residual flexural strength of corroded RC beams using the same data from Azad et al. (2010). We employed two modes of prediction: through the correction factor ($C_f$) and through the residual strength ($M_{res}$). For each mode, we studied the effect of fixed and random data stratification on the performance of the models. The results of the ANN models were found to be in good agreement with experimental values. When compared with the results of Azad et al. (2010), the ANN model with randomized data stratification gave a $C_f$-based prediction with up to 49 % improvement in correlation coefficient and 92 % error reduction. This confirms the reliability of ANN over the empirical models.

3GPP evolved packet system (EPS) is an all-IP based system that supports various access networks such LTE, HSPA/HSPA+, and non-3GPP networks. Recently, the support of IP flows with packet level QoS profiles was added to the requirements of the EPS. This paper proposes an adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme that supports the QoS of such IP flows in the 3G LTE access network of the EPS. Defining the retransmission as a critical factor for QoS, the proposed scheme applies different maximum packet error probability $P_{max}$ to each packet when selecting the AMC transmission mode. In determining $P_{max}$, the QoS constraints and NACK-to-ACK error as well as channel condition are considered, balancing two objectives: the satisfaction of the QoS and the maximization of spectral efficiency. The simulation results show that it is able to reduce both delay violation and status report by 10%, while improving the throughput 10% in comparison with an existing scheme.

In this paper, we focus on the problem of designing an energy efficient MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks and analyze S(Sensor)-MAC and T(Time-out)-MAC. S-MAC is based on the concept of the 'listen/sleep mode cycle'. This applies message passing to reduce contention latency for sensor-network applications that require store-and-forward processing as data moves through the network. However unlike the S-MAC, where the duration of the cycle is fixed, T-MAC introduces an adaptive duty cycle in a novel way: by dynamical ending the active part of it. This reduces the amount of energy wasted on idle listening, in which nodes wait for potentially incoming messages while still maintaining a reasonable throughput. In this paper we discuss the design of these two Protocols. We analyze them from the aspect of latency, throughput, and power savings when using the OMNeT++ simulator in various environments.

Device-to-device (D2D) communication is an excellent technology to improve the system capacity by sharing the spectrum resources of cellular networks. Multicast service is considered as an effective transmission mode for the future mobile social contact services. Therefore, multicast based on D2D technology can exactly improve the spectrum resource efficiency. How to apply D2D technology to support multicast service is a new issue. In this paper, a resource allocation scheme based on cognitive radio (CR) for D2D underlay multicast communication (CR-DUM) is proposed to improve system performance. In the cognitive cellular system, the D2D users as secondary users employing multicast service form a group and reuse the cellular resources to accomplish a multicast transmission. The proposed scheme includes two steps. First, a channel allocation rule aiming to reduce the interference from cellular networks to receivers in D2D multicast group is proposed. Next, to maximize the total system throughput under the condition of interference and noise impairment, we formulate an optimal transmission power allocation jointly for the cellular and D2D multicast communications. Based on the channel allocation, optimal power solution is in a closed form and achieved by searching from a finite set and the interference between cellular and D2D multicast communication is coordinated. The simulation results show that the proposed method can not only ensure the quality of services (QoS), but also improve the system throughput.

Layered video coding schemes allow the video information to be transmitted in multiple video bitstreams to achieve scalability. they are attractive in theory for two reasons. First, they naturally allow for heterogeneity in networks and receivers in terms of client processing capability and network bandwidth. Second, they correspond to optimal utilization of available bandwidth when several video qualify levels are desired. In this paper we propose a scalable video codec architectures with motion estimation, which is suitable for real-time audio and video communication over packet networks. The coding algorithm is compatible with ITU-T recommendation H.263+ and includes various techniques to reduce complexity. Fast motion estimation is Performed at the H.263-compatible base layer and used at higher layers, and perceptual macroblock skipping is performed at all layers before motion estimation. Error propagation from packet loss is avoided by Periodically rebuilding a valid Predictor in Intra mode at each layer.
