The aqua-plasma is the non-thermal plasma in electrical conductive electrolyte by generates the vapor film layer on the immersed metal electrode surface. This plasma can generate the hydroxyl radical by dissociate the water molecule with the plasma electron. To develop the plasma discharge device for high efficiency in the hydroxyl radical generation, proper model for estimation of plasma power is necessary. In this work, the 1-D spherical model was developed, considering temperature dependence material constants. The relation between the plasma power and hydroxyl generation was also studied by the comparison between the optical emission intensity from the hydroxyl radical using monochromator and estimated plasma power. First, the thickness of vapor layer thickness was estimated using the Navier-Stokes fluid equation in order to calculate the discharge E-field inside vapor layer. Using the E-field magnitude and power balance on the plasma generation, it was possible to estimate the plasma power. The plasma power was assumed to uniformly fill the vapor layer and the temperature of vapor layer was fixed in the boiling temperature of electrolyte, 375K. In the experiment, the aqua-plasma was discharged in the saline by applied the voltage on the bipolar electrode. The range of applied voltage was 234 to 280V-rms in the frequency of 380 kHz. Two type electrodes were produced with two ${\Phi}0.2$ tungsten. The plasma power was estimated from the V-I signal from the two high voltage probes and current probe. The estimated plasma power agreed with the profile of emission intensity when the plasma discharged between the metal electrode and vapor layer surface. However, when the plasma discharged between the metal electrodes, the increasing rate of emission intensity was lower than the increase of plasma power. It implies that the surface reaction is more sufficient rather than the volume reaction in the radical generation, due to the high density of water molecule in the liquid.
Performance of first, second and third order accurate methods for calculation of in viscid fluxes in fluid flow governing equations are investigated here. For the purpose, an upwind method based on Roe's scheme is used to solve 2-dimensional Euler equations. To increase the accuracy of the method two different schemes are applied. The first one is a second and third order upwind-based algorithm with the MUSCL extrapolation Van Leer (1979), based on primitive variables. The other one is an upwind-based algorithm with the Chakravarthy extrapolation to the fluxes of mass, momentum and energy. The results show that the thickness of shock layer in the third order accuracy is less than its value in second order. Moreover, applying limiter eliminates the oscillations near the shock while increases the thickness of shock layer especially in MUSCL method using Van Albada limiter.
This study aims at modeling boundary layers (BLs) encountered in sparse and built environments (i.e. open, suburban and urban) at the subsonic Wind Tunnel (WT) at Ryerson University (RU). This WT has an insignificant turbulence intensity and requires a flow-conditioning system consisting of turbulence generating elements (i.e., spires, roughness blocks, barriers) to achieve proper turbulent characteristics. This system was developed and validated in the current study in three phases. In phase I, several Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) simulations of the tunnel with generating elements were conducted to understand the effect of each element on the flow. This led to a preliminary design of the system, in which horizontal barriers (slats) are added to the spires to introduce turbulence at higher levels of the tunnel. This design was revisited in phase II, to specify slat dimensions leading to target BLs encountered by tall buildings. It was found that rougher BLs require deeper slats and, therefore, two-layer slats (one fixed and one movable) were implemented to provide the required range of slat depth to model most BLs. This system only involves slat movement to change the BL, which is very useful for automatic wind tunnel testing of tall buildings. The system was validated in phase III by conducting experimental wind tunnel testingof the system and comparing the resulting flow field with the target BL fields considering two length scales typically used for wind tunnel testing. A very good match was obtained for all wind field characteristics which confirms accuracy of the system.
An experimental investigation of smoke spread in a corridor is made using thermocouples and visualization technique with a laser beam sheet. A speed of smoke front under a ceiling is measured by thermocouple trees. Visualization of the ceiling jet formation and of smoke filling process is carried out to observe lowering of the smoke layer. From the results, a large-scale convective motion the corridor plays dominant roles for smoke spread from visualized photos together with temperature records. A circulating motion of fluid transports some smokes to some regions where its momentum is effective. It is therefore showed that the conventional concept of lowering smoke with two-layer zone model has some restrictions for the corridor because the lowering of smoke layer has been thought to be mass transport due to relatively small scale motion such as decrease of buoyancy, mass diffusion and momentum exchange.

Unsteady groundwater flow in a three-layer unconfined aquifer has been studied theoretically and experimentally. Two different methods have been used in solving the governing equations of the flow, the nonlinear partial differential equations; (1) The governing equations are linearized for each layer and approximate solutions are obtained. (2) The governing equations are transformed to nonlinear ordinary differential equations, which are solved numerically by Runge-Kutta procedure. Fine, middle sized and coarse sands are used in the experiments. It is found that the solutions from the method(2) ( the reduction of partial differential equations to ordinary differential equations) give better agreement with the experimental results than the solution from the method(1).
Numerical Analysis has been done for the supersonic off-design jet flow due to the pressure difference between the jet and the ambient fluid. The difference of pressure generates an oblique shock or an expansion wave at the nozzle exit, The waves reflect repeatedly at the center axis and on the sonic surface in the shear layer, and the pressure difference is resolved across these waves interacted with the turbulence mixing layer. In this paper, the axi-symmetric Navier-Stokes equation has been used with two equation $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence closure model. The second order TVD scheme with flux limiters, based on the flux vector split by the smooth eigenvalue split, has been used to capture internal shocks and other discontinuities. The correction term for the compressible flow and the damping function are used in the turbulence model. Numerical calculations have been done to analyze the off-design jet flow due to the pressure difference. The variation of pressure along the flow axis is compared with an experimental result and other numerical result. The characteristics of the interaction between the shock cell and the turbulence mixing layer have been analyzed.

A numerical analysis is carried out for the marine propellers in open water conditions to investigate the effect of the wall treatments in model and full scale. The standard wall function to apply the low of the wall and the two layer zonal model to calculate the whole boundary layer for a transition phenomenon are used with one turbulence model. To determine an appropriate distance of the first grid point from the wall when using the wall function, a formula based on Reynolds number is suggested, which can estimate the maximum y+ satisfying the logarithmic law. In the model scale, it is confirmed that a transition calculation is required for a model scale propeller with low Reynolds number that the transient region appears widely. While in the full scale, the wall function calculation is recommended for efficient calculations due to the turbulence dominant flow for large Reynolds number.

This paper performed the prediction of the acoustic loads applied to the surface of the flight vehicle during flight. Acoustic loads during flight arise from the pressure fluctuations on the surface of body. The conventional method of predicting the acoustic loads in flight uses semi-empirical method derived from theoretical and experimental results. However, there is a limit in obtaining the flow characteristics and the boundary layer parameters of the flight vehicle which are used as the input values of the empirical equation through experiments. Therefore, in this paper, we use the hybrid method which combines the results of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) with semi-empirical methods to predict the acoustic loads acting on flight vehicle during flight. For the flight vehicle with cone-cylinder-flare shape, acoustic loads were estimated for the subsonic, transonic, supersonic, and Max-q (Maximum dynamic pressure) condition flight. For the hybrid method, two kind of boundary layer edge estimation methods based on CFD results are compared and the acoustic loads prediction results were compared according to empirical equations presented by various researchers.
The present research is an experimental study of subcooled flow boiling behavior using flat, microporousenhanced square heater surfaces in pure FC-72. Two $1-cm^{2}$ copper surfaces, one highly polished (plain) and one microporous coated, were flush-mounted into a 12.7 mm square, horizontal flow channel. Testing was performed for fluid velocities ranging from 0.5 to 4 m/s (Reynolds numbers from 18,700 to 174,500) and pure subcooling levels from 4 to 20 K. Results showed both surfaces' nucleate flow boiling curves collapsed to one line showing insensitivity to fluid velocity and subcooling. The log-log slope of the microporous surface nucleate boiling curves was lower than the plain surface due to the conductive thermal resistance of the microporous coating layer. Both, increased fluid velocity and subcooling, increase the CHF values for both surfaces, however, the already enhanced boiling characteristics of the microporous coating appear dominant and require higher fluid velocities to provide additional enhancement of CHF to the microporous surface.

The Rapid Expansion of Supercritical fluid Solutions (RESS) process was applied to particles coating. Microcapsules prepared by spray drying were used as the core particles, and two kinds of paraffin were used as the coating materials. Supercritical $CO_{2}$ solutions of paraffin were expanded through the short nozzle into the bed that was fluidized by air. Extraction temperature and pressure were varied at $50~120^{\circ}C$, $150~200\;kg/\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively. The thickness of theoritical coating layer ws measured, and precipitate coating layer on surface was analyzed by using SEM, FT-IR. The release behaviors of $Mg^{2+}$ ions were inspected by atomic absorbance spectrophtometer.
