Experimental and computational studies were performed to determine the effects of different blade designs on a flow pattern inside a double-spindle counter rotating mower deck. In the experimental study, two different blade models were tested by measuring air velocities using a forward-scatter LDV system. The velocity measurements were taken at several different azimuth and axial sections inside the deck. The measured velocity distributions clarified the air flow pattern caused by the rotating blades and demonstrated the effects of deck and blade designs. A high-speed video camera and a sound level meter were used for flow visualization and noise level measurement. In the computational works, two-dimensional blade shapes at several arbitrary radial sections have been selected for flow computations around the blade model. For three-dimensional computation applied a non-inertia coordinate system, a flow field around the entire three-dimensional blade shape is used to evaluate flow patterns in order to take radial flow interactions into account. The computational results were compared with the experimental results.
The three dimensional ultrasonic anemometer was constructed to reduce the disadvantages of the two-dimensional anemometer and to be free from the use environment. Three pairs of transmitting and receiving ultrasonic sensors were designed to face each other at an angle of $45^{\circ}$ to the upper and lower surfaces at intervals of $120^{\circ}$. 200 kHz ultrasonic sensor Oscillation, transmission and reception, level detection, power supply circuit were designed and U, V, W wind speed vector components were obtained by measuring the time of first received ultrasonic pulse by transmitting pulse ultrasound. It is implemented as firmware in ARM Coretex-M3 processor so that horizontal and vertical wind direction and wind speed can be converted into digital signal by vector calculation. In this study, The three-dimensional ultrasonic anemometer can complement the disadvantages of the two-dimensional anemometer (mechanical and ultrasonic), and it is expected to gradually replace the two-dimensional anemometer due to its high utilization rate by collecting additional information such as vertical wind.

Many studies on crystal growth mechanisms of the hen egg-white lysozyme protein crystals have mainly performed by optical microscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). As results, two types of growth mechanisms, which are a two-dimensional nucleation mechanism and a spiral growth mechanism, were identified. However, there was no direct evidence of grown-in screw dislocations at the spiral sites. We first observed the screw dislocations in tetragonal lysozyme crystals using synchrotron X-ray topography. In addition, to confirm the characteristics of dislocations, we have observed some elastic constants in lysozyme crystals in terms of the sound velocity measurement by pulse echo methods. Tetragonal hen egg-white lysozyme crystals were grown by the concentration gradient method. The crystals were grown in test tubes, with an inner diameter of 8 ㎜ and 80 ㎜ in length, held vertically. The test tubes were kept at 23C for 2 weeks. The maximum size of crystals were 3×3×4 ㎟. The high quality crystals were examined by Laue topography with a water filter using synchrotron radiation. Figure is a X-ray topograph. Several straight screw dislocations were observed. We also determined Burgers vector to be a [110] direction. The measurement of sound velocity was performed by the digital signal processing method. the crystals were placed in stainless steel vessel, which was filled with lysozyme solution used for crystal growth. We observed the longitudinal sound velocity along the [110] direction in the tetragonal is obtained to be 1817 ㎧. Therefore, Young modulus and shear modulus were evaluated to be 2.70 Gpa and 1.02 Gpa, respectively, if we assumed Poisson ratio is 0.33. These results will be discussed at the meeting.

In order to investigate change of vortex structures and its evolving proceses, two dimensional LDV system was used for measurement of velocity vectors of tip vortex, and PIV system was also used for visualizations of tip vortex array for two bladed rotor, respectively. Experiments provided vortex locations, tangential and axial velocity components of tip vortex at six wake ages of 9.5, 10.5, 60.5, 99.5, 129.5, 169.5 and corresponded six wake ages shifted with 180 degrees per each. It was resulted that tip vortices generated by the first blade satisfy Landgrebe's model for their vortex locations even after they were accelerated by the second blade in downstream. Tangential velocity components of tip vortices follow Vatistas' n=2 model on both inside and outside regions of rotor slipstream without loss of vortex circulation. Axial velocity profiles revealed that there were small but significant perturbations just outside the primary vortex core which implies the second blade affects the wake substantially. It was also found that tip paths of each blade were not willing to be coincided intrinsically.
Turbulent properties of the wake of a circular cylinder were measured The diameter of the cylinder is l0mm and the Reynolds number is 420. A new 3D-PTY system was constructed and a genetic algorithm (GA) was introduced in order to increase the number of instantaneous three-dimensional velocity vectors. In the GA two fitness functions were introduced in order to enhance the correspondences of the particles. The measurement system consists of three CCD cameras, Ar-ion laser, an image grabber and a host computer. More than 3000 instantaneous three-dimensional velocity vectors were obtained by the system. The database of the turbulent properties of the circular cylinder was constructed by the constructed 3D-PTV system.

Instantaneous velocity distribution within coaxial circular pipe for measurement velocity of high speed is acquired simultaneously by applying the 2-dimensional PTV system consisting of a pulse generator(AOM:Acousto-Optical Modulator), a continuous-output laser and a PC image grabber together with experimental apparatus. The basic mechanism of AOM and vector identification method and performance-related image processing techniques are discussed. Representative measuring regions $90{\times}90$mm are selected and instantaneous vectors are represented and fully developed turbulent flow of maximum velocity up to about 1.0 m/sec is obtained.

The characteristics of Diesel spray droplets, such as the velocity and the diameter were simultaneously measured by using an improved Interferometric Laser Imaging for Droplet Sizing method. The experiments were carried out using an accumulator-type unit injector system and a constant-volume vessel. Two dimensional cross-section photographs of sprays were also taken using a double-pulsed Nd- YAG laser sheet and a linear array CCD camera. As a result, interesting relations between the droplets diameter and the velocity were found.

We present numerical and experimental results of periodic flows inside a rectangular container under a background rotation. The periodic flows are generated by changing the speed of rotation periodically so that a time-periodic body forces produce the unsteady flows. In numerical computation, a parallel-computation technique with MPI is implemented. Flow visualization and PIV measurement are also performed to obtain velocity fields at the free surface. Through a series of numerical and experimental works, we aim to clarify, if any, the fundamental reasons \ulcornerf discrepancy between the two-dimensional computation and the experimental measurement, which was detected in the previous study for the same flow model. Specifically, we check if the various assumptions prerequisite for the validity of the classical Ekman pumping law are satisfied for periodic flows under a background rotation.

This paper addresses the vibration mode shape measurement technique utilizing a Continuous Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometer (CSLDV). The continuous scanning capability is added to the conventional discrete Laser Doppler Vibrometer by reflecting the laser beams on the surface of the object using two oscillating mirrors. The bow scanning resulted from the proposed scanning method is eliminated by feedback control. The velocity output signal from the CSLDV is modulated to give the spatial velocity distribution in terms of coefficients which are obtained from the Fast Fourier Transformation of the time dependent velocity signal. Using the Chebyshev series form, the analysis of the vibration mode shape techniques for straight Bine scanning and 2 dimensional scanning are presented and discussed. The performance of the proposed SLDV is presented using the experimental results of the vibration mode shape of a plate

In this paper, the moving distance and velocity of a single moving object are measured by sampling three frames in a two-dimensional line sequence image. The brightness of each frame is analyzed, and the bit data of their pixel are rearranged so that the difference image may be extracted. The parameters for recognition of the object are the gray level of the object, the number of vertex points and the distance between the vertex points. The moving distance obtained from the coordinate which is constructed by the bit processing of the data in the memory map of a microcomputer, and the moving velocity is obtained from the moving distance and the time interval between the first and second sampled frames.
