  • Packet transmission and independent addressing in the mobile environments are very similar to the ones in the multicasting environment. So, in this paper, we propose a new scheme about how to manage the multicasting group and to set the communication path in the mobile environment by applying two-level addressing mode, which is similar to mobile If, for location-independent address setting. And we propose the smooth handoff scheme that minimizes the handoff delay for mobile multimedia services. To check the performance of our proposed scheme, we modified the NS-2 network simulator and as a result, we showed that our proposed scheme is better than other techniques in terms of handoff delay and transmitted packets' throughput.

  • In a centralized spread-spectrum packet radio network, a random assignment -transmitter-based spreading code protocol(RA-T) is proposed which permits the contention mode only in the trasmission of a preamble while avoiding collision during the data packet transmission by assigning near-orthogonal spreading codes to each user. Compared to the conventional transmitter-based code scheme, this scheme allows reduction in receiver complexity when only a small number of distinct spreading codes are employed for the preamble transmission. Throughout theoretical and simulation results, it is shown that the use of the RA-T scheme with just two or three distinct codes for the preamble packet achieves most of the performance gain.

  • This paper investigates the energy efficiency of energy harvesting (EH) bidirectional cooperative sensor networks, in which the considered system model enables the uplink information transmission from the sensor (SN) to access point (AP) and the energy supply for the amplify-and-forward (AF) relay and SN using power-splitting (PS) or time-switching (TS) protocol. Considering the minimum EH activation constraint and quality of service (QoS) requirement, energy efficiency is maximized by jointly optimizing the resource division ratio and transmission power. To cope with the non-convexity of the optimizations, we propose the low complexity iterative algorithm based on fractional programming and alternative search method (FAS). The key idea of the proposed algorithm first transforms the objective function into the parameterized polynomial subtractive form. Then we decompose the optimization into two convex sub-problems, which can be solved by conventional convex programming. Simulation results validate that the proposed schemes have better output performance and the iterative algorithm has a fast convergence rate.

  • This study is based on the assumption of surface transport linkages between Korea and China. Active economic cooperation between South Korea and North Korea are expected within the near future and Russia and China have interested in the land transport linkages in Korean peninsula. How much freight demands between the two countries that has been mainly dependent on air and sea transportation so far may convert the transport mode to surface transportation are estimated. Particularly, freight demands between South Korea and China's three northeast provinces are focused. The sensitivity analysis depends on transport time and transport cost changes is included. The modal shifts is estimated to be more sensitive to the changes in transport costs than those in transport time, suggesting the importance of transport costs of rail and road. Despite the dearth of data on the surface transport operation in North Korea, the attempts made in this study to estimate the demand conversion are hope to provide reference points for potential effects of the rail and road transport connections between China and the Korea peninsula before our discussions expand to the establishment of freight transport network of the northest Asia and, moreover, the Eurasian continent.

  • The pilot test of a new alternative for small wastewater treatment system has been conducted for two years. It consists of a hybrid bioreactor and the expert system including the process control logic, PLC system, and HMI for the process automation. In order to monitor and remote control its status, the real-time data was transferred from the on-site control center to the central station via a wireless local area network. More efficient and stable performances were observed at automatic operating mode compared with the manual. On an average, COD, SS, T-N and T-P concentrations in the effluent from the hybrid bioreactor were less than 14, 7, 12 and 0.9 mg/L, respectively. According to the result from pilot tests, the quality of treated wastewater with sand filtration was enough to be utilized again.

  • Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) provides GPS measurements to support high accuracy CPS positioning. The CORS improves GPS positioning productivity by eliminating the requirement for GPS users to operate two receivers. Previously, this is achieved by providing data from CORS to users in post-mission mode. However, the efficiency of the CORS will be maximized by upgrading it in real-time operation using RTK-GPS surveying because users can obtain centimeter-level accuracy in real-time without operating their own reference stations. In this research, authors extracted the arbitrary point's coordinate which is using GPS CORS data, now served in RINEX FORMAT via Internet, with observation network of the existing triangulation and GPS CORS data. And then, RTK GPS was performed with this arbitrary point as reference station.

  • One of the most important requirements in the evaluation of existing structural systems and ensuring a safe performance during their service life is damage assessment. Damage can be defined as a weakening of the structure that adversely affects its current or future performance which may cause undesirable displacements, stresses or vibrations to the structure. The mass and stiffness of a structure will change due to the damage, which in turn changes the measured dynamic response of the system. Damage detection can increase safety, reduce maintenance costs and increase serviceability of the structures. Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) are simplified models of the human brain and evolved as one of the most useful mathematical concepts used in almost all branches of science and engineering. ANNs have been applied increasingly due to its powerful computational and excellent pattern recognition ability for detecting damage in structural engineering. This paper presents and reviews the technical literature for past two decades on structural damage detection using ANNs with modal parameters such as natural frequencies and mode shapes as inputs.

  • A multi-pulse GTO based voltage source converter (VSC) topology together with a fundamental frequency switching mode of gate control is a mature technology being widely used in static synchronous compensators (STATCOMs). The present practice in utility/industry is to employ a high number of pulses in the STATCOM, preferably a 48-pulse along with matching components of magnetics for dynamic reactive power compensation, voltage regulation, etc. in electrical networks. With an increase in the pulse order, need of power electronic devices and inter-facing magnetic apparatus increases multi-fold to achieve a desired operating performance. In this paper, a competitive topology with a fewer number of devices and reduced magnetics is evolved to develop an 18-pulse, 2-level $\pm$ 100MVAR STATCOM in which a GTO-VSC device is operated at fundamental frequency switching gate control. The inter-facing magnetics topology is conceptualized in two stages and with this harmonics distortion in the network is minimized to permissible IEEE-519 standard limits. This compensator is modeled, designed and simulated by a SimPowerSystems tool box in MATLAB platform and is tested for voltage regulation and power factor correction in power systems. The operating characteristics corresponding to steady state and dynamic operating conditions show an acceptable performance.

  • Through the increment of requirement for group oriented communication services, on the open network, the multicast infrastructure has become a widely discussed researching topic. However the research of the security properties that safety, efficiency and scaleability in a multicast structure, has not been enough. In this study, we discuss conventional multicast key management structures and propose a scalable secure multicast key management structure based on PKI(Public Key Infrastructure), IPSec, domain subgroup and structural two mode scheme. Also we certify to the usability of new proposed scheme from comparing it with conventional schemes in the part of safety, efficiency and scaleability.

  • The crystal structure of thiamin tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide, one of the ring-opened derivatives of thiamin, has been determined by the X-ray diffraction methods. The crystal is monoclinic with cell dimensions of a = 8.704 (1), b = 11.207 (2), c = 21.260 (3) ${\AA}$ and ${\beta}$ = 92.44 (2)$^{circ}$, space group P2$_{1}$/c and Z = 4. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined to R = 0.076 for 1252 observed reflections measured on a diffractometer. The molecule assumes a folded conformation in which the pyrimidine and the tetrahydrofurfuryl rings are on the same side of the ethylenic plane. The pyrimidinyl, N-formyl and ethylenic planes are mutually perpendicular to each other and the N(3)-C(4) bond retains a single bond character. The structure is stabilized by an intramolecular N(4'${\alpha})-H{\cdots}O(2{\alpha}$) hydrogen bond. The molecules are connected via N(4'${\alpha}$)-H{\cdots}(N3')$ and O(5${\gamma})-H{\cdots}(N1')$ hydrogen bonds, forming a two-dimensional hydrogen-bonding network. The tetrahydrofurfuryl ring is dynamically disordered. The overall conformation as well as the packing mode is very similar to that of thiamin propyl disulfide.
