  • Voltage and current signals during impulse tests on transformer are treated as non-stationary signals. A new method incorporating signal-processing method such as Wavelets and courier transform is proposed for failure identification. It is now possible to distinguish failure during impulse tests. The method is experimentally validated on a transformer winding. The wavelet transforms enables the detection of the time of occurrence of switching or failure events. After establishing the time of occurrence, the original waveform is split into two or more sections. The wavelet transform has ability to analysis the failure signal on time domain as well as frequency domain. Therefore, the wavelet transform is superior than courier transform to analysis the failure signal. In this paper, the fact was proved by real data which was achieved.

  • Bidirectional DC-DC converters allow transfer of power between two dc sources, in either direction. Due to their ability to reverse the direction of flow of power, Dey are being increasingly used in many applications such as battery charge/dischargers, do uninterruptible power supplies, electrical vehicle motor drives, aerospace power systems, telecom power supplies, etc. This Paper Proposes a new bidirectional Sepic/Zeta converter. It has low switching loss and low conduction loss due to auxiliary communicated circuit and synchronous rectifier operation, respectively Because of positive and buck/boost-like DC voltage transfer function(M=D/1-D), the proposed converter is very desirable for use in distributed power system. The proposed converter also has both transformer-less version and transformer one.

  • Out of the defects occurred in a transformer, the cases of protrusion and surface discharge were simulated by using needle-plane and IEC(B) electrode. The waveform and frequency characteristics of ultrasonic signals due to partial discharge occurred at each electrode were analyzed. And then, the ultrasonic signal characteristics from the partial discharge due to the two kinds of defect were compared. As a result, in the case of the protrusion and surface discharge, the waveforms were similar, but the frequency spectra were different.

  • The pulsed poser system has been widely used to many applications, such as E/P(Electrostatic Precipitator), DeNox/DeSOx power system, ozon generator, etc. A pulse energy efficiency for load depends on the rising time, peak value, pulse duration and impedance matching, etc. The pulse generator generally required for short pusle duration and high peak value was forced to consider its volume and economy. In this study, developing a compact pulse generator that applied for cascading method to be made of two pulse transformers, we compared cascading voltage with non cascading one by applying the pulse energy to load. Adopting cascading technique to pulse transformer, we found that average cascading voltage was about 60[%] of theoretical value. Maximum cascading ratio was calculated at 60 times compared with non cascading voltage.

  • This study presents a AC electric railway system model using PSCAD/EMTDC. Ver.3.08 for circuit analysis and fault studies. This system model made by PSCAD/EMTDC is composed of feeder, contact line, rails, Scott-transformer, Auto-transformer. This model is based on four-port network which is an extension of two-port network theory. In order to verify the proposed model, each voltage of feeder-rail, contact line-rail and feeder-contact line is measured and fault studies are also simulated.

  • In this paper, a multilevel PWM inverter employing a cascaded transformer is presented to reduce the harmonics of output voltage and load currents. The proposed PWM inverter consists of two full-bridge modules and their corresponding transformers. The secondarics of each transformer are series-connected. So continuous output voltage levels can be synthesized from the suitable selection of the turns ratio of trasformer. And it appears an integral ratio to input DC source. Because of the cascaded connection of transformers, output filter inductor is not necessary. The operational principles and analysis are explained, and it is compared with a conventional isolated H-bridge PWM inverter. The validity of proposed multilevel inverter is verified through simulated and experimental waveform and their FFT results.

  • The two fuzzy criteria to distinguish the internal fault from the inrush for the power transformer protection have been identified. They are based on the terminal voltage, fundamental and second harmonic component of differential current. A systemetic way to determine the associated fuzzy membership function is also proposed.

  • This paper describes characteristics of the developed current sensor by means of two identically wound magnetic cores forming a clamp like for measurement of a low DC, or AC current. This sensor consists of peak value detectors, a sensor of an electrically compensated current transformer type, a reference alternating voltage, Precision measuring circuits to measure the output signals of sensor with harmonics, and can be measured up to 2 A at DC, or AC current. The current sensor shows a measurement accuracy of less than 0.3% in the frequency range 40 Hz - 10 HBz. The resolution and sensitivity of the sensor were evaluated 0.1 mA and 10 mV/mA, respectively.

  • This paper described the unbalanced voltage on the tertiary bus of a single Phase auto transformer in the case of parallel operation with different manufacturer at each Phase. The unbalanced capacitances between primary to secondary winding, secondary to tertiary winding and primary to tertiary winding makes unbalanced bus voltage in the tertiary bus side. The unbalanced voltage let the surge arrester to operate in the power frequency range, and it causes the arrester to burn out. The failure of the arrester at one phase makes line to ground fault, which lead to the surge arrester failure of the other two phase on the tertiary bus.

Characteristics of Surface flashover in LN2 (액체질소 중에서의 연면방전 특성)

  • For the development of superconducting power apparatus, it is necessary to establish the dielectric technology in coolant like L$N_2$. Therefore in this paper we conducted experiment of surface flashover that could occur in the windings of HTS transformer which will be developed in the pancake coil type. First, we distinguished two types of surface flashover by electrode alignment, such as parallel and vertical, and then compared with each characteristics of surface flashover. The flashover voltage was more affected by thickness of spacer than by surface length when the thickness of spacer is over 1 mm. And the surface flashover with metallic particle attached on the spacer was tested, it was affected by the particle position. The more close to the electrodes, the worse the characteristics. Also the experiment was conducted when the electrode was immersed in liquid nitrogen(L$N_2$) partially. The surface flashover characteristics of spacer was, when immersed partially in 50%, rapidly decreased.
