The purposes of this study are to investigate the stereotype of position and direction that users expect door lock control devices in different orientations, and to collect information regarding preferred door lock design and orientations. Six hundred subjects aged from lOs to 60s were surveyed under the operating conditions of three different door locks(cylindrical, circular-type, and lever-type auxiliary locks) mounted on the miniature door in two different orientations(right and left side). The door locks presented to the subjects were the most widely used door locks in our living environment. The results indicated that if the door locks were seen from the inside, 59~67% of the subjects expected 'vertical' position locking depending on the door lock control types, cylinder or auxiliary lock. When the door locks were seen from the outside, the locking direction of door lock control was not consistent either 'clockwise' or 'counterclockwise'. It was rather dependent on the orientation of the door lock positions. As a concluding remark, it is better to design and install door lock control devices in the way that users expect them to work.
Characterization of wind flows over a complex terrain, especially mountain-gorge terrain (referred to as the very complex terrain with rolling mountains and deep narrow gorges), is an important issue for design and operation of long-span bridges constructed in this area. In both wind tunnel testing and numerical simulation, a transition section is often used to connect the wind tunnel floor or computational domain bottom and the boundary top of the terrain model in order to generate a smooth flow transition over the edge of the terrain model. Although the transition section plays an important role in simulation of wind field over complex terrain, an appropriate shape needs investigation. In this study, two principles for selecting an appropriate shape of boundary transition section were proposed, and a theoretical curve serving for the mountain-gorge terrain model was derived based on potential flow theory around a circular cylinder. Then a two-dimensional (2-D) simulation was used to compare the flow transition performance between the proposed curved transition section and the traditional ramp transition section in a wind tunnel. Furthermore, the wind velocity field induced by the curved transition section with an equivalent slope of $30^{\circ}$ was investigated in detail, and a parameter called the 'velocity stability factor' was defined; an analytical model for predicting the velocity stability factor was also proposed. The results show that the proposed curved transition section has a better flow transition performance compared with the traditional ramp transition section. The proposed analytical model can also adequately predict the velocity stability factor of the wind field.

Two-phase vapor-liquid flows exist in many shell and tube heat exchangers such as condensers, evaporators, and nuclear steam generators. To understand the fluid dynamic forces acting on a structure subjected to a two-phase flow, it is essential to obtain detailed information about the characteristics of a two-phase flow. The characteristics of a two-phase flow and the flow parameters were introduced, and then, an experiment was performed to evaluate the pressure loss in the tube bundles and the fluid-dynamic force acting on the cylinder owing to the pressure distribution. A two-phase flow was pre-mixed at the entrance of the test section, and the experiments were undertaken using a normal triangular array of cylinders subjected to a two-phase cross-flow. The pressure loss along the flow direction in the tube bundles was measured to calculate the two-phase friction multiplier, and the multiplier was compared with the analytical value. Furthermore, the circular distributions of the pressure on the cylinders were measured. Based on the distribution and the fundamental theory of two-phase flow, the effects of the void fraction and mass flux per unit area on the pressure coefficient and the drag coefficient were evaluated. The drag coefficient was calculated by integrating the measured pressure on the tube by a numerical method. It was found that for low mass fluxes, the measured two-phase friction multipliers agree well with the analytical results, and good agreement for the effect of the void fraction on the drag coefficients, as calculated by the measured pressure distributions, is shown qualitatively, as compared to the existing experimental results.

In a low speed open-type wind tunnel, a group of parallel wakes downstream of two dimensional grid model consisting of several circular cylinders were experimentally investigated to study the response of the wake flows to the acoustic excitation, in hoping to promote the understanding of the underlying mechanism behind the gross flow change due to artificial excitation. In the unexcited wake flows, the development of the individual wakes behind cylinders was almost uniform for the ratio of the spacing to the cylinder diameter of s/d.geq.1.5. For smaller s/d, however, the jet streams issued through the gaps between the cylinders became biased in one side and the cylinders had wakes of different sizes. At s/d=1.25, the gap flow directions change in time, leading to unstable wake patterns. Further reduction in s/d made this unstable flip-flopping of the jets stable. The most effective excitation frequency was found to be in the Strouhal number range of St=0.5-0.6. This frequency was related to the vortex shedding. At s/d=1.75, the excitation frequency was 2 or 4 times the vortex shedding frequency. When the flow was excited at this frequency, the vortex sheddings were energized, and pairings between neighboring vortices were generated. Also, the merging process between individual wakes was accelerated. The unstable and unbalanced wake patterns at s/d=2.15 were made stable and balanced. The unstable and unbalanced wake patterns at s/d=2.15 were made stable and balanced. For smaller spacing of s/d .leq,1.0, the acoustic excitation became less effective in controlling the flow.

This study presents the wave run-up height around single and multiple surface-piercing cylinders according to wave period and steepness. In order to simulate 3D incompressible viscous two-phase turbulent flow, the present study employed a volume of fluid (VOF) method with realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model based on commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software, "STAR-CCM". The wave periods at model scale were 1.269s and 1.692s for a single cylinder and 1.716s for multiple cylinders. In each case, wave steepness of has 1/30 and 1/16 were used, respectively. Consequently, the results for wave run-up height with regard to wave steepness and period were compared with those of relevant previous experimental studies. The numerical simulation results showed a good qualitative agreement with experiments.

The numerical calculation for solving boundary-value problem related to potential flows with a free surface is carried out by application of the localized finite element method. Only forced motion of 2-D body in infinitely deep fluid is considered, although this schemes is equally applicable to any first order time-harmonic problems of similar nature. The infinite domain of the fluid is separated into the inner flow field and the outer flow field with common inter-surface boundary. The finite element method is applied to obtain the solution in the inner flow field and the Green functions are utilized to represent the solution in the outer flow field. At the inter-surface boundary, the continuity of the value of potential and the normal derivative of the potential(i.e. matching condition) is conserved. The present method has better computational efficiency than the previous LFEM and the integral equation method of Frank. This enhanced computational efficiency is presumably due to the fact that the present method gives a symmetric coefficient matrix and requires less computational time in calculating the influence coefficient matrix of Green function than the integral equation method. And the irregular frequency desen't exist because the uniqueness of the solution is assured by the such that the exact free surface condition is satisfied on the boundary of the localized finite element region(i.e. inner region). As an example of the above method, the hydrodynamic forces for the circular cylinder and the rectangular cylinders are calculated. In the computed results, the small number of singularity distribution segments($3{\sim}6$) give good result relative to Ursell's and Vugts'.
In order to study process of spermiogenesis of the Korean greater horseshoe bat, Rhinolophus ferrumequinum korai, the cycle of seminiferous epithelium was examined by the light and electron microscope and the following results were obtained based on the epithelial cell differentiation. 1. Spermiogenesis occurred from early July to mid-Octber, and spermatogenic activity was vigorous from mid-August to late September. Spermatocytes including spermatogonia were found to be degenerated in only July. It is deduced that the degeneration serves as the mechanism to regulate effective use of energy to prepare for mating and hibernating periods, and regulation of breeding cycle. 2. Spermiogenesis of the Korean greater horseshoe bat was divided according to differentiation of the cell structure, into Golgi, cap, acrosome, maturation and spermiation phases; Golgi, cap and spermiation phases were further divided into two steps of early and late phase respectively, and acrosome phase into three steps of early, mid and late phases, and maturation phase has only one step. Hence, the spermiogenesis consists of ten phases. The first research was done in this article on the changes of chromatin with nucleus, the time of appearance and disappearance of chromatin granules, in case of Korean greater horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum korai). Chromatin granule began to be condensed in late Golgi and the condensation proceeded to form an irregular mass of a electron-dense chromatin in a form of circular cylinder in the center of nucleus at the phase of maturation. Finally, the chromatin condensation proceeded and perfect nucleus of sperm with homogeneous density was formed when the sperm was separated from Sertoli cell. Therefore, appearance and disappearance of chromatin granules occurred in the period of time between late Golgi and maturation phase, The tail of sperm began to develop in early cap phase, Numerous lipid droplets were obseved in the cytoplasm of spermatids during the maturation phase, which seemed to be used as energy source necessary to make mature sperm during spermiogenesis.

In present study, a two dimensional unsteady Navier-Stokes solver has been developed using the Diagonalized ADI (DADI) method and implicit dual time stepping method. The jacobian matrices in steady state Navier-Stokes equations are introduced from inviscid flux terms. The implicit treatment of artificial dissipation terms results in a block penta-diagonal matrix system and it becomes a scalar penta-diagonal matrix by diagonalization. In steady state equations about fictitious time, a new residual including a real time derivative term is introduced. From a converged solution about fictitious time, a real time unsteady solution can be obtained, which is called 'implicit dual time stepping method'. For code validation, an oscillating flat plate, a regular Karman vortices past a circular cylinder and shock buffeting around a bicircular airfoil problems are numerically solved. And they are compared with a theoretical solution, experiments and other researcher's computations.
Beta ray spectra of $^3H,\;^{14}C\;and\;^{36}Cl$ in liquid scintillation counting system have been calculated using the Monte Carlo method by which physical behaviors of particle transport in medium were simulated. The calculations have been carried out on the basis of beta rays being slowing down according to the continuous slowing down approximation(CSDA) model. Beta rays generated in simulation geometry were traced until they lost their energy below 0.3keV that in known to be the detection limit in the liquid scintillation counter. Scintillator solution in which pure beta emitting radionuclides were dissolved uniformly was assumed to be bottled in the shape of right circular cylinder with 12.5mm in radius and 35mm in height. The comparison of the calculated and measured results showed satisfactory agreement between those two, with slight discrepancy due to self quenching in the case of lower energy of emitted beta particles in the solution.
Spiders usually have poor vision but not the jumping spiders. Their eight eyes are located on its distinctive box-shaped head and relatively well developed. The Spiders were fixated with 3% glutaraldehyde and thin section was performed with ultra-microtome. The specimens were observed with light microscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopy. Eye area of jumping spider is competed of three rows. The first eye row comprise four eyes. Among them, two anterior median eyes are the largest and two anterior lateral eyes are relatively small. The former are main-eyes and have excellent vision. The second row, which has the two smallest eyes, is located about midway between the first and third rows. The third row is about half-way back on the thorax and eyed of which are middle size. To investigate ultrastructure of salticid spiders'eye, Menemerus fulvus was chosen. All of Menemerus fuvus's eyes are composed of cornea, lens, vitreous body and retina in histologically. Cornea layer, linked to exocuticle of exoskeleton. is regular layer structure without any cell tripe. Lenses are biconvex type. Retinas comprise well developed microvilli-shape rhabdomeres, unpigmented supporting cells, and pigmented cell. Retinas of anterior median eyes are surrounded by circular cylinder-shaped vitreous body, photoreceptor, i.e. rhabdomeres, of it is irregularly arranged compared to the other eyes.
