This paper presents an application of fractional order controller for the control of multi input multi output twin rotor aerodynamic system. Dynamics of the considered system are highly nonlinear and there exists a significant cross-coupling between the horizontal and vertical axes (pitch & yaw). In this paper, a fractional order model of twin rotor aerodynamic system is identified using input output data from nonlinear system. Based upon identified fractional order model, a fractional order PID controller is designed to control the angular position of level bar of twin rotor aerodynamic system. The parameters of controller are tuned using Nelder-Mead optimization and compared with particle swarm optimization techniques. Simulation results on the nonlinear model show a significant improvement in the performance of fractional order PID controller as compared to a classical PID controller.
The closed loop identification(CLID) is a very useful method for on-line applications since it can identify the plant in the closed-loop system composed of the plant and the controller. There are some literatures on CLID, but they and mainly focused on SISO(Single-Input/Single-Output) problem. In this paper, a CLID method is proposed for MIMO(Multi-Input/Multi-Output) systems. The CLID method is applied to a MIMO benchmark plant, TRMS(Twin-Rotor MIMO System). To illustrate the performance of the closed-loop system identification., unit step responses in the TRMS are represented and compared with the open-loop identification via some simulation.
This paper deals with the fault detection problem in uncertain linear multivariable systems and its application. A robust fault detection method presented by Kim et a. (1998) for MIMO (Multi Input/Multi Output) systems has been adopted and applied to the twin rotor MIMO experimental setup using industrial DSP. The system identification problem is formulated for the twin rotor MIMO system and its parameters are estimated using experimental data. Based on the estimated parameters, some fault detection simulations are performed using the robust fault detection method, which shows that the preformance is satisfied.

In this paper, a multiple sliding surface (MSS) controller for a twin rotor multi-input-multioutput system (TRMS) with mismatched model uncertainties is proposed. The nonlinear terms in the model are regarded as model uncertainties, which do not satisfy the standard matching condition, and an MSS control technique is adopted to overcome them. In order to control the position of the TRMS, the system dynamics are pseudo-decomposed into horizontal and vertical subsystems, and two MSSs are separately designed for each subsystem. The stability of the TRMS with the proposed controller is guaranteed by the Lyapunov stability theory. Some simulation results are given to verify the proposed scheme, and the real time performances of the TRMS with the MSS controller show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
An analysis of the torque characteristics is to be expected of a twin stator induction machine with 2nd excitation is made. A twin stator induction machine has, through common rotor, 2nd excitating action one set to another relatively, but there are not its effect on the torque characteristics. However, by combination with the external fixed or simpled 2nd excitating e.m.f., variable torque-speed drives can be effectively achieved.
Twin-screw kneader is an efficient polymer processing equipment. In this paper, the mixing performance of one novel intermeshing counter-rotating twin-screw kneader with different tip angles of the male rotor is simulated using the mesh superimposition technique (MST). Statistical analysis is carried out for the flow field using particle tracking technique, and distributive mixing performance is evaluated using the residence time distribution and segregation scale, while the dispersive mixing performance is estimated using the parameters such as shear rate, stretching rate and mixing index. The results show that the best distributive mixing performance is achieved when the tip angle is 0o, while the optimal dispersive mixing performance is obtained when the tip angle is 20o. The results in this paper provide a data basis for the selection of parameters and optimization of the performance for the screw rotors.
An analysis is made for the performance of twin stator single-phase induction machine having any movable asymmetrical angle of stator windings, with any symmetrical or asymmetrical magnetizing reactance and winding turn-ratio between two stators, provided that asymmetrical common squirrel cage rotor is utilized. This mechanism is a new type, which has the advantage of mading only not the performance prediction in applications as a single-phase electromagnetic driving mechanism but also the analysis prediction of single-phase induction motor with not in quadrature axis. The basis of the analyses are lead by Kron's primitive machine matrix and Morrill's double-revolving field concept. All the performances can be calculated from the test values and design details of the asymmetrical magnetizing reactance twin stator single-phase induction machine and verified by test. And its validity is still demonstrated to the pure twin stator single-phase induction machine.
Regarding the aircrafts with a rotor blade system, the miniaturization of them is limited due to the rotor blade length and the tail rotor system. To miniaturize an aircraft, an equipment is required that increases thrust and also shortens the length of the rotor blade. The present study will conduct the flow analysis for miniaturizing the aircraft by applying a duct to the coaxial rotor blade system without tail rotor. First, the verification on the calculated results was conducted through the computational flow analysis on the coaxial rotor blade system without a duct. Then, the flow analysis for the coaxial rotor blade systems was performed including Ka-60 duct, Single duct, Twin duct, and Double duct, respectively. From the numerical results, the thrust coefficient appeared higher with the duct than without a duct for the coaxial rotor blade system. Especially, in the case of Double duct, the thrust was improved due to the increase of incoming flow and the extension of the wake area. These results will be used as the basic concepts for miniaturizing the aircraft with the rotor blade system. The flow analysis on the coaxial rotor blade system including the fuselage remains as a future work.
Helicopter noise has been considered as one of major design factors like a performance and safety since the public acceptance, comfortability and stealth aspects were important for customers. According to the airworthiness regulation, the noise levels in throe different flight conditions shall comply with the specific limits. Main and tail rotors noise is most dominant in far field due to the low and mid range frequency characteristics. It is an air-born noise so That the accurate aerodynamic data is necessary for the accurate noise prediction. In KARI, low noise main and tail rotors as well as analysis codes have been developed since 2000. The approach for low noise main rotor is a kind of tip modifications, so called twin vortices tip to reduce the BVI noise. Analysis results show the 9.3dB reduction in terms of pseudo EPNL. The uneven spacing concept is applied for low noise tail rotor. Three or four decibel noise reduction is achieved by new optimized uneven spacing. Rotor noise and aerodynamic prediction codes have been improved also.
