  • To achieve a computer tutor framework with high learning effects as well as practicality, the goal of this research has been set to developing an intelligent tutor for problem-solving in mathematics domain. The maine feature of the CyberTutor, a computer tutor developed in this research, is the facilitation of a learning environment interacting in accordance with the learners differing inferential capabilities and needs. The pedagogical information, the driving force of such an interactive learning, comprises of tutoring strategies used commonly in various domains such as phvsics and mathematics, in which the main contents of learning is the comprehension and the application of principles. These tutoring strategies are those of testing learners hypotheses test, providing hints, and generating explanations. We illustrate the feasibility and the behavior of our propose framework with a sample problem-solving learning in geometry. The proposed tutorial framework is an advancement from previous works in several aspects. Firstly, it is more practical since it supports handing of a wide range of problem types, including not only proof types but also finding-unkown tpes. Secondly, it is aimed at facilitating a personal tutor environment by adapting to learners of varying capabilities. Finally, learning effects are maximized by its tutorial dialogues which are derived from real-time problem-solving inference instead of from built-in procedures.

  • In this research, we have developed a "computer tutor" that mimics the human tutor with animated tutoring dialog agent and the agent was integrated to teaching-learning material for elementary science subject. The developed system is a natural language based teaching-learning system using one-to-one dialogue. The developed pedagogical dialogue teaching-learning system analysis student's answer then provides appropriate answer or questions after comparing the student's answer with elementary school level achievement. When the agent gives either question or answer it uses the TTS(Text-to-Speech) function. Also the agent has an animated human tutor face for providing more human like feedback. The developed dialogue interface has been applied to 64 6th grade students. The test results show that the test group's average score is higher than the control group by 10.797. This shows that unlike conventional web courseware, our approach that "ask-answer" process and the animated character, which has human tutor's emotional expression, attracts students and helps to immerse to the courseware.

  • We have developed a peer agent to support programming learning and analyzed its educational effects in a programming course. The agent acts as a tutor or a tutee. The role of a tutor/tutee is like the role of a navigator/driver in pair programming. While students are learning with the peer agent, the students' programming abilities are modeled. Based on the student's model, the peer agent provides appropriate feedbacks and contents to the learner. The peer agent gives positive effects on learners' achievement and self-efficacy in a programming course. It means that the peer agent system helps the learner in an affective domain as well as a cognitive domain.

  • In this study, we examine what components of e-learning environment affect e-learners' satisfaction. We focus on the task based approach to perceived website complexity(PWC). We study about the role of e-tutor using the internet, telephone, text message and e-mail etc. To test our model, we collected 235 data from online learners of Korea Culture & Content Agency using survey method. The research was conducted by SPSS15.0. Our results show that the relationship between PWC and e-learner satisfaction was negative. The rules of e-tutor are supporting e-learning service and facilitating recommendation intention. This study provides implications to design future e-learning service, understand user's herd behavior and evaluate learning process developed.

  • The knowledge based economy requires more and more people to learn new knowledge and skills in a timely and effective manner. These needs and new technology such as computer and Internet are fueling a transition in e-learning. We did the case study of K company, which is leading the business to business e-learning in Korea. We investigated prior studies about e-learning and deduced the major variables composed of learner, tutor, infrastructure, contents, and practice. And then we suggested the successful way of doing the operation for the company's e-learning. We hope that this research will help the companies that have introduced or consider the adoption of e-learning.

  • In this paper, we design andimplement a prototype of the distant ITS (Intelligent tutoring system): English tutor which is running on the information superhighway. It is designed for the purpose of teaching the english conversation effectively to the students whose mother tongues are not english. The tutor could chosse appropriate tutoring strategies and teach the students effectively according to the contents of the student model. And also it is based on the remote data management client/Server model and implemented on SPARC station and pentium PC using oracle 7.3 and power Builder 5.0.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and apply a simulation-problem based learning(S-PBL) package in basic life support(BLS). Methods: This study was used to developed BLS' S-PBL package throughout 12 steps of PBL package development model. Then, BLS' S-PBL methodology was implemented in second year student in the undergraduate emergency medical technology, and survey was done. Results: 1. S-PBL package model was presented based on conceptual model II of PBL ; PEL for professional action. 2. Quantitative analysis of survey was to the effectiveness of learning, 3.59 points ; 4.15 of BLS and 3.84 of integration and practical use of knowledge. 3. As to the satisfaction of student, S-PBL package management, tutor and self-satisfaction' score was 3.59, 3.82, 3.39 respectively. Conclusion: This study was suggested that S-PBL education would be necessary with improved tutor skill and achieved advantage of simulation and PBL.

  • A web-based intelligent education system(WEST) was designed and implemented to improve the self-directed study for students by providing them the study according to one's ability. WEST is composed of a tutor agent, an administrator module, a teacher module and a student module. The tutor agent analyzes students' ability and selects questions from a database according to their ability. The administrator module administrates subjects and students. The teacher module makes questions with three levels and administrates questions. The students module gives the questions students and the result of study. WEST was used in a mathematics subject for high-school students. Especially our system was better than the others in study according to students' ability.

  • As the number of smartphone users have increased, many kinds of malwares have emerged. Unlike existing malwares, spyware can be installed normally after user authentication and agreement according to security policy. For this reason, it is not easy to catch spywares involving harmful functionalities to users by using existing malware detection system. Therefore, our paper focuses on study about detecting mainly wiretapping spywares among them by developing a new wiretapping detection model and application. Specifically, this study conducts to find out power consumption on each application and modular and network consumption to detect voice wiretapping so Open Source Project Power Tutor is used to do this. The risk assessment of wiretapping is measured by gathered all power consumption data from Open Source Project Power Tutor. In addition, developed application in our study can detect at-risk wiretapping spyware through collecting and analyzing data. After we install the application to the smartphone, we collect needed data and measure it.
