Generally additional leakage inductance and two clamp diodes are adopted into the conventional phase shift full bridge (PSFB) converter for reducing the voltage stress of secondary rectifier diodes and extending the range of zero voltage switching (ZVS) operation. However, since additional leakage inductance carries the ac current similar to the primary one, the core and copper loss oriented from additional leakage inductance can be high enough to decrease the whole efficiency of DC/DC converter. Therefore, in this paper, a new ZVS phase shift full bridge converter with separated primary winding (SPW) is proposed. Proposed converter makes the transformer and additional leakage inductor with one ferrite core. Using this method, leakage inductance is controlled by the winding ratio of separated primary winding. Moreover, by manufacturing the both magnetic components with one core, size and core loss can be reduced and it turns out the improvement of efficiency and power density of DC/DC converter. The operational principle of proposed converter is analyzed and verified by the 1.2kW prototype.

The flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) has the attractive characteristics that can adjust the current limiting level by the turns ratio and the winding direction of two coils. To apply this type SFCL into power system, the analysis for the recovery characteristics of it together with the current limiting characteristic is needed. In this paper, the experiments of the current limiting and the recovery characteristics of the flux-lock type SFCL with YBCO thin film were performed. The recovery characteristics of the flux-lock type SFCL dependent on the winding direction of two coils were analyzed through the comparison with the resistive type SFCL.

In process of reinforced concrete(RC) box structure, the heat of hydration may cause serious thermal cracking problems. In order to eliminate hydration heat of mass concrete, this paper reports results of hydration heat control in mass concrete using the OCHP(Oscillating Capillary tube Heat Pipe). Recently OCHP is drawn special attention from these points of low cost as well as short construction schedule for the manufacturing of heat exchanger, flexibility, simplification and high performance. There were three RC box molds$(1.2{\times}1.2{\times}1.2m)$ which shows a difference as compared with each other. One was not equipped with OCHP. While others were equipped with OCHP and these were cooled with air natural convection and spraying water respectively. The OCHP was composed of copper pipe with 12 turns(O.D : 4mm, I.D : 2.8mm). The working fluid was R-22 and its charging ratio was 30(Vol. %). In order to analyze the distribution of temperature and index figure of thermal crack in sequential placement of mass concrete, we used HYCON of computer program. As a result of the experiment, the peak temperature decreased about $15.6\sim23.4^{\circ}C$ than the general specimen and the probability of thermal crack generated in mass concrete decreased up to 0%.

In process of the mass concrete structure, the heat of hydration may cause serious thermal cracking. In order to eliminate hydration heat of mass concrete, this paper reports results of hydration heat control of mass concrete using the Oscillating Capillary tube Heat Pipe(OCHP). There were the several RC box molds which shows a difference as compared with each other. One was not equipped with OCHP. The others were equipped with OCHP. All of them were cooled with natural air convection. The OCHP was composed of copper pipe with 11 turns(outer diameter : 4mm, inner diameter : 2.8mm) and heat type was non-looped type. The working fluid was R-22 and its charging ratio was 40% by volume. The core of the concrete temperature was approximately $55^{\circ}C$ in the winter without OCHP. But the concrete temperature with OCHP was reduced its difference in temperature with the outdoor temperature to $12^{\circ}C$. Finally we saw the index figure of the thermal crack of the structures were varied from 0.75 to 1.47.
Purpose: Condensation in walk-in closets attached to apartment bathroom has been known as an emerging issue that may threat occupants' comfort and health. Despite a number of design guidelines and enforcements to prevent condensation, condensation issues may still occur depending on various cases and scenarios. We aim to identify what condensation scenarios may lead to walk-in closet condensation and/or worse the existing condensation issues. Method: First we choose an actual walk-in closet of an apartment that suffers from sporadic condensation and resulting mold and mildew. Then we observe its relative humidity and temperature after the bathroom is used, in which excessive vapor is thought to be transported to the walk-in closet. We analyze Temperature Difference Ratio - a domestic indicator of condensation occurrence, and dew point temperature to compare it with surface temperature using 2D heat transfer simulation upon various condensation scenarios. Result: TDR of the test walk-in closet turns out be OK despite mold and mildew actually occurring. Hot water pipe installed in the floor would greatly reduce condensation. If hot water pipe in the upper floor, however, is not used, or hot water pipe of the closet is turned off during swing seasons, it is expected that condensations may still occur.
For conventional interleaved two-phase forward converters with a common output inductor, the maximum duty cycle is 0.5, which limits the voltage range and increases the difficulty of the transformer's optimization. A new two-phase hybrid forward converter with series-parallel auto-regulated transformer windings is presented in this paper. With interleaved control signals for the two phases, the secondary windings of the transformers can work in series when the duty cycle is larger than 0.5, and they can work in parallel when duty cycle is lower than 0.5. Therefore, the maximum duty cycle is extended and the turns ratio of the transformer can be optimized. Duty cycle dependent auto-regulated windings result in the steady states of the converter being different in different duty cycle ranges (D>0.5 and D<0.5). Fortunately, the steady state gains of the proposed hybrid converter are identical at different duty cycle ranges, which means a stepless shift between two states. A prototype is built to verify the theoretical analysis. A conventional control loop is compatible for the whole input voltage range and load range thanks to the stepless shifting between the different duty cycle ranges.

The detent force of a permanent magnet linear motor(PMLM) consists of the end force and cogging force, and should be reduced for high precision purpose applications. The cogging force comes from the electromagnetic interaction between the permanent magnets and interior teeth(or the slots) of the stator, and of which the magnitude depends on the ratio of the numbers of the armature and permanent magnet poles as well as the geometrical shape of the permanent magnet and armature pole. In order to reduce the cogging force of a PMLM, this paper proposes a new configuration which has 9 permanent magnet poles and 10 armature winding slots. By theoretical investigation of the principle of cogging force generation and simulating using finite element method, the proposed PMLM configuration is proven to give much less cogging force than the conventional configuration which has 8 permanent magnet poles and 12 armature winding slots. A proper winding algorithm, modified (A, A, A) winding method, for the proposed configuration is also suggested when the proposed PMLM is operating as a 3 phase synchronous machine. A theoretical and numerical calculation shows that the proposed configuration makes slightly bigger back-emf and thrust force under same exciting current and total number of winding turns condition.
The three-dimensional Stokes flow within a staggered screw channel is obtained by using a finite volume method. The geometry is intended to mimic the single screw extruder having staggered arrangement of flights. The flow solution is then subjected to the analysis of the stirring performance. In the analysis of the stirring performance, the stretching-mapping method developed by the author is employed for calculating the materials' stretching exponents, which are to be used in quantification of the mixing effect. The numerical results Indicate that the staggered geometry gives indeed far much better stirring-performance than the standard (nonstaggered) flight geometry. It was also shown that care must be given to the selection of the basis planes for evaluating the local stretching rate, and it turns out that the best method (H-method) has its basis plane just on the half way between the past and future evolution of fluid particles subjected to the defromation. In evaluating the stretching exponent, the expansion ratio must be considered which is one of the characteristic differences of the actual three-dimensional flows from the two-dimensionmal counterparts. The larger axial pressure-difference causes in general the smaller stirring performance while the flow rate is increased. The smaller channel length also increases the stirring performance.
In this paper, the heat transfer characteristics of a self-oscillating heat pipe are experimentally investigated for the effect of various working fluid fill charge ratios and heat loads. The characteristics of temperature oscillations of the working fluid are also analysed based on chaotic dynamics. The heat pipe is composed of a heating section, a cooling section and an adiabatic section, and has a 0.002m internal diameter, a 0.34m length in each turn and consists of 19 turns. The heating and the cooling portion of each turn has a length of 70mm. A series of experiments was carried out to measure the temperature distributions and the pressure variations of the heat pipe. Furthermore, heat transfer performance, effective thermal conductivity, boiling heat transfer and condensation heat transfer coefficients are calculated for various operating conditions. Experimental results show the efficacy of this type of heat pipe.

An efficient cooling system is an essential part of the electronic packaging such as a high-luminance LED lighting. A special technology, Pulsating Heat Pipe (PHP), can be applied to improve cooling of a sealed, explosion-proof LED light fixture. In this paper, the characteristics of the pulsating heat pipes in the imposed thermal boundary conditions of LED lightings were experimentally investigated and a PHP device that works free of alignment angle was investigated for cooling of explosion-proof LED lights. Five working fluids of ethanol, FC-72, R-123, water, and acetone were chosen for comparison. The experimental pulsating heat pipe was made of copper tubes of internal diameter of 2.1 mm, 26 turns. A variable heat source of electric heater and an array of cooling fins were attached to the pulsating heat pipe. For the alignment of the heating part at bottom, an optimum charging ratio (liquid fluid volume to total volume) was about 50% for most of the fluids and water showed the highest heat transfer performance. For the alignment of the heating part on top, however, only R-123 worked in an un-looped construction. This unique advantage of R-123 is attributed to its high vapor pressure gradient. Applying these findings, a cooling device for an explosion-proof type of LED light rated 30 W was constructed and tested successfully.
