  • The purpose of this study is to develop a cycle-free signal timing model for minimizing delays based on Third-generation control concept using Genetic Algorithm. A special feature of this model is its ability to manage delays of turning movements on the cycle basis. The model produces a cycle-free based signal timing(cycles and green times) for each intersection to minimize delays of turning movements on the cycle basis. The performance of cycle-free signal timings was evaluated on normal (v/c = 0.7) and oversaturated (v/c=1.0) conditions. The performance measures are throughput and the number of queued vehicles at the end of green time. The result shows that the cycle free signal timing is superior to the fixed signal timing to manage traffic flows of intersections; (1) the proposed model accomplishes the basic objective of the research, producing cycle free signal timings on the cycle basis, (2) on normal conditions, cycle free signal timings produce less queued vehicles at the end of green time, and (3) on oversaturated conditions, the cycle free signal timing is superior to the fixed signal timing to manage saturated traffic flows of intersections.

  • This paper describes the parachute dynamics modeling and simulation results for the development of training simulator of a HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) parachute, which is currently in use for military purposes. The target parachute is a rectangular shaped parafoil and its dynamic model is derived based on the real geometry data as the 9-DOF nonlinear equations of dynamics. The simulation was conducted through the moment of inertia and its aerodynamic derivatives to reflect the real characteristics based on the MATLAB/Simulink. In particular, its modeling includes the typical characteristics of the added mass and moment of inertia, which is shown in the strong effects in Lighter-Than-Air(LTA) flight vehicle. The proposed dynamic modeling was evaluated through the simulation under the spiral turning flight conditions of the asymmetric control inputs and compared with the performance index in the target parachute manual.

  • The present study aims to improve the accuracy of the maneuvering simulations based on captive model test results. To derive the hydrodynamic coefficients in a self-propelled condition, a mathematical maneuvering model using a whole vehicle model was established. Captive model tests were carried out using the Vertical Planar Motion Mechanism (VPMM) equipment. A motor controller was used to control the constant propeller revolution rate during pure motion tests. The resistance tests, self-propulsion tests, static drift tests, and VPMM tests were performed in the towing tank of Seoul National University. When the vertical drift angle changes, the gravity load on the sensors were changed. The hydrodynamic forces were deduced by subtracting the gravity load from the measured forces. The hydrodynamic coefficients were calculated using the least-square method. The simulation of the turning circle test was compared with the free-running model test result, and the error of the turning radius was 8.3 % compared to the free-running model test.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of feed resources and collection system of nonconventional agricultural roughages, and reduction of environment pollution by turning non-conventional agricultural roughages to feed resources and diversification of feed supply. And a series of experiment were conducted to determine the effect of moisture control material on quality of sweet potato stalk, peanut stalk, barley straw, the experiments were conducted at Grassland and Forage Crops Division, National Livestock Research Institute, RDA, Suwon in 1999 and 2000. The results obtained from these experiments are summarized as follows; Acid detergent fiber(ADF), neutral detergent fiber(NDF) and total digestible nutrient(TDN) of sweet potato were 38.8, 50.7 and 58.2% in the control silage, but that of rice straw added silage for moisture control were decreased to 41.5, 50.8 and 56.1%. ADF, NDF, CP(crude protein) and TDN of peanut stalk were 42.2, 49.6, 10.5 and 55.6% on the rice straw added silage for moisture control, and there were not affected by barely straw added silage for moisture control. And ADF, NDF and TDN content of barely straw increased 42.8, 65.8 and 55.1% on the water+inoculants treated silage. The results of this study indicate that non-conventional agricultural roughages to feed resources should be make for silage at silo after dry matter percentage(ab0ut 35%) control. Also, rice straw added silage for moisture control will improve the silage fermentation and conservation. • In this paper, we have developed the system of emergency vehicle preemption signal control based on UTIS(Urban Traffic Information System) which have been deployed and operated in the national capital area. It considered the turning direction(through or left turn) of emergency vehicle at the signalized intersection in order to provide the consecutive progression of emergency vehicle and minimize the control delay of passenger cars. we adopted several EVP control modes such as phase insertion and phase adjustment mode. Also, we evaluated the possibility of field implementation via simulation analysis using CORSIM RTE(Run Time Extension) based HILS(Hardware In the Loop Simulation). We expect that the result of this research contribute to providing the right-of-way to emergency vehicle in this country.

  • For decades, simulation technique has been well validated in areas such as computer and communication systems. Recently, the technique has been much used in the area of transportation and traffic forecasting. Several methods have been proposed for investigating complex traffic flows. However, the dynamics of vehicles and diversities of driver characteristics have never been considered sufficiently in these methods, although they are considered important factors in traffic flow analysis. In this paper, we propose a traffic simulation tool called Multi-Agent for Traffic Simulation with Vehicle Dynamics Model (MATDYMO). Road transport consultants, traffic engineers and urban traffic control center managers are expected to use MATDYMO to efficiently simulate traffic flow. MATDYMO has four sub systems: the road management system, the vehicle motion control system, the driver management system, and the integration control system. The road management system simulates traffic flow for various traffic environments (e.g., multi-lane roads, nodes, virtual lanes, and signals); the vehicle motion control system constructs the vehicle agent by using various vehicle dynamic models; the driver management system constructs the driver agent capable of having different driving styles; and lastly, the integrated control system regulates the MATDYMO as a whole and observes the agents running in the system. The vehicle motion control system and driver management system are described in the companion paper. An interrupted and uninterrupted flow model were simulated, and the simulation results were verified by comparing them with the results from a commercial software, TRANSYT-7F. The simulation result of the uninterrupted flow model showed that the driver agent displayed human-like behavior ranging from slow and careful driving to fast and aggressive driving. The simulation of the interrupted flow model was implemented as two cases. The first case analyzed traffic flow as the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the turning traffic volume changed. Second case analyzed the traffic flow as the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the road length changed. The simulation results of the interrupted flow model showed that the close relationship between traffic state change and traffic signal interval.

  • Electrical power distribution is consists of high voltage, low voltage and motor control center(MCC). Motor control centers involves turning the motor on and off, it is configured electronic over current relay to detect a motor overcurrent flows. Existing electronic over current relay detects electrical fault such as overcurrent, undercurrent, phase sequence, negative sequence current, current unbalance and earth fault. However, it is difficult to detect mechanical fault such as locked rotor, motor stator and rotor and bearing fault. In this paper, we propose a condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system for electrical and mechanical fault detection of rotating machinery. The proposed system is designed with signal input and control part, system interface part and data acquisition board for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis, it was possible to detect electrical fault and mechanical fault through measurement and control of insulation resistance, locked rotor, MC counter and bearing temperature.

  • There are several gene transfer methods available to introduce foreign DNA into animal. The most common method at present is microinjection. However, the overall efficiency of producing practical application of gene transfer technology to livestock species is production of pharmaceuticals. Rare human proteins, which cannot be produced into milk of transgenic animals. Large amount of biologically active protein may be obtained from transgenic farm animals using this system. Growth-related application to livestock species using growth hormone genes or factor genes have been disappointing. There were many undesirable side effects noted in the transgenic animals. More sophisticated on or off transgene expression are needed to control expression of transgenes in the transgenic animals. Turning positive effects while circumventing potentially harmful effects.

  • This paper proposes a new switching algorithm for an active clamp snubber to improve the efficiency of a module integrated converter system. This system uses an active clamp method for the snubber circuit for the efficiency and reliability of the system. However, the active clamp snubber circuit has the disadvantage that system efficiency is decreased by switch operating time because of heat loss in resonance between the snubber capacitor and leakage inductance. To address this, this paper proposes a new switching algorithm. The proposed algorithm is a technique to reduce power consumption by reducing the resonance of the snubber switch operation time. Also, the snubber switch is operated at zero voltage switching by turning on the snubber switch before main switch turn-off. Simulation and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed new active clamp control algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a study on the spherical lens manufacturing by simultaneous 3 axis for NC lathe. We use friction drive system for moving system in experimental diamond turing machine. The diamond turning machine use manufacturing for high quality lens, mirror and many optics products. Especially, the high tech industry require a lot of lens. For example, optical engineering. medical science, space engineering and material engineering etc. The friction drive system is very simple and quiet, compared to ball screw system. We find a problem at the simultaneous 3 axis and suggest a solution. Also, when we manufactured a micro lens. find a problem and solution.
