  • Turner syndrome (TS) is a chromosomal disorder caused by monosomy of the X chromosome, with complete or partial absence of the second sex chromosome. Anomalies of root morphology have been found to occur more often in patients with TS, which make endodontic treatment challenging and requires special handling. The patients with TS may also have systematic problems such as cardiac or renal malformations, so in treating these patients it is important for clinicians not only to be aware of the characteristic intraoral findings, but also to make the patients have regular dental check-ups to prevent oral complications in advance. An 12-year-old girl who had been diagnosed with TS at the age of 10 years was referred due to discomfort in the bilateral mandibular premolar regions. Dens evaginatus and taurodontism were detected in all the mandibular premolars characteristically. The bilateral mandibular first premolars had three roots and the bilateral mandibular second premolars had periapical lesion with two roots. Due to the complexity of the root canal anatomy, root canal treatment were completed with a dental microscope to ensure adequate visualization. After 2 years of regular follow-up examinations, there were no clinical sign or symptom associated with the teeth, and no periapical lesion, was found. This case report describes the characteristic oral features and dental management of TS patients.

  • Purpose : Turner syndrome (TS) is a disorder in which various anomalies can be accompanied, especially cardiovascular, renal, thyroid and auditory problems. The aim of this study is to identify the incidence of these disorders in patients with TS according to karyotype. Methods : We reviewed medical records of 90 patients with TS diagnosed by chromosomal analysis in 4 hospitals from Jan 1998 to Dec 2007. We evaluated these cases by prepared protocol of 4 medical problems. Results : The distribution of karyotype was 45,X (47.8%), mosaic pattern (34.4%) and structural aberration group (17.8%). Renal anomalies, cardiovascular anomalies, thyroid disorders and auditory problems are accompanied in 4.4%, 10.0 %, 11.1% and 5.6%, respectively. 45,X group had renal anomalies (7.0%), cardiovascular anomalies (18.6%), thyroid disorders (9.3%) and auditory problems (11.6%). Mosaic group had renal anomalies (3.2%), thyroid disorders (12.9%), no cardiovascular anomalies and auditory problems. Structural aberration group had cardiovascular anomalies (6.3%), thyroid disorders (12.5%) and no other 2 problems. Patients with 45,X group had a significant higher incidence of cardiovascular anomalies (P =0.025). Conclusion : Our results indicate that there are differences clinically according to karyotype of TS, especially in incidence of cardiovascular anomalies.

  • Purpose : The risk of metabolic syndrome (MS) and cardiovascular disease in Turner syndrome (TS) patients is high. We analyzed metabolic factors in adults with TS and evaluated the metabolic risk of insulin resistance. Methods : Forty-three adults with TS were enrolled. The frequency of MS and the values of the metabolic factors were analyzed. Patients were divided into insulin resistant and non-resistant groups according to values of homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). The correlations of HOMA-IR with metabolic parameters were analyzed. Results : The frequency of MS was 7% and those of each metabolic parameter were as follows: insulin resistance, 16.3%; central obesity, 15.4%; hypertriglyceridemia, 2.3%; low HDL cholesterol, 9.3%; hypertension, 36.8%. The insulin-resistant group had significantly higher values of body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), HOMA-IR, and systolic blood pressure (SBP) than the non-resistant group (P<0.05). HOMA-IR showed a significantly positive correlation with BMI, WC, FPG, and SBP and showed a negative correlation with HDL cholesterol. Conclusion : This study suggests that adults with TS have a high risk of metabolic syndrome, and insulin resistance is correlated with metabolic factors. Therefore, TS patients should have their metabolic parameters monitored regularly to minimize metabolic complications and prevent cardiovascular diseases.

  • Fairy tales are rooted in folk tales and contain human unconsciousness and universal emotions. It also plays a role as original content in various narrative transformation works. Andersen's brings numerous signification through symbolic signs of red shoes, dance, and ankle amputation. Victor W.Turner's theory of social drama broadens the perspective of narrative analysis. In addition, this theory makes us realize the conditions of the social community required by society at the time. As a circular content, Andersen's shows the double entry narrative of growth as a woman and incorporation into the social community. In this process, the social conditions accepted and rejected are symbolically revealed. In Koo Byung-mo's novel , achromatic color and red color are contrasted. The red world is full of vitality and represents the meaning of human existence. Yoon Mi-kyung's fairy tale is divided into different characters from the girl's growth narrative and the outsider's entry into the women's society. This work accuses preconceived notions and prejudices against multicultural families and strangers.

  • S. Turner has shown that a Neron symbol can be calculated from the values of K-meromorphic theta functions corresponding to divisors on K-holomorphic torus of strongly diagonal type. Using an isogeny to a K-holomorphic torus of strongly diagonal type, he constructed a Neron symbol on K-holomorphic torus of diagonal type. In this work, we provide a simple formula of the Neron symbol on the Tate curve. And then we construct the Neron symbol on K-holomorphic torus of diagonal or st rongly diagonal type without using isogenies.

  • We often use the Hausdorff dimension as a tool of measuring how complicate the fractal is. But it is usually very difficult to calculate that value. So there have been many tries to find the dimension of the given set and most of these are related to the density theorem of invariant measure. The aims of this paper are to introduce the k-irreducible subsimilar sets as a generalization of the set defined by V.Drobot and J.Turner in ([1]) and calculate their Hausdorff dimensions by using algebraic methods.

  • In contrast to conventional belief that extended inflation ends when the Universe percolates, we find inflation may continue at least many Hubble times even after the Universe percolates. What is observed is that inflation will not stop unless the global equation of state changes from inflationary one into radiation one. Thus the energy density of shorter wavelength gravitational waves induced by bubble collision at near the end of inflation should be at least Order $(10^2)\~O(10^3)$ times greater than previous estimation of Turner and Wilcek(TW).

  • To evaluate the short term air pollution dispersion model, the diffusion experiment was conducted on the flat terrain near Chuncheon. Sulfur hexafluoride $(SF_6)$ gas was used to determine the horizontal spread of plume $(\sigmay)$ for calculated by CRSTER model. Results show that CRSTER model underestimates $\sigma$y because averaging time adjustment is not applied to calculate the $\sigma$y. The scheme that can estimate the atmospheric stability more accurate than Turner method, was presented.

  • This paper reports the progress of a search for exoplanets with S-type orbits in short-period binary star systems. The selected targets have stellar orbital periods of just a few days. These systems are eclipsing binaries so that exoplanet transits, if planets exist, will be highly likely. We report the results for seven binary star systems.

  • A time fractional advection-dispersion equation is Obtained from the standard advection-dispersion equation by replacing the firstorder derivative in time by a fractional derivative in time of order ${\alpha}$(0 < ${\alpha}$ $\leq$ 1). Using variable transformation, Mellin and Laplace transforms, and properties of H-functions, we derive the complete solution of this time fractional advection-dispersion equation.
