  • An AC generator is an important component in producing an electric power and so it requires highly reliable protection relays to minimize the possibility of demage occurring under fault conditions. It is a need for research of digital generator protection system(DGPS) for the next-generation ECMS and an efficient operation of protection control system in power station. However, most of protection and control system used in power plants have been still imported as turn-key and operated in domestic. This may cause the lack of the correct understanding on the protection systems and methods, and thus have difficulties in optimal operation. In this paper, presented ratio differential relaying(RDR) is main protective element in generator protection IED. The fault detection technique, operation zone and setting value of the RDR were studied and, compared with two of the fault detection algorithm. For evaluation performance of the RDR, the data obtained from ATPDraw5.7p4 modeling was used. The proposed methods are shown to be able to rapidly identify internal fault and did not operate a miss-operation for all the external fault.

  • New direct and indirect current control methods for a fault-tolerant active power filter topology are presented in this paper. Since a three-phase four-switch topology has a phase bridge current which cannot be directly controlled, a hysteresis control method in the α-β plane which controls the three-phase current in the two-phase stationary coordinate system is proposed. The improved SVPWM algorithm is able to eliminate the operation of the trigonometric functions in the traditional algorithm by rotating the α-β coordinates and alternating the sequence of the output vectors, which in turn simplifies the algorithm and reduces the switching frequency. The selection of the DC-side reference voltage and DC-side capacitor equalization strategy are also discussed. Simulation and experiments demonstrate that the proposed control method is correct and feasible.

  • The operational characteristics of the integrated three-phase flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) were analyzed. The suggested three-phase SFCL consisted of a three-phase flux-lock reactor and three high-Tc superconducting (HTSC) elements. The former has three windings wound on an iron core, each of which has the same turn's ratio between coil 1 and coil 2. The latter are connected in series with coil 2 of each phase. The integrated three-phase flux-lock type SFCL showed the operational characteristics that the fault phase could affect the sound phase, which resulted in quenching the HTSC element in the sound phase. Through the computer simulation applying numerical analysis for its three-phase equivalent circuit, the fault current limiting characteristics of the integrated three-phase flux-lock type SFCL according to the ground fault types were compared.

  • In this paper, we investigated the quench characteristics of HTSC elements in the integrated three-phase flux-lock type SFCL according to fault types such as the single-line-to-ground fault, the double-line-to-ground fault, the line-to-line fault and the three-line-to-ground fault. The integrated three-phase flux-lock type SFCL was the upgrade version of the single-phase flux-lock type SFCL. The structure of the integrated three-phase flux-lock type SFCL consisted of three-phase flux-lock reactor wound on an iron core with the ratio of the same turn between coil 1 and coil 2 in each phase. When the SFCL is operated under the normal condition, the flux generated in the iron core is zero because the flux generated between two coils of each single phase is canceled out. Therefore, the SFCL's impedance is zero, and the SFCL has negligible influence on the power system. However, if a fault occurs in any single-phase among three phases, the flux generated in the iron core is not zero any more. The flux makes HTSC elements of all phases quench irrespective of the fault type, which reduces the current of fault phase as well as the current of sound phase. It was observed that the fault current limiting characteristics of the suggested SFCL were dependent on the quench characteristics of HTSC elements in all three phases.

  • In this paper, we investigated the quenching characteristics of a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) with connection of $2{\times}3$ matrixes. This SFCL consists of the trigger part to apply magnetic field and the current-limiting part to limit the fault current. When the fault occurs, the magnetic field generated in the reactor connected in parallel was applied to the two superconducting units of the current-limiting part to reduce of inhomogeneous critical current behavior between the superconducting units. The quenching behavior of a superconducting unit in the trigger part was affected by the increase of turn numbers. This is because of the difference of current distribution between the inductance of the reactors and the resistance generated in the superconducting units in trigger part. We confirmed that the voltage differences between two superconducting units of the current-limiting part were decreased. This is because of the improvement of inhomogeneous critical current behavior between the superconducting units according to the increase of external magnetic field.

  • Induction motors' faults detection is almost a popular topic among researchers. Monitoring the output of motors is a key factor in detecting these faults. (Short-time) Fourier, (continuous, discrete) wavelet, and extended Park vector transformations are among the methods for fault detection. One major deficiency of these methods is not being able to detect the severity of faults that carry low energy information, e.g. in ball bearing system failure, there is absolutely no way to detect the severity of fault using Fourier or wavelet transformations. In this paper, the authors have applied the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) frequency-domain analysis to detect bearing faults in an induction motor. In other words, in discrete transform which the output signal is decomposed in several steps and frequency resolution increases considerably, the frequency-band analysis is performed and it will be verified that first of all, fault sidebands become more recognizable for detection in higher levels of decomposition, and secondly, the inner race bearing faults turn out easier in these levels; and all these matter because of eliminating the not-required high energy components in lower levels of decomposing.

  • Currently almost people use a personal computer for various purpose. But some people are not familiar to computer system. If they see only black screen on the monitor when they turn on the computer power, they can not recognize whether it is hardware or software faults. So, in this paper is aimed to develop the module of computer hardware fault detecter using ROM BIOS before OS booting. This module use PCI interface with mother board of computer. Before os booting, it can get the ROM BIOS memory by interrupt and show what hardware is fault according to the predefined memory content of BIOS.

  • A down-scaled simulator is developed to simulate typical faults in induction motor such as short-turn stator winding, broken rotor bar, dynamic and static air-gap eccentricity, bearing trouble, and mechanical unbalance. The simulator is used as an initial builder to develop design algorithm for real-time faults detecting system by processing an abnormal signal and characteristics in each fault.
