시뮬레이션 프로그램을 이용한 특수유형 회전교차로의 운영 효율성 분석 (Simulated Operational Efficiency Analysis of Special Roundabouts)

  • PURPOSES : The goal of this study is to analyze the operational efficiencies of special roundabouts using simulated programs. METHODS : This study primarily focuses on comparing the delays and traffic flow disturbances occurring at special roundabouts. In this study, the operational efficiencies of 450 scenarios (5 roundabout types ${\times}$ traffic volumes ${\times}$ directional ratios ${\times}$ measures) are analyzed according to the corresponding delays and traffic flow disturbances using VISSIM and SSAM. RESULTS : The main results are as follows: 1) the Hamburger roundabouts are determined to yield the least common-type delays, 2) the amount of delays at Turbo and Flower roundabouts with respect to relatively increased right-turn-type delays, in addition to the amount of delays at the Left-turn slip-lane roundabout with respect to relatively increased left-turn-type delays, are found to be reduced as compared to the common-type delays. Lastly, common- and increased right-turn-type traffic flow disturbances at the Turbo roundabout and increased left-turn-type traffic flow disturbances at the Left-turn slip-lane roundabout are determined to be the most infrequent. CONCLUSIONS : This study comparatively analyzes five roundabout types: standard, Flower, Turbo, Hamburger, and Left-turn slip-lane. The effectiveness of roundabouts can increase according to given traffic volume, directional ratio, and measure of effectiveness.

도시부 4지 신호교차로 유턴 사고모형 개발 (Development of the U-turn Accident Model at 4-Legged Signalized Intersections in Urban Areas)

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to develop the U-turn accident model at 4-legged signalized intersections in urban areas. METHODS : In order to analyze the characteristics of the accidents which are associated with U-turn operation at 4-legged signalized intersections in urban areas and develop an U-turn accident model by regression analysis, the tests of overdispersion and zero-inflation are conducted about the dependent variables of number of accidents and EPDO (Equivalent Property Damage Only). RESULTS : As their results, the Poisson model fits best for number of accident and the ZIP (Zero Inflated Poisson) fits best for EPOD, the variables of conflict traffic, width of opposing road, traffic passing speed are adopted as independent variable for both models. The variables of number of bus berths and rate of U-turn signal time at which the U-turn is permitted are adopted as independent variable only for EPDO. CONCLUSIONS : These study results suggest that U-turn would be permitted at the intersection where the width of opposing road is wider than 11.9 meters, the passing vehicle speed is not high and U-turn operation is not hindered by the buses stopping at bus stops.

우회전 보정계수 산정기법 (The Technique of Estimating the Right-Turn Adjustment Factor)

  • 현재 우리나라의 도로용량편람은 신호교차로에서의 한 차로군의 포화유율을 산정하기 위해서는 7개의 보정요소가 적용된다. 이들 보정계수 중에서 우회전보정계수는 타보정계수에 비하여 복잡한 계산과정과 이해하기도 매우 어려운 수식의 사용을 요한다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 소정의 정밀도를 가지면서 이해하기 쉬우며 계산이 단순한 신호교차로에서의 우회전보전계수 산정기법을 제시하기 위하여 수행되었다. 본 연구의 결과 현장 자료에 기초한 우회전 포화유율 및 적색신호 동안의 우회전교통량(RTOR교통량) 추정식이 제안되었다. 우회전 포화유율은 우회전차로를 도류화와 비도류화로 양분한 다음 곡선반경과 교차도로 편도 차로수에 따라 포화유율을 추정하였다. RTOR교통량은 접근로의 차로당 직진교통량에 따른 'RTOR이 가능한 시간의 적색시간에 대한 비'를 이용하여 추정되었다. 본 연구에서의 우회전보정계수 산정기법은, 전반적인 기법은 USHCM 2000의 기법을 수용하되 '한국 도로용량편람 개선 연구'의 결과를 일부 수용하여 본 연구에서 제안된 RTOR계수와 판별식에 의해 공용 우회전차로의 실질적 우회전차로로의 전용성을 판단하고 공용 우회전차로는 다시 단차로 접근로 여부에 따라 양분하여 총 3가지 경우로 구분하여 제시되었다.

  • The thyristor turn-off model plays an important part in the design of thyristor snubber circuit. However, it is difficult to determine the thyristor turn-off characteristics. In this paper two methods to establish the simple thyristor turn-off model are proposed based on the reverse recovery characteristics given in the data sheets. Using the simple thyristor turn-off model, the optimum thyristor snubber circuit design procedures are presented considering maximum voltage spike, maximum reverse dv/dt, and turn-off loss.

Turn Penalty Algorithm for the Shortest Path Model with Fixed Charges

  • In this paper, we consider the shortest path network problem with fixed charges. A turn penalty algorithm for the shortest path problem with fixed charges or turn penalties is presented, which is using the next node comparison method. The algorithm described here is designed to determine the shortest route in the shortest path network problem including turn penalties. Additionally, the way to simplify the computation for the shortest path problem with turn penalties was pursued.

단거리 순환버스 도입을 위한 통행패턴 기반의 우선순위 결정방법 (A Prioritization Method Considering Trip Patterns to Introduce Short-turn Buses)

  • 기존 노선의 일부 구간을 운행하는 버스를 '단거리순환버스(short-turn bus)'라 하는데, 단거리순환버스 관련 연구는 버스 네트워크보다 단일 노선에 대해 최적 회차지점을 결정하였으며, 대중교통의 편의성에 큰 영향을 미치는 차내혼잡을 고려하지 않은 한계가 존재한다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 버스 네트워크의 노선별 및 구간별로 단거리순환버스 도입의 우선순위를 차내 혼잡을 반영하여 결정하는 방법론을 개발하였다. 이를 위해 교통카드 데이터 기반으로 단거리 순환버스 노선과 중복되는 기존 버스 노선들의 단거리순환버스 도입 전후의 재차인원을 산정하고, 단거리순환버스 도입 전후의 버스 네트워크 전체에서의 차내혼잡 감소 편익을 산정하였다. 또한, 단거리순환버스 도입으로 인한 운영자 및 사회적 비용을 산정하여 단거리순환버스를 도입할 노선 및 그 노선 내에서의 운행 구간을 변화시켜 반복적으로 결과를 도출하였다. 한 노선 내에서 단거리순환버스 도입의 비용/편익 비(B/C)가 가장 큰 구간을 그 노선의 단거리순환버스 도입 구간으로 채택하였다. B/C 값을 기반으로 버스 노선들의 단거리순환버스 도입 우선순위를 결정하였으며, 여러 노선에 도입할 경우의 최적 대수를 산정하였다.

5현시 신호체계 4지교차로의 좌회전 금지에 따른 효율성 분석 (Efficiency Questions of the Left-turn Prohibit in Case of 4-Leg Intersections with 5-Phase Signal System)

  • This paper deals with on the efficiency questions of the left-turn prohibit at an isolated intersection and a corridor with 5-phase signal system. Its objectives are three-fold ; (1) to analyze the efficiency of the left-turn prohibit with the use of an imaginary network, (2) to evaluate various factors under consideration in decision making on the left-turn prohibit, (3) to provide a framework for estimating and evaluating overall impacts of the left-turn prohibit in traffic network. the major findings using an imaginary network and computer packages such as MINUTP, TRANSYT-7F and STATGRAPH are followings. First, left-turn prohibit reduces cycle length by 33 seconds and delay time per vehicle by 36 seconds at an isolated intersection, and cycle length by 31 seconds and delay time per veicle by 43 seconds along a corridor. Second, total vehicle mile of travel and total travel time at an isolated intersection seem up to increase 38.85 miles(57.36km), 14.4 hour on the average, Regarding to a corridor, total vehicle mile of travel is increased by 50.14 miles(80.22km), but total travel time is decreased by129.9 hours. Third, the efficiency of left-turn prohibit are affected the following eight factors including left-turn volume(veh/hr) and ratio(%), average delay time per vehicle(sec/veh) and others. Finally, several simple and multiple regression models to evaluate the impacts on the left-turn prohibit are formulated from the above eight factors. It can be expected that these models will take an important role in decision-making of left-turn prohibit.

에너지절약을 위한 상호련결된 반보호좌회전 교차로의 신호시간설계 (Traffic Signal Timing at Interconnected and Semi-Protected-Left-Turn Intersections for Energy Saving)

  • This study was undertaken to develop a traffic signal timing method for interconnected and semi-protected-left-turn intersections(the intersections which have left-turn signal but not exclusive left-turn lanes) on four-lane streets for energy saving and to computerize the method for the practical use. For this study, a probability model which could estimate the utilized time of the shared left-turn lane by through traffic during green period was developed based on field studies. The two left-turn treatments, leading and lagging left-turns, were tested for the intersections, and it can be concluded that the leading left-turn was more efficient for the normal urban streets on which through traffic is major traffic. Adopting the leading left-turn macro-models to estimate vehicular average delay and proportions of vehicles stopped at the intersections were developed. Using the two models as well as the idling fuel consumpution rate and the excess fuel consumption per stop-go speed change, a traffic signal timing method for the intersections for energy saving was developed and computerized. The method can be used for more than four-lane streets and for other measures of effectiveness such as minimum delay, minimum stop rates, etc.

  • In the inner turn key constructions the problems of uniform types are repeatedly occurred, and, especially, many problems happen up to the stage of pre-construction(from a bid to a contract) owing to the specialties of the turn key constructions. So the claim factors of the Korean turn key constructions were abstracted in antecedent paper. When the technicians meeting the interior turn key constructions for the first time and working here now are well acquainted with only these factors, many claims will be prevented. By analysing the degree of claims by claims factors through the questionnaires to the experts about the abstracted factors and surveying the amount of the claims through the case studies, what factors exerted how much of influence on the claims was tested and analyzed. Studying and Managing the factors affecting the claims much led the technicians in charge of internal turn key constructions to the prevention and the proper solution of the site claims.

Can a Skier Make a Circular Turn without any Active Movement?

  • A skier's motion was analyzed by a simple model consist of point mass m and a single rod connected to a single ski plate. We studied the conditions for the stable ski turn as functions of the linear velocity and the radius of the turn. The solutions for the stable ski turn in our model do not require any extra skier's movement to complete a stable circular turn. The solution may then give the skier the most comfortable skiing method without any active movement to control the ski. The generalized force supporting the point mass from the ski plate was calculated. We obtained the force from the ground (rebound force) without any geometrical structure of the ski plate. Adding an active movement to the direction of the ski plate, the conditions for the stable ski turn were also analyzed. Our result gives some insight for the skier who wants to develop technique.
