The wind generally includes turbulence characteristics in nature. So the yaw errors between wind turbine direction and wind direction occur due to turbulence fluctuation. The yaw errors affect the fatigue load of wind turbine system and power reduction. The components of turbulence intensity are different from those of each site where the wind turbines are installed. We studied that the fatigue load and power efficiency are improved by controlling yaw motions. In this study, we controlled the averaged yaw error time according to site conditions by turbulence intensity.
The spectral eddy viscosity model is investigated through the large eddy simulation of the decaying and forced isotropic turbulence. It is shown that the widely accepted 'plateau and cusp' model overpredicts resolved kinetic energy due to the amplification of energy at intermediate wavenumbers. Whereas, the simple plateau model reproduces a correct energy spectrum. This result overshadows a priori tests based on the filtered DNS or experimental data. An alternative method for the validation of subgrid-scale model is discussed.

A diffuser an important equipment to change kinetic energy into pressure energy has been studied for a long time. Though experimental and theoretical researches habe been done the understanding of energy transfer and detailed mechanism of energy dissipation is unclear. As far as numerical prediction of diffuser flows are concerned various numerical studies have also been done. On the contrary many turbulence models have constraint to the applicability of diffuser-like flows with expansion and streamline curvature. In order to obtain the reliability of k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model modified combination turbulence models composed of the anisotropic k-$\varepsilon$model modified combination turbulence models composed of the anisotropic k-$\varepsilon$ model with Hanjalic-Launder's preferential normal strain and Pope's vortex stretching mechanism are proposed. The results of the present proposed models prove the fact that the coefficient of pressure and the shear stress are well predicted at the diffuser flow.
To clarify the characteristics of TKE (Turbulence Kinetic Energy) variation for offshore wind power development, several numerical experiments using WRF were carried out in three different coastal area of the Korean Peninsula. Buoyancy, mechanical and shear production term of the TKE budget are fundamental elements in the production or dissipation of turbulence. Turbulent kinetic energy of the south coast region was higher than in other sea areas due to the higher sea surface temperature and strong wind speed. In south coast region, strong wind passing through the Korea Strait is caused by channelling effect of the terrain of the Geoje Island. Although wind speed is weak in east coast, because of large difference in wind speed between the upper and lower layer, the development of mechanical turbulence tend to be predominant. Since lower sea surface temperature and smaller wind shear were detected in west coastal region, the possibility of turbulence production not so great in comparison with other regions. The understanding of the characteristics of turbulence in three different coastal region can be reduced the uncertainty of offshore wind construction.

Tidal turbulence was examined using three-dimensional tidal velocity data observed at a trench offshore of Tongyoung, Korea. The kinetic energy and intensity, including the variation period of the flow velocity and direction, were used to investigate the relationships between tidal turbulence and fishing gear dynamics, including the effects of swimming fish during fishing operations. As the resultant velocity increased from 0.2 to 0.9 m/s, the kinetic energy also significantly increased, while the turbulence intensity decreased from 50 to 10%. Tidal flow in strong flow fields displayed shorter periods of between 4 and 10 s, as determined by fast Fourier transform, the global wavelet method, and peak event analysis, and the periods were compared with the period of response to swimming fish and to oscillation of fishing gear. As mean velocity increased, velocity amplitude also increased from 0.1 to 0.6 m/s, and its directional amplitude changed markedly from 20 and $90^{\circ}$. Our study suggests that tidal turbulence can influence fish behavior or fishing gear geometry during fishing operations, although our analysis considered only a limited area. In future work, observations should be carried out over a more extensive depth and area.
This paper considered the structural mechanism of transitional boundary layer by the experimental approach. In order to measure the turbulence quantity in the boundary layer, we made a wind tunnel with 400${\times}$190${\times}$2500 mm test section and a flat plate with well fabricated leading edge. Hot wire anemometer was used for acquiring the continuous turbulence signal which is processed by special software. The results of experiment show that the region where turbulence spot is dominant moves from near wall to overall layer and thus the anisotropy of velocity fluctuation shows so large value. Also the turbulence energy originally contained in low frequency band comes up to the high frequency band. Finally the turbulence model needs minimum two length scales to consider the pre-transition region.
The wall friction correlations of oscillatory natural circulation loops are highly loop-specific, making it difficult to perform 1-D system simulations before obtaining specific experimental data. To better predict the friction characteristics, the nonlinear dynamics of a toroidal single-phase natural circulation loop were numerically investigated, and the transition effect was considered. The k-kL-ω transitional turbulence and k-ω SST turbulence models were used to compute the flow characteristics of the loop under different heating powers varying from 0.48 to 1.0 W/cm2, and the results of both models were compared with previous experiments. The mass flow rates and friction factors predicted by the k-kL-ω model showed a better agreement with the experimental data than the results of the k-ω SST model. The oscillation frequencies calculated using both models agreed well with the experimental data. The k-kL-ω transitional turbulence model provided better friction-factor predictions in oscillatory natural circulation loops because it can reproduce the temporal and spatial variation of the wall shear stress more accurately by capturing the movement of laminar, transition turbulent zones inside unstable natural circulation loops. This study shows that transition effects are a possible explanation for the highly loop-specific friction correlations observed in various oscillatory natural circulation loops.
The external conditions for estimating dynamic wind loads of wind turbines, such as the turbulence, the extreme wind, the mean velocity gradients and the flow angles, are simulated over GangWon Wind Energy Test Field placed in one of the most complex terrain in Korea. Reference meteorological data has been gathered at a height of 30m from 2003 to 2004 with a ultrasonic anemometer. The absolute value of the spectral energy are simulated and the verification of this prediction has been carried out with comparing to the experimental data. The most desirable place for constructing new wind turbine are resulted as Point 2 and Point 3 due to the lower value of Turbulence Intensity and the higher value of wind resource relatively.

The turbulence structure of e. tip vortex generated by e. fixed wing was investigated with the use of two-dimensional laser Doppler velocimetry. The velocity field, composed of circumferential end axial components, was measured on the vertical section to the vortex trail, located at 2C downstream from the wing tip in the incoming flow condition of $Re=2.24{\times}10^5$. A quasi 3-dimensional measurement technique by use of 2-dimensional LDV system was suggested for Reynolds stresses and the higher moments. The validity of this technique was confirmed with the uncertainty analysis. The budget of the turbulence kinetic energy was analyzed by those results in the radial direction of the vortex core. It is resulted that the production is to be very likely balanced with the dissipation in most range of the vortex core.

The characteristics of flow in dividing regions are precise, therefore their classification is very important not only in industry but also in hydrodynamics. By now, many studies of flow in dividing regions have been peformed, but flow characteristics that use visualization In dividing regions have not been studied. The present study of the PIV and the CFD exhibit average velocity distributions, kinetic energy distributions and total pressure distributions etc of the total flow field due to the development of the accurate visualization optical laser and of optical equipment. Also, PIV is accurate with the flows characteristics of the dividing region as continuous analysis is done using input equipment. The study analyzes velocity vector field, turbulence kinetic energy, turbulence viscosity of dividing regions with flow for visualization of the PIV and the CFD measurement in a dividing rectangular ducts.
